Arlington IMCA Modified checkers fly for Magers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 9, 2022) – Dalton Magers found victory lane for the first time this season at Arlington Raceway Saturday night. Magers took the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified lead on the sixth lap from Rick Schroeder and stayed in front for the duration in the flag-to-flag main event. Chad Porter took second while Trent Loverude was third. Payton Harazin led the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock field until the third lap when he encountered troubles and ended up in the pits. That handed the lead to Cory Probst. Chad Volk tried diligently to gain on Probst but ran out of time and settled for second. Marschall Robinson led the first lap of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature but soon Brett McConnell was side-by-side and managed to get by him to take over the race. McConnell then had to contend with Nate Coopman as the two battled for several laps, again maneuvering around lapped traffic. Jenkins gets IMCA Modified job done at Eagle

(July 9, 2022) – Ryan Jenkins has the distinction of winning his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Eagle Raceway in front of a pair of former national champions. Saturday’s finale at America’s Home Track saw Jenkins put his number 6 out front early. Jordan Grabouski advanced to second with nine laps left and Johnny Saathoff took over third with five to go but neither could deny Jenkins the checkers. “Luckily we started outside pole tonight and were able to get it done,” Jenkins said post-race. “I didn’t really know how far ahead I was so I just tried to keep the car straight, keep getting through traffic clean and hoped to get to the checkers with no cautions. Points leaders in strong position at Off Road Speedway

(July 9, 2022) – With just five regular nights of points racing remaining in the 2022 season at Off Road Speedway, four drivers have established leads in their respective divisions, and three of those four won again Saturday night. Cory Dumpert secured his fourth IMCA Sunoco Late Models feature win of the season at the Norfolk track, needing just three laps to move up from a starting position on the outside of the fifth row to the front of the 16-car field. The three-time defending national champion promptly forged a straightaway-length lead over Joey Haase and Kyle Prauner for the next 18 laps but neither finished among the top three. Ben Sukup, who had started alongside Dumpert and spent numerous laps in a battle over fourth place with Eric Vanosdall, exchanging slide jobs seemingly at every corner, joined the leaders after passing both Vanosdall and Prauner. Funeral services are Thursday for Greg Hunter

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Funeral services for long-time IMCA Late Model driver Greg Hunter are at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Hunter, 64, died Saturday, July 9 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The 1988 and 1992 track champion at hometown Independence Motor Speedway, he was a 20-time feature winner at Indee and still ranks in the top 10 in career wins for the division there. He and his father Leonard Hunter Sr. were both inducted into the Independence Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 2018. Hunter was born on June 21, 1958, in Independence, the son of Leonard Romaine and Margaret Ellen (Coons) Hunter Sr. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1976. He and the former Jenny Lynn Rechkemmer were married on May 30, 1998 in Winthrop. They later divorced. He worked as an assemblyman for John Deere in Waterloo for many years. Webb notches win no. 523 with East Moline checkers

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (July 10, 2022) – The infectious smile in the winners’ circle told another story as Gary Webb climbed from his mount Sunday evening at East Moline Speedway. The 73-year old hall of famer moved quickly from his P6 start to the front of the IMCA Sunoco Late Model pack. He cruised to the 25-lap win in front of a very appreciative crowd. “This never gets old, but I’m getting old,” Webb said and laughed. “This was win 523 and they’re coming a lot more slowly nowadays, but this was a good run.” The 17-time track champion was really never challenged even after an early caution. (July 8, 2022) – The up and down season for Eddie Sites took another high as the Towanda driver scored his fourth victory of the season in dominating fashion as the Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil made its return to The Hill Speedway for the Billy Maynard Memorial. Sites’ latest Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory was good for $1,069. Ray McClure and Gary Lamphere completed the top three at Monroeton. Two-time tour winner Rodney Morgan started the 25-lap feature on the front row with series rookie Jason Sullivan alongside. Morgan jumped out to the initial lead with Brad Sites looking to challenge before his lap five spin brought out the first of what became back-to-back cautions. VanWyk victorious in Urbana 5 Memorial at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 10, 2022) – Dylan VanWyk won the battle in lapped traffic and then survived a late restart to top the Urbana 5 Memorial Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The eighth annual event, held to honor the memory of five area youth who lost their lives in a traffic accident in 2015, boasted increased prize money in all divisions and was headlined by the $2,300-to-win Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Braden Richards held the early lead in the SportMod 20-lapper while Logan Anderson gave chase on the top side of the fast quarter-mile. From his third row start, Anderson pressured the race leader and assumed command prior to the midway point. Devin Smith, Fett, Toppenberg win first of season at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 9, 2022) – Nick Roberts returned to victory lane when he snagged the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win Saturday evening at Boone Speedway. Devin Smith got his first local win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Alec Fett won the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Mike Smith repeated in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Jason Toppenberg got a first win in the IMCA STARS Mod Lite division. The STARS Mod Lites ran their 15-lap feature flag to flag. Early leader was Joel Huggins before Toppenberg snatched the top spot away on lap three. The two swapped the lead back and forth for several laps until Toppenberg was able to finally establish the top spot for good and then went home to take the flying checkers and the win. Roedl, Czarapata capture checkers at Outagamie

By Edward Anschutz SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 8, 2022) – Dan Roedl and Brandon Czarapata were among the IMCA winners as 127 racers checked in to do battle Friday at Outagamie Speedway. Shawn Frelich led the opening laps of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature until Marcus Yarie motored to the top spot on lap four. Yarie then paced the field until the caution flew midway through the contest. Roedl used that his advantage, pulling next to Yarie for the top spot. Roedl rode the top side to perfection, taking the lead on lap 12. Cody Schroeder got to second late in the going but no one had anything for Roedl, who picked up his first win of the season and a clean sweep to boot. Jones has fans buzzing at Bumble Bee Nationals

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 7, 2022) – Devin Jones had fans buzzing again at Kossuth County Speedway’s Bobby Thilges Memorial Bumble Bee Nationals. Jones won the Thursday night special for Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts for the third time, leading from the second lap to the $1,000 checkers. Neil Forsberg and Mark Smith led the big field of 25 Sport Compacts to the flag stand. Smith was the leader after one trip around the track before Jones took over the top spot. Jones built onto his lead after restarts on laps eight and 11. Mick Rykhus began closing the gap on the leader before another caution flag came out on lap 17. The final eight laps ran caution-free. Jade Lange made a nice run late to finish second as Tyler Fiebelkorn was third with Adam Boehme and Charles Prime rounding out the top five. Trinity Landheer-Cambell went from 23rd to 10th to pick up $300 as the hard charger.
