IMCA, RaceSaver announce $6,500 Sprint Car national point fund

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA and RaceSaver have announced a $6,500 point fund, to be paid to top 10 drivers in national Sprint Car point standings this season. The national champion earns $1,000, with $900 for second, $800 for third, $700 for fourth and $600 for fifth. Sixth through 10th place drivers each earn $500. “National point fund shares are in addition to local track and series point funds, as well as a generous number of contingency awards,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “We continue to get inquiries about sanctioning. I believe our combined efforts will lead to the largest unified Sprint Car group in the United States.” Returning to the IMCA RaceSaver fold this season are the prestigious Virginia Sprint Series, Sprint Series of Texas and Sprint Series of Minnesota, as well as weekly venues Eagle Raceway in Nebraska, Kennedale Speedway Park and Mountain Creek Speedway in Texas, Arlington Raceway in Minnesota and the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway. IMCA Modifieds join Saturday shows at Gator Motorplex; Texas venue is home track for Southern United Sprints

WILLIS, Texas – Newly-sanctioned Gator Motorplex will be both a weekly home to IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and the home track for IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars following the Southern United Sprint Series beginning this season. Opening night at the ¼-mile dirt oval is March 7. Veteran promoter Randy Waller anticipates the Modifieds will duplicate the success the Sprint Series has enjoyed during its three years with RaceSaver. “Modifieds in this area have struggled. We’ve tried this and we’ve tried that,” Waller said. “I decided we had to do something to bring them back to the area and contacted IMCA.” Gator will be part of IMCA’s Razor Chassis South Central Region for Modifieds. The Southern United Sprint Series will travel to eight different tracks in Texas and Louisiana, racing every other week. “We grew our Sprint Car class from nothing. It was popular for a while when it was carbureted 360s and then it went to zero,” said Waller. “Once I introduced the 305 RaceSaver rules and stated this is what we were [Read More]

EQ, Sweet, MSD take new places in IMCA decal program

VINTON, Iowa – Three marketing partners already very familiar to drivers in all sanctioned divisions have new roles in IMCA’s national decal program this season. EngineQuest becomes title sponsor of both Northern and Southern regions for IMCA Stock Cars. Sweet Manufacturing joins the national program for Modifieds while MSD is new for the Stock Car national program. Karl Chevrolet and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center return as title sponsor of Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod divisions; this season will be the second when drivers in both divisions are required to display Karl and SDPC decals on their race cars. There is no change from 2014 in required decals for Hobby Stocks. “We had relatively few changes in our national decal program again this year, which speaks volumes about the support our sponsors continue to give drivers in all IMCA divisions,” noted Kevin Yoder, director of marketing for the sanctioning body. “Requirements for decal placement are also very similar to last year. We will begin mailing decal packets in mid-March to drivers who have purchased 2015 licenses and [Read More]

Rose, family take reins at Grayson County Speedway

BELLS, Texas – The new promoter at the race track in Texas with the longest IMCA tenure is a former driver, a car owner and something of a history buff, too. Frank Rose and his family take charge this season at Grayson County Speedway. Both IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods are on Saturday programs beginning March 28. “The 41-year history of this track is one of the things that interested me in promoting Grayson County,” said Rose. “We want to give some new life to this track and add to that history.” Rose raced for 18 seasons in the street stock and then modified divisions. His daughter Merisa was the mini-stock champion at Bells in 2013. Grayson County became the first track in Texas to sanction its Modified division with IMCA in 1985. Southern SportMods have run at Bells since 2005. “The IMCA cars are easy to work on. As an owner and driver, I liked being able to do that,” Rose said. “As a promoter, I like the [Read More]

IMCA Modifieds return to Tri-State; Stocks, SportMods new this season at Pocola

POCOLA, Okla. – IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds make a long-awaited return this season to Oklahoma’s Tri-State Speedway. The division will be joined by IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA SportMods on Saturday shows at the Pocola venue, now owned and promoted by Carey Menasco. “I’m a fan of IMCA and when my wife Nicole and I purchased this track we converted it back to that sanction,” said Menasco, formerly the promoter at Outlaw Motorsports Park. “There’s already been a lot of interest in what we’ve been doing out here. If we can get half the people who drive by on the weekend to see what’s going on to come to the races, we’ll be doing all right.” Former IMCA national champion William Gould has lent his expertise – and turned some laps – on the 3/8-mile oval. The racing surface was shortened and 350 truckloads of clay added in the process of reconfiguring the corners and banking. “It looks like it’s going to be fast,” Menasco promised. Perris Auto Speedway sets eight race dates for IMCA Modifieds

PERRIS, Calif. – A California track with all the bells and whistles will have IMCA-sanctioned Modifieds on eight Saturday night race programs, too. Opening night for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Perris Auto Speedway is March 14. IMCA Modifieds had run on the half-mile semi-banked clay oval, located on the Lake Perris Fairgrounds, as recently as 2005. Several local drivers asked promoter Don Kazarian about bringing the sanctioned division back late in 2014. “We averaged 22 Modifieds with a high of 29 last year so car count was not an issue. You always want to get more cars and I think we’ll get 3-5 more this year,” Kazarian said. “Our rules package was already pretty close so drivers won’t have to spend a lot of money to make their cars IMCA legal.” “They will be able to race for a track championship,” he continued, “as well as IMCA national and regional points.” Perris will be part of IMCA’s Larry Shaw Racing Western Region for Modifieds. Point racing continues into September. “We really work [Read More]

Princeton and North Central Speedways to race under IMCA banner in 2015

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA will administer all six of the current divisions running at Minnesota race tracks Princeton Speedway in Princeton and North Central Speedway in Brainerd this season. IMCA will tabulate points and pay out point funds, and all classes will use IMCA procedures at regular weekly programs. “We want all of the racers at these two historic Minnesota tracks to know that they will be competing with a national sanctioning body behind them in the upcoming season,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “We are excited about working with owner Cliff Sasker and general managers K.T. Torbart and Mary Beth Cripe in 2015,” continued Root. “They have shown that they are committed to the racers and fans in the region and we are honored to play a role in their long term plans.” Princeton runs on Fridays and North Central on Saturdays.

Bloomington brings IMCA RaceSaver Sprints to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Jan. 22) – The 2015 season will be the first for IMCA and RaceSaver at a track with an already long and distinguished Sprint Car history. Bloomington Speedway features the IMCA Eagle Motor Sports RaceSaver Sprint Car division on Friday programs beginning April 17. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded through season championship night on Aug. 21. Weekly features will pay $600 to win and a minimum of $150 to start. “I like the total package of IMCA and RaceSaver,” explained third-year General Manager Kris Kirchner. “I come from the 410 (sprint car) world and know that people who want to get into that have to spend a lot of money.” “I’ve heard more and more about RaceSaver and know that a guy can get into the class, race and not be broke at the end of the day,” he added. Dan Roberts, a co-owner of the ¼-mile, high-banked clay oval located in south central Indiana, suggested track officials look into RaceSaver. “The [Read More]

No changes in IMCA procedures, points, regional boundaries for 2015

VINTON, Iowa – You’ll have to look pretty hard to find differences between 2014 and 2015 IMCA procedures. Aside from some wording in the engine claim process, there isn’t any. Both the point system and how bonus points are awarded will be the same this season as last. IMCA President Brett Root also noted there won’t be any change in regional boundaries for Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks. “We announced in December there was a possibility of realigning those borders and creating regions for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods,” he said. “After much discussion, we determined that changing the borders for Stock Car and Hobby Stocks was feasible but at this time, not necessary.” “There definitely will be regions, likely east and west, for the Northern SportMods in 2016,” Root added. “They are now our second largest division in terms of members and regions would make perfect sense.” The areas of the country represented in top national Modified standings last season dispelled any notions to make bonus point changes. “Everyone has an idea on how [Read More]
