Early entry deadline nears for IMCA Duel In The Desert

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Drivers in four IMCA divisions have until 11:59 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) to pre-enter for the biggest event of the 2021 season in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region.

The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts the 24th annual Duel In The Desert Nov. 8-13. IMCA Modifieds race for $10,000 to win their Saturday night main event on the half-mile oval while IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both run for $5,000 top checks.

IMCA STARS Mod Lites make their Duel debut in a $1,500 to win main event.

Entry fees paid online at racexr.com or through the lvms.com website before midnight are $150 for Modifieds, $75 for both Stock Cars and Northern SportMods, and $50 for STARS Mod Lites.

Entry fees paid at the track are $200 for Modifieds, $150 for Stock Cars and for Northern SportMods, and $100 for Mod Lites.

Early arrivals in Las Vegas can park beginning at noon on Monday. Nov. 8. Grandstands open at 2 p.m. that afternoon and an open practice runs from 6-10 p.m.

All IMCA competitors will run heats and qualifying features Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 9-11, with feature winners locking into the main event but having the option to race throughout week to continue accumulating points and improving their starting position.

Qualifying features will be paid out each night and available at the pit shack after the races. Last-chance qualifying and features for the STARS Mod Lites and Northern SportMods are on Friday, and on Saturday for Modifieds and Stock Cars.

The Modified winner becomes eligible to qualify for the 2022 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational while the Stock Car winner earns a starting spot on the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational grid.

The grandstand opens at 2 p.m. and racing starts at 5 p.m. Pacific Time each day.

RACEceivers and Westhold Transponders will be required in all four divisions.

Information about pit passes and pit stalls, as well as ATV/UTV passes and spectator admission is available on the websites listed above.

Thornton, Egbert win opening night Duel qualifiers

By Steven Young  LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Nov. 11) – Ricky Thornton Jr. and P.J. Egbert punched their tickets Wednesday night for the 23rd annual Duel In The Desert IMCA Modified main event, winning their respective 22-lap qualifying features.  In the first qualifier at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, Thornton and William Gould led the field to the green. Thornton set a blistering pace early, leading by over a full second at the completion of the opening round. Tanner Black moved up to the second spot on the second circuit, then began to close in on Thornton for the top spot. The lead duo maintained the same distance through 10 completed laps, as they approached the rear of the field. Entries top 300 for 21st annual Duel as Hughes, Sachau get LVMS Dirt Track wins

(Nov. 10) – Entries numbered more than 300 and Jason Hughes backed up his opening night qualifying feature victory by winning Saturday’s IMCA Modified Duel in the De­sert main event and taking home a $7,777 check. More than 20 states were represented at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track and drivers from 13 of them qualified for the Modified main event while a record 97 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods took the green. Hughes had earned the Modified pole by virtue of his Thursday victory and started the 40-lap main event with Friday’s qualifying feature winner, Ricky Thornton Jr. to his outside. At the drop of the green, Hughes powered to the lead and brought third-place starter Ricky Alvarado with him. Duel In The Desert boasts great competition, Las Vegas location

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Entertainment Capital of the World welcomes IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods to town for the Duel In The Desert.  Modifieds race for $7,777 to win, Northern SportMods for a top prize of $1,777 at the 22nd annual Duel Nov. 13-16 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. “The Duel continues to be one of our biggest events, with more than 300 drivers from 20-plus states and Canada at last year’s event,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “Both the level of competition and the entertainment away from the track are tough to beat.” The Saturday night Modified feature is a 2020 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier.
