North Central Region for IMCA Modifieds backed by Belleville Motorsports

BELLEVILLE, Kan. – IMCA’s North Central Region for Modifieds runs under the Belleville Motorsports banner again in 2014. The Belleville, Kan., chassis builder provides a portion of a $6,000 point fund to be paid out to top 10 drivers in regional point standings for a third consecutive season. The champion earns $2,500, with $1,250 for second, $625 for third, $325 for fourth, $300 for fifth and $200 for sixth through 10th. Drivers are required to display two BMS decals on their race car to be eligible for point fund shares. The Belleville Motorsports North Central Region includes tracks in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Saskatchewan, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Point fund shares will be presented during the national awards banquet in November, or mailed beginning the next week from the IMCA home office. Abelson aces Double Down Spring Nationals IMCA Modified feature

(April 18-19) – Chris Abelson and Karl Brewer were the big winners as Raceway Park kicked off its 2014 season with the WinnaVegas Casino Resort-sponsored South Dakota Double Down Spring Nationals. Abelson worked his way up from the seventh starting spot on Friday and flashed by Jason Schneiders to capture the $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature victory. Finishing close behind the new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier were Schneiders, Jay Noteboom, Chris Mills and Ricky Stephan. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw a last-lap pass for the win with Jason Ward sliding by Bo Lundquist. Aaron Cain topped Todd Gereau for the third finishing position. Ward leads wire to wire at Crystal opener

CRYSTAL, Mich. (April 19) – Ionia’s A.J. Ward roasted the opening night competition with a wire to wire win in the Port City Racecars IMCA Modified class Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Ward jumped to the lead and just walked away without challenge from those behind him, Rusty Ziegler, Myron DeYoung, Vern Buskirk and Jimmy Hale Jr. Two “B” mains were required to fill the feature field. Myron DeYoung took the first with Cory Rusink, Brenton DeYoung and Chris Dietrich transferring with him. The second “B” gave a lift up to the feature for Brady Hollenbeck, Kenny Playter, Austin Wonch and Tyson Minier. Minier was last year’s Flinn Stock champion and his first-ever appearance in the Modified feature proves he has a great future at CMS.

Nichols races from 20th to $750 Great Plains Series payday

HUGOTON, Kan. (April 18) – Using a high line that got faster as the laps counted down, Mike Nichols raced from last to first in winning his fourth straight Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series event. Nichols had drawn the 11th starting spot for Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour headliner at Dirtona Raceway. Just five laps into the feature he had to check up when two cars ahead of him got crossed up in the corner. Contact from another car got Nichols sideways and when the caution came out, he was restarting at the back of the 20-car field. Staying on the high side, Nichols took the lead from pole starter Nick Tubbs with four to go, bringing Perry Misner along with him. IMCA Modifieds make Montana return at Electric City’s April 25-26 Spring Roundup

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds make their return to Montana, headlining both nights of the April 25-26 Spring Roundup special at Electric City Speedway. The Friday and Saturday night features each pay $500 to win and a minimum of $75 to start. The Spring Roundup starts the 61st continuous season of operation at Great Falls, a 3/10-mile high-banked clay oval. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Electric City has been designated a border track so drivers from the Dakotas and Saskatchewan can also make the trip to earn Belleville Motorsports North Central Region points. SHAWANO, Wis. – Due to wet track conditions and forecasts calling for more precipitation and low temperatures, Shawano Speedway has postponed opening night from this Saturday, April 26 to May 3. Northern SportMod special Wednesday at Southern Iowa

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – John’s Tree Service and Carter Manufacturing sponsor the $750 to win Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod special Wednesday night, April 23. Feature distance for the third annual event will be 30 laps with a pit stop at halfway. Drivers and their crews can make any repairs or changes, but can’t touch the front tires, in the allotted time. Wednesday is also opening night for the Mach-1 Sport Compacts and both divisions will be draw/redraw. Also racing will be the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Shute scores IMCA Modified Frostbuster honors at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (April 19) – Todd Shute shot to the front and made short work of his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified foes in Saturday’s Frostbuster feature at Boone Speedway. A single caution interrupted the 25-lapper. Eventual runner-up Troy Cordes stayed close on the initial green and then again on the restart, but Shute was unchallenged most of the distance in the $1,000 to win event. The defending Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational winner, Shute made the most of the high line and had no lapped traffic to slow him down. Mark Elliott, Russ Dickerson and Jimmy Gustin completed the top five. Misner takes top IMCA Stock Car series honors at DCRP

(April 19) – Perry Misner raced from deep in the field to take the $750 winner’s share in Saturday’s 25-lap Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series feature event for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Dodge City Raceway Park. After struggling with a tight car in his heat race, the former track champion won the “B” feature and then raced from seven rows deep to take command midway through to the added money win. “I really had to work for that one,” the Garden City racer commented afterward. Indeed he did, capitalizing on a tremendous lap eight restart and then fending off strong challenges from Jason Rogers over the final rounds.
