Lawson blisters Langley for Virginia Sprint Series victory 

By Jim Haines HAMPTON, Va. (July 1) – On a hot Saturday evening at Langley Speedway, rookie Bronzie Lawson found the way to the front of the Virginia Sprint Series field and stayed there for his first IMCA RaceSaver win. Mike Leraas and Mike Keeton paced the field to feature green and raced that way for a lap before Leraas edged away with Jerald Harris on his tail. Harris went high and into the lead, leaving Leraas to deal with Keeton as Lawson worked his way up to fourth. Harris streaked away until he misjudged lapping a car, ending both their nights against the wall. Lawson restarted third and quickly got by Keeton for second. Kansas Thunder Series opens 2017 season

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (July 2) – The Kansas Thunder Series opened its 2017 race season Sunday evening, July 2, at Rooks County Speedway. In the IMCA Modified main event, David Murray Jr. took the lead from Kaid Calhoon on lap three and drove away for the feature win. Daniel Gottschalk held off Mike Petersilie for the runner-up spot, with Tyler Sutton and Calhoon rounding out the top five. Casey Woken led all 12 laps in the caution-free IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Kyle Pfeifer was second, followed by Tanner Portenier, Robert Rutherford and Jason Davis. Dakota Sproul led all 12 laps to win the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, which finished under caution. Chapman sprints to Battle at Belleville IMCA RaceSaver win

BELLEVILLE, Kan. (July 3) – Toby Chapman used the pole starting position to his advantage as he led every lap of the Battle at Belleville Saturday at the Belleville High Banks. The $1,000 checkers came on opening night of the Summer Sizzler Tour and were the United Rebel Sprint Series career first for Chapman. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event was co-sanctioned by the Sprint Series of Nebraska. Chapman jumped out to the early lead over Blain Peterson. Tenth starting Jason Martin made a bold move on an early restart to take over second and began waging a race-long battle with Chapman. Darren Berry was pressuring Martin by lap nine. Hard-charging Ty Williams rocketed through the field and was up to fourth before contact with another car sent him pitside and brought out the final caution on lap 13. IMCA Hobby Stock Showdown set for Friday at Hancock County 

BRITT, Iowa – Hancock County Speedway hosts the $1,000 to win Friday, July 7 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Showdown. A minimum of $100 will be paid to start and all other regular weekly divisions will be on the program. The Showdown will be broadcast on IMCATV. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for stu­dents, seniors and veterans, and free for kids 12 and un­der. Pit passes are $25. Taylor becomes first Nevada driver to win Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout feature

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (June 30) – Round seven of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout saw a sixth different feature winner. Wade Taylor became the first Nevada driver to win a series event and put his name on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot as well Friday at Willamette Speedway. Taylor drew the pole and had the field covered from the start of the 35-lap main event. He took the $1,000 checkers ahead of Jesse Williamson and Bricen James. Cory Sample and John Campos rounded out the top five. Taylor is the 19th different driver to win a tour feature and the sixth different winner in series his­tory at Willamette. Hurst, Merfeld are big winners at Dubuque

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 2) – A large crowd turned out for the Sunday night racing action as the Independence Day Holiday kicked into gear with plenty of exciting wheel to wheel action. The final race of the night featured the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models and Jere­miah Hurst proved to be a man on a mission as he quickly worked to the front from his eighth start­ing position. Hurst broke out to an early lead and was well ahead of the pack when a caution on lap 17 brought the field to his rear bumper. Justin Kay was looking to repeat last week’s heroics with a late-race run to the win but Hurst proved to be up to the challenge taking a two car length win over Kay. URSS Rebels join Sprint Series of Nebraska for Battle at Belleville

BELLEVILLE, Kan. – The United Rebel Sprint Series and the Sprint Series of Nebraska will com­bine for a dual-sanctioned show at the Belleville High Banks on Monday, July 3 for the first of four races in the URSS’ Summer Sizzler Week. Williamson makes sun set on Shootout foes

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (June 28) – A three-time champion of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout got his first win of the 2017 tour Wednesday at Sunset Speedway Park. Jesse Williamson caught Collen Winebarger on the 19th lap, making up distance after Winebarger had gotten into heavy lapped traffic, then led to the $1,000 checkers. Williamson, already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot candidate, went on to the win ahead of Winebarger, Ethan Dotson, Aaron Elwess and Bricen James. The main event went non-stop and all 20 cars that started the race were still running when the checkers flew. Winebarger had started from the pole and remained in charge up front before catching up with the back of the field. Williamson maneuvered through traffic to pressure then pass Winebarger.
