Dailey delivers with late pass in Fairmont North Star show

FAIRMONT, Minn. (May 9) – Tenth starting Eric Dailey was first following a green, white, checkered finish to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature in Friday’s Redline Racing Parts North Star Series feature at Fairmont Raceway. After running third much of the way, Dailey had slipped into second before getting caught in a multi-car tangle on the 25th and final circuit. He went low and caught leader Josh Meyer on the final turn for the victory, his series career and division-leading fifth. Meyer, Jay Noteboom, Roger Nielsen and Tad Reutzel completed the top five. Nielsen also advanced nine positions while Reutzel was a plus seven spots. Derek Green started on the pole and led all 15 times around the track in topping the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Donnelly wins 1st, Yeager wins 15th in EQ Wild West Tour opening twinbill

DELTA, Utah (May 2-3) – A first-time winner and a regular visitor to victory lane prevailed when the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour opened at Millard County Raceway. Jake Donnelly regained the lead from Justen Yeager and took the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified checkers for his career first tour triumph on Friday. Yeager, a three-time series champion, battled Casey Delp and Randy Artz en route to the front, then captured his 15th career WWMT win ahead of Michael Hale on Saturday. Both 30-lap features paid $1,000 to win. Donnelly is new to the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while Yeager was already vote eligible. The high line took Donnelly to the front twice. Kay challenged, but not caught in Quad City’s Roberts Memorial Deery

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 4) – Justin Kay was challenged but never caught in Sunday’s Hershel Roberts Memorial Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Quad City Speedway. Kay started on the pole and led all 58 laps of the IMCA Late Model tour event, held in memory of the popular East Moline driver and car owner. Sticking to the lower line all around the oval, the tour point leader took the $3,000 checkers in front of a very full grandstand and ahead of Jeff Aikey, hard charger Joel Callahan, Mike Murphy Jr. and defending series champion Brian Harris. Jason Rauen nipped at Kay’s heels before falling back. Aikey came from 12th starting and Callahan from 17th to join Murphy and Harris in their pursuit of the leader. Restarts gave each the opportunity to challenge Kay but none could catch up after the green flag came back out. Tyler Bruening took a provisional and also advanced 14 spots, to eighth. Hollerich rumbles to first IMCA Modified win in Redline North Star Series opener at Jackson

JACKSON, Minn. (April 26) – Opening night of the third annual Redline Racing Parts North Star Series set the stage for Mat Hollerich’s IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified career-first feature win. The $800 checkers came Saturday at Jackson Speedway. Hollerich started on the pole and checked out on everybody in a 20-lap feature that ran caution-free. “I worked pretty darned hard,” said Hollerich, who steered through lapped traffic to win well ahead of Greg Jacobsen. Roger Nielsen was third, Josh Meyer fourth and Jeff Larson fifth. “I was happy just winning my heat. Then I won the feature,” said Hollerich, now in a GRT ride. “It felt awesome. Abelson aces Double Down Spring Nationals IMCA Modified feature

(April 18-19) – Chris Abelson and Karl Brewer were the big winners as Raceway Park kicked off its 2014 season with the WinnaVegas Casino Resort-sponsored South Dakota Double Down Spring Nationals. Abelson worked his way up from the seventh starting spot on Friday and flashed by Jason Schneiders to capture the $1,000 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature victory. Finishing close behind the new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier were Schneiders, Jay Noteboom, Chris Mills and Ricky Stephan. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw a last-lap pass for the win with Jason Ward sliding by Bo Lundquist. Aaron Cain topped Todd Gereau for the third finishing position. Nichols races from 20th to $750 Great Plains Series payday

HUGOTON, Kan. (April 18) – Using a high line that got faster as the laps counted down, Mike Nichols raced from last to first in winning his fourth straight Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series event. Nichols had drawn the 11th starting spot for Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour headliner at Dirtona Raceway. Just five laps into the feature he had to check up when two cars ahead of him got crossed up in the corner. Contact from another car got Nichols sideways and when the caution came out, he was restarting at the back of the 20-car field. Staying on the high side, Nichols took the lead from pole starter Nick Tubbs with four to go, bringing Perry Misner along with him. Shute scores IMCA Modified Frostbuster honors at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (April 19) – Todd Shute shot to the front and made short work of his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified foes in Saturday’s Frostbuster feature at Boone Speedway. A single caution interrupted the 25-lapper. Eventual runner-up Troy Cordes stayed close on the initial green and then again on the restart, but Shute was unchallenged most of the distance in the $1,000 to win event. The defending Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational winner, Shute made the most of the high line and had no lapped traffic to slow him down. Mark Elliott, Russ Dickerson and Jimmy Gustin completed the top five. Also winning Frostbuster features postponed from April 5 and again from April 12 were Donavon Smith in the IMA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mike Pruitt in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. (April 19) – Perry Misner raced from deep in the field to take the $750 winner’s share in Saturday’s 25-lap Dirt Track Central Jax Sports Grille Great Plains Series feature event for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Dodge City Raceway Park. After struggling with a tight car in his heat race, the former track champion won the “B” feature and then raced from seven rows deep to take command midway through to the added money win. “I really had to work for that one,” the Garden City racer commented afterward. Indeed he did, capitalizing on a tremendous lap eight restart and then fending off strong challenges from Jason Rogers over the final rounds. In what was arguably the best race of the Ice Breaker Challenge Weekend, Dylan Smith raced from 12th starting to win the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified finale, chasing down Chris Abelson for the $2,000 checkers. “That was pretty good after starting 12th. I made some good passes early and kept pushing,” said Smith, already on the ballot for September’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I’m sure glad that the Sprints widened out the track for our feature. With all of the beating and banging I decided to move up top. Neal adds to Deery Series success with fourth career win at Jackson County

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 19) – After four lead changes involving four different drivers, Terry Neal won a Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Jackson County Speedway for the fourth time Saturday night. Neal caught Andy Eckrich coming to the white flag in the 40-lapper, then held on to beat Eckrich to the checkers by not much more than inches. The IMCA Late Model tour victory was worth $3,000. Jeff Aikey, Nate Beuseling and Tommy Elston completed the top five. Neal had won the first of three straight Deery features at Maquoketa during his 2005 series championship season. Elston started from the pole and set the fast pace the first 15 circuits despite a couple early cautions that kept the field close. He gave way to Beuseling on lap 16.
