July fendered honors go to Hoffman’s Hobby Stock

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Racing one night a week has allowed IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver Andy Hoffman to focus on a track championship.

Currently in the points hunt at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D., Hoffman has already come out on top in fan voting this season. He was named the Sybesma Graphics IMCA Facebook Fan Favorite winner for the fendered divisions for the month of July and receives a mini-hood.

Hoffman, who was leading the standings at Raceway Park entering the July 6 program, finished the night chasing new point leader Mike Hansen.

“I have planned on winning the track championship this year,” Hoffman stated. “The DNF Sunday night put us back in second in points, but we’re still right there.”

Hoffman has competed 10 nights this season, all at Raceway Park, and has earned one win and a number of top-five finishes. After a successful first half of the season, he expects to expand his travels as the season progresses.

“Park Jefferson is opening its season in July so we hope to go there,” Hoffman explained. “We’re hoping they’ll be IMCA sanctioned next season so we want to give it a shot.”

A couple special events are also on Hoffman’s schedule, including his annual trip to the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s in September and the Jackson Nationals at Jackson Speedway.

A former two-man cruiser and local roadrunner driver, Hoffman sat out for a couple years after a two-year stint in the sanctioned Stock Car division.

Now in his fifth year in a Hobby Stock, Hoffman loves his current division.

“It’s more affordable for me,” he stated. “It’s easier to set up the car and is something I’m familiar with.”

Hoffman’s crew includes Toehead, Grant, Seth, Trent Nick, Unclue Kenny, Justin and Steven, with special thanks to Jeff Girard.

Sponsors on his ride include Uncle Dave’s Neighborhood Pub, Prestige Collision Repair Center and Sheena Rae’s $$, all of Sioux City; Resurrection Taxidermy Service and Old Man River, both of Elk Point, S.D.; and Ultra-lite Performance of North Sioux City, S.D.
