First $250 Sunoco bonus of season paid Saturday to IMCA Late Model winner at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The payday got even better for the winner of Saturday’s opening night main event for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at Independence Motor Speedway. The first $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus of the season will be paid to the May 23 Late Model winner at Indee, on top of a possible $800 check. Sunoco bonuses will be presented at Late Model sanctioned tracks this year. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the 2020 racing season. IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track. While the grandstand will be closed, fans will have the opportunity to watch the night’s racing action by logging on to IMCA.tv or affiliate DoneRight.tv. The live streaming service will carry a one-time charge and will not require a membership to watch from the comfort of your living room. Hot laps are scheduled to take to the track at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

Late night call seals the deal for URSS opener at Salina

By David Smith, Jr., OKTidbits SALINA, Kan. – It has been a bustling 24 hours for Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing president Rick Salem. After thinking the upcoming Memorial Weekend of racing would not happen after the event at Oberlin Speedway was canceled, a late-night phone call from Salina Speedway owner Tommie Hendrickson and Chris Sutton wanting to bring in IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars for a Memorial Weekend special, both parties came to terms and the series will open the 2020 race season at the speedway this coming Saturday, May 23. Originally a $700 to-win event, contributions and support from Missouri’s Mike Sosebee, Steve Hilker of Hilker Trucking and Austin McLean Motorsports now has this event paying $1,000 to-win and $200 to start. Dover tops podium in opener for Sprint Series of Nebraska

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 17) – His third trip to The New Raceway Park ended with Jack Dover on the top step of the podium. After third- and second-place finishes in his first two visits to the Jefferson speedplant, Dover topped the Sprint Series of Nebraska opener on Sunday night. “We’ve had really good results every time we’ve run there,” Dover said following the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory. “It’s a pretty fun little track. I wish I could race there more often.” The threat of rain disappeared before features were run. Dover started eighth, avoided getting caught up in any of the early cautions that slowed the 20-lapper and wasn’t challenged once he got to the front. “It was a really good track come feature time,” he said. “I picked off a car about every lap, got the lead on about lap six and never looked back.” Second went to Danny Nekolite and defending series champion Tyler Drueke was third. Hofbauer nabs first IMCA Stock Car win on opening night at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 16) – The fans were missing at the Boone Speedway on Saturday for the opening night of the 2020 racing season, but the drivers got down to business. Due to the regulations by the state of Iowa during the Covid-19 pandemic, no spectators were allowed in the grandstands, but drivers were eager to begin their racing season and get back to some sense of normalcy during this unprecedented time. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars were up for a 20-lap feature event. Tony Hofbauer and Jeff Larson started on the front row and entered into a battle at the drop of the green. Larson jumped to the lead and then the two swapped the top spot for several laps until Hofbauer was able to establish it for good on lap 11. From then on, he pulled away and took the checkers, securing his first-ever IMCA Stock Car victory. Park Jefferson’s Memorial Duels boast $1,000 top prize for IMCA Modifieds

JEFFERSON, S.D. – Park Jefferson is the place to be for the fourth annual Memorial Duels this Saturday, May 23. The Duel sees the first Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier of the year at Park Jefferson Speedway for IMCA Modifieds. Paying $1,000 to win and $150 to start, the best of Siouxland’s IMCA Modifieds will be on hand. Joining them for their first IMCA points event are the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Drivers are asked to register at Park Jefferson International Speedway on MyRacePass. Practice session planned Sunday at Boyd

BOYD, Texas – Pit gates open at noon and a practice session for all divisions starts at 2 p.m. this Sunday, May 24. The Texas Sprint Series headlines the first night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season on Friday, May 29. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts round out the card. Gates to the pits open at 5 p.m. and racing starts at 8:30 p.m. The grandstand will be open, social distancing will be in effect and masks are recommended. Pit passes are $35. Racing canceled at US 36 Raceway for May 15

OSBORN, Mo. – Due to overnight rains, US 36 Raceway officials have canceled racing for May 15. US 36 Raceway officials do not want the track to break up and after last week feel it is in the best interest of our racers and teams to cancel today’s race. This upcoming week, US 36 Raceway is bringing in a crew and equipment to help completely rework the racetrack to improve the racing surface before the next event. Ruter takes over as promoter at home track Hancock County Speedway

BRITT, Iowa – Ryan Ruter begins his promotional career this season at the same track he started racing. Ruter takes charge at home track Hancock County Speedway in Britt, where IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will run on Friday nights beginning May 22. “I’ve always wanted to promote and the opportunity came up this year,” said the long-time IMCA Modified driver and owner of Side Biter Chassis. “I know what the fans want. DENISON, Iowa – Five IMCA divisions see action under the Friday night lights when Crawford County Speedway hosts its opening night event of 2020. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts run at Denison on May 15, chasing IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, state and track points. Drivers in all divisions are asked to register ahead of time through the link on the track Facebook page. A maximum of 10 people can accompany each race car and pit passes will be purchased at the pit gate; driver sign-in will be completed at the score tower. Social distancing will be followed and it’s recommended that participants wear masks or other appropriate facial covering. No grandstand seating will be sold.
