Webb notches win no. 523 with East Moline checkers

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (July 10, 2022) – The infectious smile in the winners’ circle told another story as Gary Webb climbed from his mount Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. The 73-year old hall of famer moved quickly from his P6 start to the front of the IMCA Sunoco Late Model pack. He cruised to the 25-lap win in front of a very appreciative crowd.  “This never gets old, but I’m getting old,” Webb said and laughed. “This was win 523 and they’re coming a lot more slowly nowadays, but this was a good run.”  The 17-time track champion was really never challenged even after an early caution. His Kryptonite Chassis showed great acceleration off the turns as he extended the advantage.  “We had great forward bite in that feature,” Webb said. “(Track Promoter Jeff Peterson) had the track nicely done. We had the engine rebuilt a couple weeks ago so we had great power and I thank the fans here for watching.”  The 523 wins have come at 65 different tracks, [Read More]

By Becca Pelkey  MINOT, N.D. (July 10, 2022) – Same story, different track. VanWyk victorious in Urbana 5 Memorial at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 10, 2022) – Dylan VanWyk won the battle in lapped traffic and then survived a late restart to top the Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The eighth annual event, held to honor the memory of five area youth who lost their lives in a traffic accident in 2015, boasted increased prize money in all divisions and was headlined by the $2,300-to-win Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Braden Richards held the early lead in the SportMod 20-lapper while Logan Anderson gave chase on the top side of the fast quarter-mile. As Anderson built a one second advantage, VanWyk was racing the low side from the sixth row. He worked his way into second just past midway, then started reeling in Anderson. Lapped traffic assisted VanWyk as he closed in on Anderson. He reeled in the leader as they battled side-by-side behind lapped traffic that ran three-wide in front of them. VanWyk [Read More]

Berry is very good in IMCA Dakota Tour opener at Jamestown

By Becca Pelkey JAMESTOWN, N.D. (July 9, 2022) – Tom Berry Jr. raced his way back to a familiar locale on opening night of the Corral Sales IMCA Dakota Classic Modified Tour Saturday at Jamestown Speedway. Hooked up and flying from the start of the 30-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Berry led every time around the oval in collecting the $2,000 checkers and his seventh Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying victory already this season. More than 50 IMCA Modified drivers traveled from across the United States and Canada to compete in the prestigious six-day tour. Drivers from 11 states and Saskatchewan made up the main event field. Former tour champion Berry, who’d previously raced out of North Dakota and already well acquainted with victory lane at Jamestown, didn’t take long to catch lapped traffic after each early restart. He was extra cautious passing each car, which allowed second place running and defending Jamestown race winner Kollin Hibdon to reel him in. A caution with two laps to go reset the field and Hibdon gave [Read More]
