Sprint Series of Oklahoma dates set at Ardmore, Ada this weekend 

By David Smith Jr. OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – After nearly a one-month hiatus, it’s back to racing for the Sprint Se­ries of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products as a doubleheader looms this weekend for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series. It all kicks off tonight (Friday) at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore where three events have been scheduled with Mother Nature winning twice and Wichita Falls, Texas, driver Chad Koch picking up his first feature victory of the season back at the season opener on March 25. On Saturday, June 24, drivers and officials head east to Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada for the first of two scheduled appearances on the 2017 race season. After five events, Fairview, Okla.’s Jake Martens carries a 23-point lead over Koch in the point standings while defending series and national champion Andy Shouse sits just 28 points out of the lead. $1,000 checks go to IMCA Modified, Hobby winners at Clay County special 

SPENCER, Iowa – One thousand dollars is the top prize for both IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks at Clay County Fair Speedway’s June 26 Monday Night Madness special. The Modified feature is a qualifier for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods complete the card, running for $500 to win. All IMCA points, including track, will be awarded and there is no entry fee in any division. The Hobby Stock feature is the first of four Summer Speedweek events at area tracks. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15 and pit passes are $25. Shelliam sails to Dubuque Speedway victory 

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 18) – Dan Shelliam took his Rocket chassis to the top side of the smooth track and set sail from his second row start and went on to record a comfortable Out-Pace Racing Late Model feature win over Luke Merfeld and Jeremiah Hurst at Dubuque Speedway. The Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified feature was a real crowd pleaser as Jed Frieburger turned around a so-so season with a very impressive win in the 20 lap feature event. Freiburger held off Jeff Larson by less than a car length at the finish line. Mark Schulte crossed under the checkers in third. The GSI IMCA Northern SportMods saw first-time winner Jerry Miles capture the 15-lapper. Miles has shown great improvement early in the season and has established himself as a frontrunner in the very tough SportMod class. McRoberts outduels Dodge City foes 

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 16) – Randle McRoberts was first to the checkers in Friday’s IMCA Modified main event at Dodge City Raceway Park. McRoberts slipped by Travis Simmons on the 12th circuit and paced the field the rest of the way. Simmons and McRoberts had started alongside each other on the front row of the main event with Simmons getting the upper hand in the early going.  McRoberts chased Simmons for 11 laps before finally pouncing on the lead. Joel Lane followed McRoberts’ lead around Simmons and held second until the final round when Cole Traugott worked his way into the runner-up position after starting 12th. Lane claimed the show position with the father-son duo of Troy and Brendon Gemmill rounding out the top five. Troy Gemmill’s charge to fourth came from the 20th starting position.

Toland scores IMCA Late Model win at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 16) – Defending national and track champion Rob Toland dominated the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature Friday at Davenport Speedway. Toland took the lead from his son Bobby on lap four of the 25-lapper and built a sizable lead be­fore the caution flag flew with three laps remaining. Chuck Hanna got a great restart and chased Toland to the checkered flag. Matt Ryan recovered from the caution to finish third. Mike Cothron and Andy Nezworski completed the top five. Brad Montgomery scored a long-awaited win in the Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified main. Montgom­ery started on the outside pole and led all 20 laps for the win. Kay doubles up at Farley 

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 16) – Justin Kay was a double winner Friday at Farley Speedway. The Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models took the green with Nick Marolf blasting into the lead from his front row start. Marolf looked to be on cruise control as he rode the top side of extremely fast track but engine woes sidelined the leader as the race hit the midway point. Joel Callahan assumed the point only to have a spin as he worked lapped traffic force him to the rear. Justin then took over the point and went on to record the win. Tyler Bruening and Dan Shelliam completed the top three. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds provided another exciting feature. Matt Gansen took the race lead early, only to have the sixth starting Kay chase him down and make the win­ning pass on lap number 12 of the non-stop 20-lap main event. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods on June 24 card at River Cities Speedway 

  GRAND FORKS, N.D. – River Cities Speedway hosts the first-ever appearance by Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods at Grand Forks on Saturday, June 24, during the Greater Grand Forks Fair. The feature pays $300 to win. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Gates open at 4:45 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:15 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m. Fair admission of $5 is good for entry into the grandstand. Pit passes are $30. BRITT, Iowa – The winner of Hancock County Speedway’s Tuesday, June 20 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals goes home with a hefty $2,500 top prize. A minimum of $300 will be paid to start the main event and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State, but not track points will be awarded. The top two finishers from each heat advance to the $200 to win DeKalb/Asgrow Dash to determine their starting spots in the main event. Admission price rollback announced by Farley Speedway Promotions

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 15) – Officials of Farley Speedway Promotions, owner-operators of Farley Speedway and contract holders and operators of West Liberty Raceway and Dubuque Speedway, an­nounced today that several changes are being made at the popular Eastern Iowa speedways. First and foremost, the admission prices for all weekly racing events at all three tracks have been dropped to $10 for adults, $9 for seniors and students ages 13-17 will be admitted for $5. Kids under 12 accompanied by an adult will continue to be admitted free. In addition, the Farley Speedway back chute spectator area will reopen this Friday, June 16 and will continue to be open for all racing events for the remainder of the season.
