$2,500 is top prize at Billings’ July 19 Modified Mayhem

BILLINGS, Mont. (July 14) – Billings Motorsports Park hosts its rescheduled Modified Mayhem this Saturday, July 19, with a $2,500 top prize going to the winner of the headline event. The inaugural special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds pays a minimum of $100 to start, is sponsored by Sorenson Racing of Billings and is a qualifying event for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western or Belleville Motorsports North Central regional, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Non-qualifiers taking at least one green flag during the evening get $50 tow money. There is no entry fee; pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and over, juniors ages 12-17 and military personnel with ID, $3 for kids ages 7-11 and free for six and under. Dodge City Raceway Park Stampede pays $1,200 to IMCA Modified winner

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver winning Dodge City Raceway Park’s Saturday, July 19 Stam­pede special earns $1,200 and one of the first berths on the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The feature pays a minimum of $150 to start and IMCA Speedway Mo­tors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region, All­star Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. and racing be­gins at 7:30 p.m. There is no entry fee; pit passes are $30. Grand­stand admission is $15 for adults and free for kids 11 and under when accompanying a paying adult. Other sanctioned divisions on the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA SportMods. Werkmeister sweeps Lincoln County Stock Car features

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (July 12) – Picking up a pair of Saturday feature victories in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division at Lincoln County Raceway was Casey Werkmeister. He was joined in the winner’s circle by Zach Schultz, Kyle Bond and Charlie Blowers. On top of his game, Werkmeister swept top honors in the Stock Car features as two were run this evening. Werkmeister took the lead in the initial feature near the halfway point and never looked back. In the finale, Werkmeister droved to the lead on lap 10 from his fifth row starting position to capture the checkered flag. Schultz started on the pole and led from green to checkered in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Thornton stays hot at Canyon’s Mid-Summer Classic

(July 12) – Ricky Thornton, Jr., continues to hold the hottest of Canyon Speedway Park hands as he raced to yet another IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature victory in Saturday’s Mid-Summer Classic atop the 1/3-mile clay oval. Thornton raced from the front row outside to his ninth win in 11 CSP events thus far in 2014, taking the checkered flag ahead of Jason Noll with Brian Schultz, Steve Stultz and Chaz Baca, Jr., in the top five. Joe Wampole advanced the most positions in the main event by racing from 19th to seventh.

Atcher repeats at Marshalltown during Central Iowa Fair

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 11) – Dave Atcher raced to a second straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win Friday, during the Central Iowa Fair show at Marshalltown Speedway. Robbie Merkle led the first lap but Atcher was the story the next 17 times around the track. Donavon Smith worked his way to second while Steve Meyer, Michael Jaennette and Damon Murty rounded out a very formidable top five. Jon Snyder got the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified lead with five laps left and held off Ronn Lauritzen in the race to the checkers. Jared Van Deest led the last two circuits in the Big Eight Tyre Center IMCA Northern SportMod main Jenae Gustin got the lead on lap seven but just after taking the white flag her car shut off and Gustin spun, collecting second and third runners Clint Luellen and Ryan King. Austin Luellen won his fifth local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the season.

Carter doubles up at Southern Iowa

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 9) – Cayden Carter was a double winner Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway, following his run to the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car checkers with a visit to victory lane af­ter the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified main. Carter took the lead on lap eight and stayed in front to the Stock Car finish. He shot out to the early lead in the Modified go and never looked back in taking his first local win of the season in that division. Ryan Fullenkamp led every lap of a caution-free KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Mike Hughes won his third straight and seventh local Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling Company IMCA Hobby Stock feature while Bill Whalen Jr. lead all 10 laps in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature to take his fourth win of the season at SIS.

Lena Swamp Archery giveaways, plus $1,000 to Win IMCA Modifieds Friday at Luxemburg

The draw/redraw will be the format used. There will be a 50/50 raffle this week with half the proceeds going to Autism Awareness. Lagroon is tops at Salina’s Topless Challenge

By Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (July 4) – By his standards, Corey Lagroon was struggling coming into Friday night’s Topless Challenge at Salina Speedway. Lagroon has finished consistently near the front almost every single night. But the former IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified track champion is out to win and victory lane had avoided him all season long. Until Friday evening, that is. Lagroon took the lead away from Danny Morrison Jr. on the fifth lap and led to the finish, earning $1,000 and a spot of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Morrison and Josh Blumer led the topless field to the green flag. Morrison got the jump at the start but Lagroon made all the right moves as he got by Morrison. Besaw is best in SportMod main at Oshkosh

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 4) – Before the crowd enjoyed a huge fireworks show, Ryan Besaw en­joyed his first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature win at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Once the green appeared for good on lap five, Besaw took off and hid from the pack, and the race was for the runner-up spot with Steve Schneider was closing but ran out of laps and took second. Travis Van Straten ran strong on the inside and held off the challenges to collect his fourth Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Car feature win of the season. Rod Snellenberger took second, just a half car length back. The final 17 laps of the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified headliner stayed green and Mike Wedelstadt took over the lead on the restart and pulled away to run alone at the front to col­lect his first feature win at Oshkosh this season.

Smith scores Davenport Modified win

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 4) – Another large field of Milan Heating and Air IMCA Modifieds was on hand Friday at Davenport Speedway with another surprise winner. Rich Smith, in just his second start at Davenport this season, led all 20 laps en route to the victory. Tony Von Dresky scored a second place finish with Bruce Hanford finishing third. Doug Crampton and Mitch Morris were fourth and fifth, respectively. Justin Kay chalked up win number four in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action. Kay needed 23 laps to run down Mike Murphy Jr. and take the lead. Murphy finished second, with Andy Nezworski a distant third. Ray Guss Jr. and Ben Nading rounded out the top five. Tyler Soppe collected his second Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod win of the season. Soppe grabbed the lead after a lap five restart and never looked back.
