Roberts is latest IMCA Modified winner at Lee County

By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 23) – Dennis Woodworth picked up the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature win Friday, in a fast-paced and caution-free contest on opening night at Lee County Speedway. Woodworth and Tommy Elston led the field to green. Woodworth used his front row draw to his advantage by grabbing the lead on lap one over Elston and Dustin Griffin. While Woodworth set a torrid pace out front, Elston, Griffin, Mark Burgtorf and Nick Marolf waged a great battle for the runner-up spot.  Without a caution to bunch the field up, Woodworth cruised to an easy win. Griffin won the battle for second, Burgtorf was third, Marolf fourth and Elston came home in fifth. The 18-lap IMCA Modified feature saw Levi Smith and Chad Giberson draw the front row. By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 5, 2023) – His last-lap momentum made the difference for Austen Becerra in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Lee County Speedway. Bill Roberts Jr. moved to the outside of the front row after Levi Smith was unable to answer the call and took advantage to grab the initial lead over Jadin Fuller and Dennis LaVeine. Three early yellows slowed action but once back to green Roberts, Mark Burgtorf and Becerra put on the early candidate for race of the year as the three raced two- and even three-wide at times for the top spot, with Roberts holding them off at the line to be scored the leader. Coming to the white flag, Becerra went to the bottom to show Roberts his nose. Going into turn three to get the checkered, Roberts came off the top to block Becerra, only to have Becerra use the momentum off the top of four to grab the checkered flag. DONNELLSON, Iowa ­– IMCA Sunoco Late Models and IMCA Modifieds both race for $1,000 to win in their next Drive For Five qualifier this Friday at Lee County Speedway. The June 25 feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for the Modifieds. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are also on the card. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and over, $5 for students ages 11-17 and veterans, and free for kids 10 and under.
