Great forecast for Batesville’s Race for Hope 71

BATESVILLE, Ark. – A race track promoter by profession, Mooney Starr is also a pretty good meteorologist. “The weather forecast is looking great for all four days and that’s another plus,” Starr said, ahead of opening night of the $50,000 to win Race for Hope 71 for IMCA Modifieds Sept. 22-25 at his Batesville Motor Speedway. “We’ve got a lot of cars coming from a lot of states, and a lot of fans coming to see who wins all that money.” Early entries for the fifth annual special were in hand from across the United States and Canada. Reed is good at The Grove for first PASS win

(Sept. 18) – On a bad night for a number of other drivers, Austin Reed tamed a difficult Williams Grove Speedway track surface and collected his first win with Pennsylvania Sprint Series in Friday’s Jack Gunn Memorial program. Reed returned to racing with the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars late last season and has been competitive this season. He drew the pole for Friday’s 20-lap feature following a fourth place heat finish, and after two disastrous attempts to start the race, took the early lead on the third effort and held off a determined Devin Adams to lead all the way for the victory. Adams made several attempts to take the lead and drew even with Reed coming out of turn two on lap 16, but Reed pulled away on the backstretch and held on for the win. Williams dominates United Rebel Sprints at 81 Speedway

PARK CITY, Kan. (Sept. 18) – Sixteen cars attended Saturday’s event at 81 Speedway in Park City with the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing. The night saw Oklahoma native Ty Williams with a dominating performance over the field from the drop of the green to the checkered. Williams also captured the dash win ahead of Jordan Knight, placing them on the front row for the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature event. Williams quickly hurried off the race lead ahead of Knight and Luke Cranston. On lap three, Jeff Stasa advanced to fourth ahead of Jeremy Huish and Texas’ Marcus Thomas. Huish and Thomas both reclaimed their position on lap five. With 11 laps complete, the second-running Knight slipped back to fourth behind Cranston and Huish. Just one circuit later, Thomas moved into position ahead Knight to claim fourth. Lap 15 saw Thomas move into third ahead of Huish as Stasa reclaimed fifth. Kay takes East Moline Salute to Gary Webb cash

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (Sept. 19) – The smile lit up the cockpit of the no. 15K and then in front of the large crowd at East Moline Speedway. Justin Kay found one track he had not won at in 2021 and picked a great night, leading all 56 laps of the Salute to Gary Webb IMCA Sunoco Late Model special Sunday evening. “It’s pretty cool. It seems like we win a lot of the races that are salutes. I’ve raced a lot of laps with Gary so I hope to keep this going,” he said. The race on the tight quarter-mile oval was only slowed three times by caution in the first 10 laps. The last 46 circuits were all under the green flag. “I’m a little winded. Zemo makes mark at East Moline STARS Mod Lite special

As he rocketed around the top groove of East Moline Speedway, Mike Zemo, Jr. knew the work he and his crew put into the Sidewinder Chassis all year paid off. The Davenport, Iowa ace passed early leader Randy Bryan, Ames, Iowa, early and zipped to the IMCA STARS Mod Lite 25-lap special win and took home $1,000. It was also win number eight at EMS against increased competition on this night. “I was a little worried,” Zemo said in the winner’s circle. “I just knew the outside would be pretty good for me. I just hit my marks. It was really treacherous up there so hoping my experience would work.” The race was slowed just once by caution. R.J. Kay defends Lee County Drive For 5 finale title

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (Sept. 11) – The Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For 5 finale for IMCA Sunoco Late Models took place Sept. 11 at Lee County Speedway. This is the second year for this mini-series to be held, with defending race winner Justin Kay claiming the checkered flag in the 50-lap feature. Kay and Darin Duffy earned front row starts. Kay took advantage of his starting spot and jumped out into the early lead over Duffy and Matt Ryan. While Kay paced the field out front, Duffy, Ryan and Tommy Elston, who started fifth, battled for the runner-up spot. Action was slowed on lap nine for back-to-back cautions. The second restart saw Kay back out front with Elston overtaking Duffy for second. Two more quick cautions followed, with Kay staying in the lead and Duffy getting second back from Elston. 2021 IMCA point season ends on Sunday, Sept. 26

VINTON, Iowa – The 2021 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season will end on Sunday, Sept. 26. Final points races will be held that day for sanctioned Modifieds, Late Models, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, STARS Mod Lites, Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods, Southern SportMods and Sport Compacts. Bonus points will be figured and national and regional champions and rookies of the year, as well as the Junior National Champion and Lady Eagle winner, announced as soon as possible. Local track officials have until noon Central Standard Time on Monday, Oct. 25 to notify IMCA of corrections that affect their top 15 point standings before 2021 standings become official. Saltzman beats odds in race to Shelby County IMCA Late Model crown

OMAHA, Neb. – A driver who beat the odds just to race raced to the IMCA Sunoco Late Model track title at Shelby County Speedway. Brandon Saltzman, first diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer in the summer of 2019, earned that title in dramatic fashion on the Harlan, Iowa, speedplant’s championship night Aug. 21. “My aim this season was to get a track championship,” said Saltzman, 23 years old and from Omaha. “It feels amazing … it hasn’t clicked yet but I know I’m in the history book. I’m still having a hard time grasping the fact that I’m a track champion.” He’d started the championship night show 11th and drove to fifth before the caution light came on with three laps left. Rotors glowing, Saltzman went to the pits, returned to start at the back of the field and ran the rest of the way with no rear brakes, ending in 10th. Night one of Yankee Dirt Track Classic falls to rain

FARLEY, Iowa – Friday’s opening night Yankee Dirt Track Classic show at 300 Raceway has been rained out. Saturday, Sept. 4, will be run as a one-day show. IMCA Modifieds race for $5,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both for $1,500. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, and KMJ Performance State points will be awarded.
