Hunter Bloom wins Ralph Bloom Memorial at Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 16, 2022) – Saturday was Christmas In July Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. It also was the Ralph Bloom Memorial for the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, one of the biggest nights of the whole year for the division.

When all the dust had settled, Hunter Bloom parked his mount in victory lane and won his first race of the season. The victory also kept the trophy in the Bloom family name. 

Points beat Matt Sanders for second. Justin Ryker posted a fourth-place result over fifth-finishing Daniel Ray. 

For the third time in the year, Paul Rea emerged victorious in Friesen Performance IMCA Modified competition. The Eugene native collected his first win since April 23. Jake Mayden got second while in third was Curtis Towns in the Frank Brewer-fielded car. Steven Sturdevant ended his night fourth while Hornbrook, Calif., traveler Duane Orsburn completed the top five.

Young is latest IMCA Modified winner at Cottage Grove

By Stephanie Deatherage  COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 18) – The first of two straight nights of action at Cottage Grove Speedway kicked off with IMCA Modifieds on the Friday card.  Paul Rea pounced to the lead on the opening start. The Eugene veteran inhabited the position until lap three, when Derick Young made his way into first place. Young received some pressure just after the halfway mark.  Jeffrey Hudson got around Derick Young on lap 14.  Young kept his composure however and regained the coveted top spot on the 16th circuit. He remained there the balance of the distance to earn the victory.  It is Young’s first win at Cottage Grove since April 27 of 2019.  He is the sixth winner in nine shows and the newest name on the win chart in KMJ Performance Oregon State and Shaw Race Cars Western Region competition.  Curtis Towns and Aaron Sheelar were second and third, respectively.  Bricen James got fourth followed by Matthew Drager in fifth.

Spring Fling checkers fly for James

(April 23) – Cottage Grove Speedway was in action for the Spring Fling doubleheader weekend and while wet weather washed away the Saturday program, Bricen James topped the IMCA Modified main event on Friday .  Paul Rea set the pace in the first few laps.  The Eugene veteran was at the point of the pack until lap three when Jeffrey Hudson got around him.  Hudson, from the central Oregon town of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, stayed there for the majority of the race.  Hudson was overtaken late, on lap 18, by Albany’s Bricen James.  James had to deal with a couple of stoppages which meant he had to deal with a handful of restarts.  Bricen mastered each of them and the seventh starting driver went on to win his first race of the 2021 campaign. Late race heroics lift Dotson to CGS Wild West Shootout checkers

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 26) – Ethan Dotson rolled the dice and came up a $1,000 Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout winner Tuesday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Four-time and defending tour champion Jesse Williamson quickly got to the front at the start of the main event and looked to make it two straight wins at the famed quarter-mile oval. Williamson set a rapid pace and seemed to be the class of the field before an extremely long green flag run brought lapped traffic into the mix. Danny Lauer reeled in Williamson and looked to challenge, but couldn’t quite get underneath the leader. A lap 33 caution regrouped the field one last time. On the restart, Williamson went to the bottom to keep Lauer in check.  Dotson, however, gambled on the high side.
