Thornton doubles up at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 26) – Ricky Thornton Jr. bested both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Tony Hofbauer took the lead in the Modified main and kept hold of it until Joel Rust ran him down at halfway. Rust was looking strong but soon had Tim Ward and then Thornton bearing down on him. Thornton slipped into second and set his sights on the leader. He then made a slide job work with four laps left in the contest to nab the lead. Thornton sailed home to the win, Rust took second and Ward was third. Jarred Daggett led the Stock Car troops in the opening laps only to have Jeff Mueller dig his way to the lead on the bottom at lap three. Drueke soars in Sprint Series of Nebraska at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (April 25) – Two drivers who definitely know the fast way around Eagle Raceway squared off in a Precise Racing Sprint Series of Nebraska tilt. Tyler Drueke got the better of Joey Danley in the Thursday night main event, which ran caution-free and was contested to the checkers. Rounding out the top five were Josh Riggins, Cody Ledger and two-time series champion Adam Gullion Riggins, Gullion, Neil Nickolite and Keith Dragoo led the field on lap one; Drueke vaulted past Nickolite and Dragoo on lap three, moved to second with 17 to go and snagged the lead six laps later. Ledger moved into fourth with nine laps remaining. Danley passed Ledger two laps later, advanced to third with four to go and took the second spot on the next circuit, ultimately coming up just one position short of the checkers. Feature results – 1. Havens takes last-lap thriller at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (April 24) – Kody Havens’ patience set up the late-race heroics that ended with his Wednesday night Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victory at Stuart Speedway. Havens joined Brayton Carter in working toward the front and was up to third with two laps left. He made a move past Carter, and with the white flag out he set up a move going into turn three under Tyler Inman for the win. The two cars made contact, but Havens was able to gather it up and made it back to the line first to take the victory. Josh Gilman was the IMCA Modified winner and Buck Schafroth led the last five laps in taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Corey Madden prevailed in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main while Denny Berghan Jr. returned to victory lane following the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature.

Spring Fling this weekend at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE Grove, Ore. – Despite the wetness of the months of March and April it finally looks as if Cottage Grove Speedway will finally get the first race of 2019 completed this weekend. The famed ¼-mile clay oval kicks things off on Friday, April 26, and Saturday, April 27 with the Spring Fling. Both nights will have the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods in attendance. Saturday will also have a special intermission activity with an Easter Egg Hunt taking place. Pit gates open at 1 p.m. both days. The front gate opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Racing is scheduled to get kicked off around 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

Park Jefferson cancels South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals

JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 25) – A strong, unexpected Thursday morning rainstorm coupled with rain forecast for Friday evening has forced the cancellation of the South Dakota Sprint Car Nationals. Park Jefferson Speedway track officials made the call this morning after reviewing the track conditions and the forecast. “With drivers coming from great distances, we felt that we had to make the call early enough for the race teams. In addition, the forecast for Friday evening has been getting worse with every new forecast and it looked nearly impossible to race Saturday even if we got the Friday portion in,” said track owner Adam Adamson. Fans will receive a complete refund for their advance tickets and drivers will receive a complete refund on their registration fees back to the credit card that the fees were charged to in six to 10 days. Ventura victory to Dylan Thornton

VENTURA, Calif. (April 20) – Saturday’s 20 lap IMCA Modified main event was fast and furious with Dylan Thornton leading all 20 laps to take his first Ventura Raceway win. Following Thornton to the line were 2018 track champion Trevor Fitz-Gibbon and Terry Hershberger.

Ward captures opening checkers at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. (April 20) – After picking up a couple IMCA Modified feature wins during his racing vacation to Florida, A.J. Ward returned to a more familiar setting to continue pursuit of a fourth straight Dirt Works Eastern Region title. Ward topped Saturday’s opening night feature at Crystal Motor Speedway ahead of ninth starting Mitchell Hunt and Brenten DeYoung. Matt Szecsodi scored hard charger honors after qualifying out of his “B” feature, starting 18th and ending in sixth.

Turner turns in first IMCA Stock Car win

By Rick Staley BETHANY, Mo. (April 20) – C.J. Turner picked up his first-ever IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory Saturday at Bethany Speedway. Turner set a blistering pace, getting out front early and showing the rest of the field the fast way around with heat winners Conner and Carson Masoner trying to run him down to no avail. Corey Piffer took his turn challenging Turner but faded in the closing laps. Turner was not be denied and proved the Jamesport Mafia is alive and well as he picked up his first Stock Car feature win. Conner Masoner passed Piffer and younger brother Carson for second place with a late-race charge. Carson Masoner battled Piffer to the line and claimed third. Cory Wray was the IMCA Modified winner and Garrett Nelson topped the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main.

Denning speeds to Maquoketa checkers

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, IA (April 20) – He glanced low and high. Travis Denning prefers the low groove at Maquoketa Speedway, but he made an exception Saturday evening. Denning pulled the number one pill on the redraw and launched to a flag to flag, 20-lap QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified victory. “I saw those guys coming and I usually don’t like to run high,” Denning said in victory lane. “But it worked when I had to use it and was great.” Brad Moring sped from the second spot and stayed there. Top runners Bryce Garnhart, Jeff Larson and Ray Cox, Jr. came next. “Any one of these guys can win here,” Denning added. “This is a great deal on a Saturday night – great competition.” Denning took home $700 on the night before Easter. IMCA Modifieds, Northern SportMods featured at Placerville Speedway’s Donnie Tilford Tribute

PLACERVILLE, Calif. – Both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are on the Saturday card at Placerville Speedway’s annual Donnie Tilford Tribute. The April 27 Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, paying $1,500 to win, $800 for second, $600 for third, $450 for fourth, $375 for fifth and a minimum of $75 to start. Northern SportMods race for $500 to win and a minimum of $50 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and E3 Spark Plugs State points will be awarded in both divisions; Modifieds also earn Larry Shaw Race Cars Western region points.
