Perfect score paves way for Dumpert in IMCA Sunoco Late Model title chase

YORK, Neb. – Cory Dumpert sought and achieved IMCA Sunoco Late Model perfection in 2020. Dumpert raced to a second straight national championship, and his first outright, collecting three track titles and the KMJ Performance Nebraska State crown as well. His 21 feature wins, in just 32 starts, were the most by an IMCA Late Model driver since Justin Kay’s division record 24 checkers in 2014. “Our goal this year was to go out, get it done and leave no doubt. Berry is lights out in drive to IMCA Modified national crown

DES MOINES, Iowa – Tom Berry Jr. saw it as a sign from above when the lights went dark at Marshalltown Speedway. Qualified but in the trailer with more damage than he had time to fix, Berry got a reprieve when the electricity went out before that evening’s IMCA features could be run. Knowing his father must be looking down and smiling, Berry came back to town two weeks later, finishing second in the make-up race and winning the scheduled event. That Friday night provided a foundation for Berry’s drive to the IMCA Modified national championship. Next newsletter goes to print on Dec. 9

VINTON, Iowa – Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting quarantine, a single issue of the Inside IMCA newsletter will be published for November and December. That issue will include 2020 champions and rookies of the year feature stories and 2021 divisional rules. All will be posted on the IMCA website before the combined newsletter is printed and mailed on Dec. 9. “Health issues of our staff took priority and resulted in this decision,” explained IMCA President Brett Root. “We anticipate that divisional rules will be posted on the website beginning this week.” “Newsletter deadlines are extremely tight and when we realized there was no possible way to meet our November deadline, we were forced to adjust our print schedule in a way that makes immediate sense and also satisfies our December demands,” he explained. “Consolidating the two months into one publication accomplishes that.” The newsletter will resume regular publication in January of 2021.

Thornton completes Desert Thunder Nationals sweep

(Nov. 22) – Ricky Thornton, Jr., finished off a sweep of Central Arizona Speedway’s seventh annual Desert Thunder Nationals, thundering to victory lane in Sunday afternoon’s 25-lap IMCA Modified feature event atop the 3/8-mile clay oval. Thornton, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, had topped $1,000 to win features on Friday and Saturday leading up to Sunday’s $3,000 checkers and denying brother Jeremy the win in the process. Pandemic brings ‘pause’ to 48th RPM Reno Western Workshop

RENO, Nev. – The 48th annual RPM Reno Western Workshops set to take place at the Eldorado Resort Casino in Reno, Nevada, Dec. 3 and 4 have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On Sunday afternoon, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak implemented regulations in the state, placing Nevada under “Pause,” further restricting the opportunity to host any events. Gov. Sisolak stated that “No large gatherings will be approved during the pause and if a larger event was approved to have taken place in the next three weeks they must be canceled.” In the upcoming weeks, RPM will present virtual workshop sessions online looking ahead to the 2021 season. The dates for the 2021 version of the RPM Reno Western Workshops have been announced along with the event moving to the Silver Legacy part of the “The Row” in Reno. The dates will be Dec. 1-3, 2021. Charities will be big winners at IMCA Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – They won’t appear in victory lane but a host of charities will be winners at the upcoming Duel In The Desert. IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod drivers competing at the Nov. 9-14 Duel, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, with best appearing charity wraps or paint schemes, square off in minimum $1,000 to win features on Saturday night. The Duel promotional is focusing its energy on helping promote the more than 30 local, state and national charities to be represented on the track in Las Vegas, raising awareness before sharing personal driver stories before drivers dictate the results on the track to end the 23rd annual event. Richards puts car on display to benefit Lincoln Food Bank before going Dueling

The young Lincoln speedster will have his Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod, with a new Lincoln Food Bank wrap, on display at four locations before the car goes west for the Nov. 9-14 Duel at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. $3,500 is top IMCA Modified check at Heart O’ Texas Fall Classic

WACO, Texas – Both a check for $3,500 and a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot go to the IMCA Modified feature winner at Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Fall Classic special Oct. 22-24. The runner-up earns $2,000 with $1,000 for third. Saturday’s main event pays a minimum of $300 to start. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods both race for $1,500 to win, $750 for second, $500 for third and a minimum of $100 to start. Hobscheidt drives old ride to IMCA Modified checkers at Antioch’s Bill Bowers Memorial

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Oct. 2-3) – Jacob Hobscheidt was feeling a twinge of seller’s remorse Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. Behind the wheel of the 2017 GRT he’d sold to Sean Wilson two years ago, the Plattsmouth, Neb., driver led all but two laps of the inaugural Bill Bowers main event for IMCA Modifieds in racing to a career-best $5,000 payday. “I would gladly take that car back now,” said the new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. “I didn’t expect to win but everything worked out pretty good for us.” Hobscheidt had started from the pole and led the first 29 times around the track. IMCA Stock Car, SportMod aluminum 4412SA carburetor requirements

VINTON, Iowa (Oct. 1) – Holley’s first production run of new aluminum 4412SA carburetor main bodies have some issues that will affect some IMCA racers. Holley recalled and recovered all first production runs of this carburetor with the exception of one carburetor builder. Holley’s Circle Track Manager Graham Fordyce said, “There was an issue with the original castings that we released to carburetor modifiers (did not fit the sanction gages) so the tooling has been revised. The L6R3250B aluminum castings should NOT be allowed for use in competition.” Effective immediately this original release of casting number L6R3250B aluminum 4412 carburetor will not be allowed in IMCA competition. This product can be identified by the casting number behind the choke horn. Also effective immediately, any driver competing at an IMCA sanctioned event with this product will be disqualified. Any attempt at removing the casting number will result in disqualification as well. This product does not meet carburetor gauges used by IMCA inspectors.
