Long tow to Lee County pays off for Mullen

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 19) – Mike Mullen made the long tow from Wisconsin pay off by winning Friday’s IMCA Modified main event at Lee County Speedway. Chad Giberson and Dakota Simmons led the field to green in the 20-lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature, with Simmons grabbing the initial lead on John Oliver Jr. and Dennis LaVeine. Oliver used the momentum off the top to grab the top spot on lap five. Mullen made it a three-car battle for the lead then on lap eight passed Oliver Jr. to take away the top spot. The one and only caution of the race appeared on the next lap. On the restart, Mullen jumped back out front with Michael Long and Oliver close behind. Long tried to keep pace over the final half of the race but Mullen was able to hold on to score his first-ever win at Donnellson. Ward rewarded with opening night win at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 19) – Tim Ward saw his efforts rewarded with the opening night IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Troy Cordes led the troops when lap one was scored, with Jimmy Gustin hot on his tail and Ward closing the gap quickly as well. Ward made his way into the lead at lap six, kept it and pulled away in the closing laps to take the comfortable win. Gustin followed from a distance in second, and Cayden Carter came from starting 10th to score third place honors. Steve Meyer got the lead back from Jeff Mueller, then held off Ricky Thornton Jr. for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature went to Shannon Anderson, who knows victory lane very well at Marshalltown and beyond. Anderson started eighth and snatched the lead on lap six from Mike Kincaid. Sprint foes at Hagerstown can’t keep up with Jones

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (April 20) – Jonathon Jones wasn’t sure he would make the trip to Hagerstown Speedway until Saturday morning, but he sure made it worthwhile by topping the field of 23 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars for the win that evening. Christian Rumsey challenged but ran out of laps and settled for second in the main event, co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highland Sprint Series. Tyler Denochick and Jones paced the feature field to green. Jones stayed up high and that would be the magic line as he kept his car smooth and fast with Rumsey quickly challenging for second. Rumsey lost that spot to Drew Ritchey for a few laps before regaining the position and set off after Jones. Denochick and Ryan Lynn had a long-term battle for fourth as most other positions continued to change throughout the field. IMCA Modifieds on lidlifter at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Cottage Grove Speedway gets the new race season started on Saturday, April 20 with and has a special Easter Eggstavaganza (featuring over 2,000 eggs and an appearance by the Easter Bunny at intermission) planned during the night. IMCA Modifieds are on the evening card. Pit gates open at 1 p.m., the front gate opens at 3:30 p.m., time trials are at 5:30 p.m. and racing is scheduled to kick off at approximately 6 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, seniors, juniors and military are $10, youth ages 6-12 are $5 and children five and under are free. A family pass (two adults and up to four youth) sells for $35. VIP skybox seating is $25 and pit passes are $30.

Saturday opener for Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. – Crystal Motor Speedway starts the 2019 season this Saturday, April 20. IMCA Modifieds return to the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission for adults is $12 and $5 for kids ages 5-11, and pit passes are $30. Waterman lands Lee County Speedway opening night win

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 12) – Jeff Waterman began his pursuit of another Lee County Speedway track title with the opening night IMCA Modified feature victory. Friday’s 20-lap Budweiser IMCA Modified main saw Dennis LaVeine and Dakota Simmons draw the front row. LaVeine took advantage of his spot to jump out into the lead over Andrew Schroeder and Simmons. Schroeder looked under LaVeine over the next five laps, before the first caution of the race appeared. On the restart, LaVeine jumped back out front with Waterman, who started ninth, coming from fifth to second. While LaVeine worked the bottom of the track, Waterman used the top to try and wrestle the lead away. Coming off turn four on lap nine, Waterman used his momentum off the top to edge LaVeine at the line to take over the top spot. Duke prevails at Path Valley for third straight PASS win

SPRING RUN, Pa. (April 13) – Ken Duke Jr. preserved his 2019 Pennsylvania Sprint Series winning streak Saturday night, winning the 20-lap feature race at Path Valley Speedway more than four tenth’s of a second over Doug Dodson. The Selinsgrove racer has now captured all three IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car features run so far, but this was hardly an easy win. With 21 of the 22 sprinters on hand making the call for the feature, traffic was an incessant issue on the wide Path Valley quarter mile. Mike Alleman grabbed the early lead but just as the leaders were moving into heavy traffic, a lap seven caution bunched the field. On the restart, Duke, who had moved from sixth starting position into third, shot to the front. The longest green-flag run of the night followed a lap nine restart and Duke made it through traffic well enough to keep his challengers at bay. Dubuque Deery date rescheduled for April 28

DUBUQUE, Iowa (April 15) – The new date for the Deery Brothers Summer Series show at Dubuque Speedway is Sunday, April 28. Postponed from April 14, the main event for touring IMCA Late Models pays $2,500 to win and a minimum of $300 to start and headlines the Hershel Roberts/Ray Guss Sr. Memorial program originally scheduled last Saturday at Maquoketa Speedway. The April 13 show lost to low temperatures will not be rescheduled. Also running at Dubuque will be IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for national, regional, state and track points, along with a local 4-cylinder class. Seidler, Swenson, Black new to All-Star ballot

VINTON, Iowa – Three more IMCA Modified drivers have raced their way onto the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Marlyn Seidler was the feature winner at Batesville Motor Speedway’s Arkansas Spring Nationals and Chris Swenson took the checkers at I-37 Speedway’s Dirt Kings event. Crawford County Speedway opens with April 19, 20 Spring Fling

DENISON, Iowa – Five IMCA divisions race both nights at Crawford County Speedway’s season-opening April 19 and 20 Spring Fling. Friday and Saturday main events for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars pay $850 to win while IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $500 to win. Top prize both nights for the Mach-1 Sport Compacts is $200. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and E3 Spark Plugs State points, but no track points will be awarded at each program. Practice starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 18 and a complimentary meal is included with the purchase of a pit pass. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow Friday.
