Radivoy defends CRSA territory at Orange County

By Edward Kochersberger MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (June 24) – A dramatic late-race move gave Thomas Radivoy his second CRSA IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win of the season at Orange County Fair Speedway Saturday night. The main event was shortened from 20 laps to fifteen due the threat of rain in the area and challenger Bret Jaycox knew he had to make things happen quickly because of the race length. Jaycox used the outside starting lane to work through turn one and two to take the lead away from Radivoy early and dominate a majority of the event. The move of the race was seen when Radivoy and Jaycox were rolling out of turn four toward the white flag. Jaycox drifted a little high and lost just enough momentum for Radivoy to point his car underneath Jaycox and take command of the race lead during the final lap of the evening. The win was Radivoy’s CRSA third on the season and second at Middletown. Sydney Prince and Christian Rumsey snuck by Jaycox to finish second and third, [Read More]

Lutz wins Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series thriller at Grandview

By Erika Palmai Wagner BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (June 24) – Scott Lutz earned his trip to victory lane Saturday at Grandview Speedway after being pressured by second-running Tommy Carberry the majority of the 25-lap Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series feature event. Carberry was rim-riding his way around the 1/3 mile high-banked oval and took over the lead as the field was crossing the start-finish line for the white flag. That lead was short-lived as he came into contact with the outside guardrail going down the back stretch, handing the top spot back to Lutz. “I really just drove as hard as I could,” Lutz said. “When the top started to go away for me, I thought to myself that my only shot was getting around the lap cars and getting them in between us, but that actually almost cost me the race in the final laps there.” “I know he had gotten by me but when we got to the back stretch on that final lap, I dove in front of the lap car and that’s how I [Read More]

By David Smith Jr. ADA, Okla. (June 24) – Defending champion Andy Shouse took the lead on lap two and never looked back in capturing his third victory of the season when the Sprint Series of Oklahoma visited Oklahoma Sports Park on Saturday night. Chad Koch and Chris Kelly started on the front row for the 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature and it was Koch who quickly jumped into the lead. The fourth starting Shouse quickly moved into the runner-up position and was on the leader’s rear bumper entering turns three and four. Shouse got a run underneath Koch exiting turn four to take the lead on lap two and quickly opened a half-stretch lead. The leader encountered slower traffic on lap 10 which allowed Koch to cut the deficit in half. With three laps remaining, Shouse followed a slower car for the remaining laps allowing Koch to close to three car lengths. That was as close as he got, however, as Shouse held on to score his fourth career series victory. Gary Owens [Read More]

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 25) – The Out-Pace IMCA Late Model main event was a thriller on a fast-paced night of racing Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. Dan Shelliam quickly took the lead by using the extreme high line around the track and appeared to be planning on celebrating his anniversary in victory lane, but the late race heroics by Justin Kay changed those plans. Shelliam saw his huge lead erased by a lap 17 caution. Kay and Shelliam swapped the lead on every corner the last eight circuits by using very well executed slide jobs. When the final checkered flew it was Kay holding off Shelliam to garner the win. While the leaders were battling it out, the race for third was hotly contested as well. Jeremiah Hurst was able to cross the line in third ahead of Joel Callahan and Luke Merfeld. The Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified feature was another great race which saw brother-in-laws Jed Freiburger and Mark Schulte race for the win. Rice gets IMCA RaceSaver pavement win at Shenandoah Speedway

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 24) – ‘Bullet’ Bill Rice would tell anybody who would listen he didn’t know if he could put it all together and win a pavement race. But after Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event at Shenandoah Speedway, Rice could tell about getting the lead early and then holding off all challengers for his first big IMCA RaceSaver win. Rice and Mike Keeton paced the field to green and they stayed virtually side-by-side for five laps until Rice inched ahead. The battle was on up front as Rice and Keeton were joined by Ryan Price and Jerald Harris.  The leader made sure he hit his marks and kept the car where it was happy as the cars behind were moving all over to find a way by. With one to go, Rice was still using his same line as they came to traffic. Keeton tried a low line pass around the traffic but it cost him momentum. Price got by on the outside and went after Rice in turn three [Read More]
