Building on breakout season, Clark makes plans to see more of EQ Southern Region

JOSHUA, Texas (March 17, 2022) – After a breakout season in 2021, Blake Clark plans to see a lot more of the EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region this year. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car driver from Joshua, Texas, now the two-time defending track champion at Boyd Raceway, opened the new campaign at Abilene Speedway’s IMCA.TV Ice Breaker and in the Sniper Speed Lone Star Tour. His first feature win of 2022 came on March 12 at Kennedale Speedway Park. “We’re in a new Terminator this year and we’re still learning the car,” said Clark, who impressed while leading the first 11 laps despite missing on his setup in the Lone Star feature at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. “It felt really good to get the win at Kennedale. We’re starting to get a feel for the car. We’re definitely going in the right direction with it.” Now a senior at Godley High School, Clark was a 14-time winner last year, with half of those victories coming in his final 13 starts.  Those checkers, and another seven top-five [Read More]

IMCA Northern SportMods return to Quincy’s Adams County Speedway

QUINCY, Ill. (March 16, 2022) – The green flag waves again this spring at Adams County Speedway, where IMCA Northern SportMods join Sunday night race programs. Jim Lieurance, a long-time employee at the former Quincy Raceway, took over as promoter last October and has been hard at work since getting the 1/3-mile clay oval race ready as time and the weather permitted.  “I’d watched races here as a kid and worked here since 1979. I started selling fuel, then did tech and did staging,” he said. “My family considers this our home track and it will be family run. My wife, two daughters and three of our grandchildren will work here.” While work on the racing surface continues, a new electronic scoring system and improvements to fencing will be completed before opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season on April 10. Power lines in the pit area will also be moved underground where they won’t be a potential hazard to tall haulers.  Northern SportMods last ran at Quincy in 2019. Their [Read More]

The Avoca, Iowa, driver found out his IMCA Northern SportMod would be blue, too Foster and girlfriend Whitney Anderson are expecting in early July. Whitney knew in February that the baby would be a boy and contacted Justin Webb and Clint Winey at Blue Space Creative in Denison about a blue wrap Keith Knop kept the car at his shop in Shelby, then delivered it to the Avoca Countryview Golf Course for the March 12 unveiling. “I would have put all my life’s savings down it was a girl. Never in my mind did I envision a boy,” said Foster, who’d been positive he’d be racing a pink car on Saturday nights at Shelby County Speedway this season. “I was so surprised. My mind was blown. Everything went perfect.”  One hundred or so family members and friends attended the March 12 reveal. While his first and middle names have yet to [Read More]

Hogge, Ryland top opening night features at Ocean

By Don Martin II WATSONVILLE, Calif. (March 11, 2022) – Bobby Hogge IV opened the 63rd season of racing at Ocean Speedway with a dominant IMCA Modified feature win Friday night. Hogge led the restart ahead of reigning KMJ Performance State champion Jim Pettit II and four-time and defending track champion Cody Burke. Burke took second from Pettit on the fourth lap and Pettit fell back to fifth on lap six as Matthew Hagio settled into third.  Hogge held a half-lap lead over Burke by the 11th circuit. Burke fell out on lap 12 as Hagio was now second ahead of Anthony Copeland. Pettit slipped past Copeland for third on lap 18 but was a lap down as Hogge won ahead of Hagio and Pettit. DeCarlo, Ryland open season with wins at Antioch

By Don Martin II ANTIOCH, Calif. (March 12, 2022) – Nick DeCarlo scored the win in the 25-lap IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Antioch Speedway. This was the first race of the 62nd championship season at the track, and it was DeCarlo’s first win in two years. Kellen Chadwick jumped into the lead at the start with DeCarlo not far behind in second. The leaders caught heavy traffic on lap 15 and DeCarlo made an inside pass on the backstretch on lap 16 to grab the lead.  Bobby Hogge IV made a high pass in turn two on Lap 17 to take the lead from DeCarlo, but DeCarlo came back strong with an outside pass in turn four to regain command. During the final circuits, Hogge kept it close but DeCarlo prevailed for the well-earned victory. Five-time champion Troy Foulger ended up third ahead of Chadwick and Pettit Reigning champion Fred Ryland won the IMCA Northern SportMod feature. Nebraska’s Drueke wins first career OCRS Sprint feature

By John Rittenoure MEEKER, Okla. (March 5, 2022) – Tyler Drueke traveled a long ways to race his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car on Saturday. But the trip was worth it.  The Eagle, Neb., resident took the lead with 10 laps remaining and went on to win his first career AmeriFlex Oil Capital Racing Series feature during the second day of the Spring Nationals at Red Dirt Raceway.  After a restart on lap 18, Drueke saw his chance to pass Blake Edwards and Sheldon Barksdale for the lead and never looked back.  “I just went around on the outside,” Drueke said of his pass of the two for the lead.  It was heartbreak for Barksdale who started on the pole and led from the opening lap. Edwards and Rees Moran gave chase and the trio stayed 1-2-3 ‘til the yellow waved on lap 18. Edwards shot around Barksdale for the lead on lap 20 then quickly gave way to Drueke on lap 21. Barksdale fell to fourth.   “I was leading those laps and was trying to [Read More]

Shebester wins OCRS season opener

By John Rittenoure MEEKER, Okla. (March 4, 2022) – Steven Shebester led start to finish in Friday’s AmeriFlex Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car season opener at Red Dirt Raceway, but the 25-lap distance was more grueling then Shebester expected.   “It was getting a little tough toward the end,” Shebester said about going the distance on opening day of the Red Dirt Raceway Spring Nationals. “Being the first race of the season, I got a little wore out. I need to get back into race shape.”  Part of the problem stemmed a fast tacky track that made for a very competitive field.   “The track was good,” Shebester said. “I came up on lapped traffic about 15 laps in and they were fast. Everyone was fast. It was good everywhere. You could move around a little bit. On top you could get that momentum going and just rip it.” The race almost went green to checkered until the yellow waved with about seven laps remaining for a turn four spin.  “I hated to see that [Read More]

IMCA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks return to NY’s Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park

VIRGIL, N.Y. – Two IMCA divisions return to Saturday shows at Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park this season, under the direction of new promoter Brad Smith.  The 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks runs from April 30 to Aug. 27 on the 3/8-mile clay oval in south central New York. “Running under the IMCA banner has a lot of advantages, starting with the rules and the insurance benefits that come with membership,” explained Smith, who has a track title and 17 feature wins in his IMCA Modified career. “Then there are the different championships and contingency awards drivers can run for that are not available from other sanctions.” Reaction from drivers to the new sanction announcement has been 100 percent positive.  “The Modified guys are happy to have another track to race at for regional points. This is a good class and they enjoy the perks, like being able to race twice a week, that come with it,” Smith said. “Hobby Stocks are a class that’s [Read More]
