Osborn keeps Lincoln County streak alive

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 11) – The oval had many racing grooves for the competitors to challenge for supremacy at Lincoln County Raceway Saturday evening. Finding the fastest grooves to were Colton Osborn, Zach Schultz, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner as all found themselves in the winner’s circle at the end of the evening. Continuing his streak was Osborn, as he captured yet another Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory. Osborn started in the third row and took little time to become in the lead group. He passed Dave Pedersen on the 10th lap and never looked back. Pedersen ended as the runner-up and Jay Steffens was third. It was a family battle at the front of the field during the final laps of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature with Zach and Dillon Schultz going head-to-head. Withhuhn is latest first-time winner at Dodge City

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 11) – Toby Witthuhn added his name to the list of IMCA SportMod winners at Dodge City Raceway Park Saturday night. Witthuhn gunned into the lead on the opening round and leading all 15 laps to become the sixth different winner of the year and 15th different winner in the last 17 events. Witthuhn went from third to first on the opening lap and then kept Brian May and Jeff Kaup behind him the rest of the way with Kevin Tabor and Bart Baker rounding out the top five. Clay Sellard rebounded from a mid-race, one position penalty to take his first 20-lap win of the season in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Kilgore takes $1,000 win at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 11) – Shawn Kilgore took R.M. Van Pay to slide job city in the $1,000 to win Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature, the second installment of 141 Speedway’s Red, White and Blue series. Jay Matthias led the opening lap from the pole. Mike Mashl charged to the outside and grabbed the lead on the second circuit, then moved down on the track, which allowed Van Pay and Kilgore to make it to the leader’s back bumper. Van Pay stayed high on the track with Kilgore and they garnered the top two spots on lap 13. Van Pay stayed in command until the sole caution flew with five laps remaining. Kilgore worked his racer down low with Van Pay working the top shelf. With two laps remaining, Kilgore performed the perfect slide job off turn two and snatched the lead. Thrills and spills Saturday at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (June 11) – Thrills and spills may be a racing sports cliche, but the terminology describes the racing at the Off Road Speedway last Saturday night. Side-by-side racing is commonplace, and three-wide is frequent, but on several occasions during Saturday’s feature races on the ‘dry slick’ Norfolk track spectators were treated to cars aligned four-wide across the track. The result was multi-car spin-outs and, in the case of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, a rollover. Tracy Buck earned his first Off Road Speedway win in that division by taking the lead with six laps remaining and surviving two cautions, including the rollover, and then holding off Austin Brauner. Nate DeSive finished third. Chad Bruns will remain at the top of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car standings after his second feature win in the division. Eagle checkers are career first for Sarah Cronin

(June 11) – Sarah Cronin’s first Mountain Dew kick Start IMCA Sport Compact win came Saturday at Eagle Raceway. “I thought I was lapped, I couldn’t believe it when I found out I was in the lead,” she said from victory lane. “It was scary to be there! My only other top four came when I got a second my rookie year.” Trent Roth raced from seventh starting to win the NAPA IMCA SportMod feature. Damon Richards’ third Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock checkers of 2016 came from the ninth starting position. Leader Chad Fegley exited that race, which ended with a green, white, checkered, and Richards got the better of Roy Armstrong. Chad Andersen also scored Eagle win number three this season, after starting 11th. “I definitely had to work for this one. Roath tops Summer Sizzle at Canyon

(June 11) – Ryan Roath was among the headliners as a total of 105 cars packed the Canyon Speedway Park pit area for Saturday night’s fifth annual Summer Sizzle special. Roath topped the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event. He took advantage of the pole starting position to capture his first local feature win of the year ahead of sixth-starter Zack Madrid with Mike Strobl, Brian Schultz and Jeff Sheppard Jr. rounding out the top five.

Kay nips Eckrich, Huston scores first win at West Liberty

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (June 11) – Saturday night’s racing action at West Liberty Raceway included close finishes and lots of wheel to wheel racing on a smooth and extremely fast race track. The headliner of the night was the 25 lap iWireless IMCA Late Model feature. The race saw Jonathan Brauns lead several laps before mechanical issues sidelined him on lap 18. Andy Eckrich took over the point and appeared to be on his way to his first win of 2016 at West Liberty. Justin Kay closed in on Eckrich as the feature wound down and Kay was able to move inside of Eckrich as the frontrunners headed to the checkered flag. Kay led the final 100 feet and took the checkers just ahead of Eckrich. Nick Marolf came under the checkers in third. Boone checkers fly for Dickerson

BOONE, Iowa (June 11) – Russ Dickerson took charge by lap five of Saturday’s 20-lap main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and drove to his first win this season at Boone Speedway. Dickerson started eighth and was content to let the others duke it out behind him. He took the checkers by a comfortable margin. Denny Pittman held back point leader Mike Van Genderen until the final lap, when Van Genderen surged past to finish second, Pittman taking third. A close fourth went to defending track champion Jimmy Gustin, and Matthew Meinecke was fifth. The race went caution-free after an initial no start. Rookie Cody Gustoff took advantage of his pole starting position, jumping to the immediate IMCA Sunoco Stock Car lead. Craig Carlson, who had started right behind Gustoff, began pestering him and took over as leader at lap six. Wolla checks out in Dacotah feature

MANDAN, N.D. (June 10) – Jason Wolla made Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature at Dacotah Speedway a race for second place as he led all 25 times around the oval. Wolla pulled away quickly as John Corell had his hands full trying to hold off Marlyn Seidler for second. The low line was the fast line as Tracy Domagala tried to find a way around Drew Christianson for fourth. As Wolla started catching lapped traffic with 12 laps to go, Domagala passed Christianson for fourth place. While racing for sixth place, Donald Robinson got into Travis Ulmer, bringing out the caution with eight laps to go. However, Wolla pulled away once again on the restart. Point leader Seidler passed Corell for second, bringing Spencer Wilson with him. Wilson, working in the highline, passed Seidler with four laps to go. Olson checks out, then cashes $2,000 Davenport SportMod Challenge check

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 10) – After checking out, Tony Olson was $2,000 richer after winning Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge at Davenport Speedway. Olson didn’t just win, he dominated the 50-lap main event after taking the lead from Wisconsin’s Brandon Schmitt on lap 10. Even in lapped traffic, Olson held a straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Another Wisconsin racer, Jeff Steenbergen, moved up to second and held that spot for more than 30 laps before yielding to Illinois hotshoe Tony Dunker late in the race. Dunker wound up with the runner-up position with Steenbergen holding on to third. Minnesota racer Jared Boumeester was fourth while “B” qualifier Dalton Simonsen rounded out the top five. In Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action, Justin Kay chalked up another victory. He also became the first driver in the division to score two wins at Davenport this season.
