Wolsleben pauses regional pursuits to chase Super Nationals honors

BOONE, Iowa – Jacob Wolsleben hit pause on his pursuit of Jet Racing Central Region championship and rookie honors to run the IMCA Speedway Motor Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.  The 37-year-old hotshoe from Lexington, Neb., has embarked on the most aggressive season of his career in 2021. A regular at Dawson County Raceway, Lincoln County Raceway and Thomas County Speedway, he has two wins and another 20-plus top four finishes to his credit before the break for Boone. “I’ve never raced more than 12 or 15 times a year. We have around 40 starts this season,” Wolsleben said. “I want to make a qualifier at Boone. If I could do that it would be a success. If I could make the show it would be huge.” He’d started racing go-karts, then piloted Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and finally Northern SportMods before getting together with Jeremy Leiting and getting into the Modified. “I talked with my wife Jane and just decided to get into a Modified,” he explained. “We thought it would be cool to [Read More]

Wilson hoping to be a super hero at IMCA Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – A super hero fan hopes to be a super hero himself at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. IMCA Modified driver Tyler Wilson of Little Suamico, Wis., begins his quest for a Super Nationals crown this evening, rolling off from outside row three in the 14th heat race. His 2016 LG2 Chassis incorporates Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian on Disney Plus while his helmet displays the logo from the MCU’s Avengers.  “What I like best about Super Nationals is the non-stop racing. You don’t stop,” said Wilson, who made the trip to Boone Speedway with his father Troy. “Plus the pure competition. There are so many good drivers here.”  Wilson ran a SportMod and Hobby Stock before getting into a Modified. The track champion at Outagamie Speedway and runner-up to Benji LaCrosse at The ‘Burg Speedway, he owns two sanctioned wins this season. While Wilson will run for a berth in the Harris Auto Racing Race of Champions, he’s keeping his eyes on Super Nationals’ biggest prize. “We want to win it,” [Read More]

IMCA Super Nationals Stock Car entries at record 221

BOONE, Iowa – A record number of Stock Cars competes at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s for a third consecutive year. Wednesday’s first day of qualifying sees 221 Stocks in action at Boone Speedway, up from 207 last year and 206 in 2019. “The growth in Stock Car numbers at Super Nationals reflects the growth of the division across the country both in terms of membership and sanctioned tracks,” said IMCA President Brett Root, noting that nearly 20 states are represented in entries for The Class Too Tough To Tame. Nine hundred-plus competitors will have raced as of Wednesday. Thirty heats and two qualifying features are on today’s schedule for both Modifieds and Stock Cars, along with time trial qualifying for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational for Stock Cars and last-chance qualifiers for Hobby Stocks and Northern SportMods.

Zimmerman books it to Boone for IMCA Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – His statistics for the season now include a career-first track championship, three heat race wins and 73 starts at a dozen different tracks. What those black and white numbers can’t show is the “absolute tons of fun” Allen Zimmerman has had in each of his five IMCA Sunoco Stock Car seasons. The Central City, Neb., driver also makes his fifth trip to Boone Speedway and the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s this week. “I like the Stock Cars because they’re so competitive,” said Zimmerman, tops in points at Stuart Raceway and also a regular this season at US 30 Speedway, Boone County Raceway and Off Road Speedway. “It’s already been a busy season for me and getting to strap on my belts and race with the best is why I like coming to Super Nationals.” Zimmerman showed his speed getting to Boone County for a June race after being hailed by deputies and reminded that he still owed a fine for having out-of-date plates on his pickup. Late charge takes Ware to Hobby Stock qualifying checkers

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7) – Jeff Ware led by the width of his bumper when the 24th lap was scored in Tuesday’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s qualifying feature for Hobby Stocks. He stretched that advantage over Dan Strandberg to all of .82 of a second when the 25th and final lap was completed, earning the outside front row start in Saturday’s main event at Boone Speedway. Ware made his drive from 14th starting, cracking the top three just after midway and taking over second with six laps left. Strandberg had led from the opening green, holding onto the front spot after the restart that followed Luke Phillips’ lap nine rollover and again following the final caution on lap 19. Completing the top eight and advancing to the Saturday show were Blake Luinenburg, Cody Williams, Sal Hernandez, David Crimmins, Curt Reed and 27th starting Eric Knutson. Ware makes his sixth straight Saturday night start, Hernandez his career sixth start. Knutson and Strandberg qualified for the second time, Strandberg for the first time since 2006, and Luinenburg, Williams, Crimmins and Reed all [Read More]

Most, Carter answer challenges in Tuesday SportMod qualifiers

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7) – Josh Most gained redemption and Brayton Carter put on a clinic Tuesday night at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.  Both will start on the front row of Saturday’s Northern SportMod main event at Boone Speedway. Most, disqualified in post-race tech on Monday, led the last 18 of 25 laps in winning the first qualifying feature, holding off hard-charging Tyler Nerud, who rocketed toward the front all the way from 24th starting. Three cautions in the last six circuits kept the field close before the end of the green, white, checkered contest. Fourteenth starting Adam Birck, Andrew Pearce, brothers Colby and Alec Fett, Bo Partain and Hunter Longnecker rounded out the top eight and will line up behind Most and Nerud in the middle row on Saturday. Carter’s drive to the checkers in the second qualifier was slowed only by a trio of early cautions. Working perfectly through lapped traffic much of the way, he was chased by Eric Elliott and then Izac Mallicoat before Kyle Olson took [Read More]

Faith, fast car carry Bielenberg to IMCA Super Nationals Sport Compact crown

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 7) – A little bit of faith and a fast car made Mitch Bielenberg a first-time IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion. Bielenberg led all 25 laps of Tuesday’s main event at Boone Speedway. The victory was his second in three nights at Iowa’s Action Track, coming on the heels of his run to the Prelude checkers on Sunday, and paid $1,000. “I won the Prelude and I finally won Super Nationals,” said Bielenberg, who busted a post-race move on the roof of his ride, much to the delight of fans and photographers. “This car has been around a long time but I had faith in it. I said  a prayer before we came out and hoped the thing would hold together.” Nineteenth in the Big Show at Boone in 2017 and 18th in 2019, Bielenberg won his heat and started the main event from the front of the middle row. He was quickly out front, pulling away with Trent Reed running a distant second before Tyler Fiebelkorn came to a [Read More]

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 5) – Sunday’s huge crowd filed into Eagle Raceway filled with excitement at the opportunity to see who would be crowned the champion of the ninth annual IMCA RaceSaver Nationals.  The old saying “You buy the whole seat but will only need the edge” surely applied as the competitors ran through seven preliminary races hoping they could be one of the nine who would transfer into the final three rows of the Big Dance. Those who did make it out of the “Bs” were Clint Benson, Chase Brewer, Gene Ackland, Toby Chapman, John Ricketts, Brandon Bosma, Zach Blurton, Nate Weiler and Kyle Rasmussen. They headed to the pits to prepare their mounts along with those who had qualified on Friday and Saturday. Thirteen Sprint Cars performed the missing man formation, held to honor the 13 fallen service men and women who gave their lives in Afghanistan, touching each and everyone’s hearts.  The traditional driver introduction added even more tension as the 27 top IMCA RaceSaver drivers on the weekend [Read More]

BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 6) – What had been an elusive championship became a first-time championship Monday night for Justin Kay. Kay led all but two of 50 laps in winning the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s Late Model main event at Boone Speedway, battling Cory Dumpert in a race that was as fast and furious from the first five circuits as it was to the last five.  “A Super Nationals championship has eluded me for years. I don’t know for sure how many years we’ve been coming to Boone but I’ve finished second three times,” Kay said. “It’s so nice to finally get it. This is right up there with the national championships and the Deery Series championships. Super Nationals is the one everybody wants to win. It’s awesome to finally get it.”  The checkers were good for $3,000.  Kay drew the pole start, chased Dumpert across the stripe on laps two and three, then moved back in front for good the next time around the track.
