Michigan’s Silver Bullet sanctions Modifieds with IMCA

OWENDALE, Mich. – The longest continuously operating dirt race track in Michigan is the latest to sanction its Modified division with IMCA. Silver Bullet Speedway at Owendale has scheduled 18 dates, 16 of them on Saturday nights, for the open-wheeled class. “I have always had it in the back of my mind that I would like to go with IMCA. Even though we’d been UMP, we’ve always had a good relationship with IMCA and the IMCA tracks in Michigan,” said promoter Matt Hoonhout, who along with his brother Nick purchased the former Owendale Speedway in 2013. “I really like what IMCA has to offer us, everything from apparel to rules to regional and national point funds.” Located in the thumb of the state some 20 minutes south of Caseville, a popular summertime tourist destination, the quarter-mile clay oval at Owendale opened in 1955 and saw the likes of A.J. Tomlinson picks up Cotton Bowl opener

Hallas PAIGE, Texas (March 10) – After scoring a Friday night win at Heart o’ Texas Speedway, Eric Tomlinson concluded a successful weekend by picking up the IMCA Modified feature win Saturday at Cotton Bowl Speedway. Tomlinson, who started mid-pack, found a line on the bottom that suited his set up and methodically worked his way to the front where Rob Slott and Jeff Hoegh had been battling for the lead. Tomlinson took control a little before halfway with Hoegh, Slott, Dalton Knox and Raymond McSpadden in the top five at the midway point. As the race wound down, Tomlinson built a lead while McSpadden was able to find the bottom to his liking, moving into the top three. At the checkers it was Tomlinson with the win. Brandon Blaylock was best of the bunch in the Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods, going wire to wire for the win. Blaylock was chased throughout the 20-lapper by Mike Wagner. Noll, Madrid motor to Canyon feature wins

(March 10) – Jason Noll kicked off the Leading Edge IMCA Modified point season with a trip to victory lane while Speedy Madrid picked up another win in the Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMod season opener Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park. After finishing 1-2 in their heat race, Chaz Baca and Noll went to work during Modified feature event action. Baca started fifth and moved to the lead early after the first few circuits were paced by former track champion Guy Norton. Noll started back in the 10th position and found his way into second around the halfway mark. Noll had no yellow flags to aid his pursuit and was forced to chase down race leader Baca. With two laps to go, Noll set up Baca coming off turn four to dive to the inside of the leader in turn one. IMCA Stocks, Hobbies are new at Millard County

DELTA, Utah – Millard County Raceway adds two more IMCA divisions to Friday and Saturday race programs in 2018. Both the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks are new this season and join sanctioned Modifieds and SportMods on May 4-5, June 15-16, Aug. 3-4 and 24-25, and Sept. 21-22 cards. “When I was named the new promoter here in January, I said I wanted to go IMCA across the board,” explained Russell Wolfe. “It’s one way we can get drivers from other states racing here for IMCA national and regional points.” “IMCA’s rules are right there in black and white,” he continued. “If there’s a question about them, you’ve always got somebody you can call at any time to get an answer. 34 Raceway kicks off new ownership with annual car show

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – 34 Raceway will kick off the 2018 season with new owner Brad Stevens and his co-promoter Jessi Mynatt at the annual 34 Raceway Car Show on Sunday, March 18. This year’s show will be held at Deery Brothers in West Burlington from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and will take place rain or shine. More than 20 race cars and drivers from a variety of classes will be on hand to sign autographs and take photos with fans. There will be kids’ activities, food and beverage for purchase, and don’t forget to grab your 2018 schedule. Grayson County adds IMCA Stock Cars to Saturday programs

BELLS, Texas (March 9) – IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars return to weekly race programs at the longest IMCA-sanctioned track in Texas this season. The full-bodied class joins IMCA Modifieds and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods on Saturday nights at Grayson County Speedway. “We had the I-Stocks here for one race last season and the fans loved them. We made the announcement late last year that we would sanction the division this year,” said promoter Mark Weiss. “What I personally like best about the class is that they keep the competition fair. No one has an advantage other than skill set. New promoter has high expectations for Maquoketa Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – There are high expectations this season at Maquoketa Speedway, where Nick McCrady takes over as promoter. The ¼-mile dirt oval opens on April 14 with Saturday night programs featuring five IMCA divisions scheduled through Aug. 25. “I see something here that has potential. I want to see how I can make this track even better for drivers and fans,” McCrady said. “We’re going to work very hard at building our weekly car counts and we’re very excited about having the Deery Brothers Summer Series here on May 5.” IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Late Models, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are back on regular race programs at Maquoketa while IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are newly-sanctioned. IMCA RaceSaver Sprints are new at Marysville

MARYSVILLE, Calif. – IMCA’s fastest growing division has a new home in Sprint Car Country. Eight RaceSaver Sprint Car dates are on the schedule this season at Marysville Raceway, which becomes the first California venue to crown a track champion in the division since 1999. “Northern California is a Sprint Car area but like everywhere else in the United States, the cost has escalated so much that most weekend racers can’t afford it,” promoter Dennis Gage said. “We thought it was time to introduce the RaceSaver cars here.” Marysville has a local sprint class, which utilizes a crate engine, and Gage is optimistic that drivers in that class as well as those who have not raced in recent seasons because of costs will find that RaceSaver fits their budget. Sprint Series of Oklahoma opens at Ardmore

By David Smith Jr. ARDMORE, Okla. – Sprint Series of Oklahoma drivers and officials are gearing up for a double-header weekend at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore this Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers from across Oklahoma and north Texas have expressed their intentions on competing in one or both events that kick off the 2018 race season for the SSO. Friday’s feature will pay $700 to win while Saturday’s main event pays $750 to win. Both events are complete shows with no automatic transfers from Friday to Saturday; both nights pay a minimum of $250 to start the feature. Friday night grandstand admission prices are $15 for adults and $10 for kids ages 6-12. All pit passes are $30. Ricketts stars in IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Smackdown

KILGORE, Texas – John Ricketts was the winner when a pair of former national champions battled it out Saturday at Lone Star Speedway. Ricketts caught up with Chad Wilson 17 circuits into the 25-lap Smackdown main event for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, then worked lapped traffic en route to the $1,200 checkers. “With the people in front of me, I didn’t think I had a shot at winning but we had luck on our side,” said Ricketts, who had started seventh. “It’s not every day you can pass Chad in clean air. Usually when he gets up front, he’s gone.” Wilson, IMCA’s 2015 national champion, was running second when the lead car and a lapped car tangled and restarted at the front.
