Former rivals now Mr. and Mrs. are IMCA winners in Nebraska Dirt Crown at Deshler

WYMORE, Neb. (April 12, 2022) – Dillon and Kaylee Richards started as rivals. Now they’re each other’s biggest fans, on and off the track.  The husband and wife race team from Wymore both made trips to victory lane during the Nebraska’s Dirt Crown event at Thayer County Speedway, Kaylee in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts and Dillon in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. It was the third time since they became a couple when both have won features on the same night, and the first time since they got married last November. Dillon was in staging for Kaylee’s race and had enough of a view of the front stretch to see her take the checkers at the end of a flag-to-flag run; Kaylee was still in the infield post-race tech area at Deshler and stood on the trunk of her car to watch Dillon get the best of Jet Racing co-worker Nick Ronnebaum in a back-and-forth battle.  “I was super happy when Kaylee won. I want to see her drive hard every night,” Dillon said. “And [Read More]

Iverson crowned IMCA Stock Car king at Off Road special

By Anthony Ainslie NORFOLK, Neb. (April 9, 2022) – With big money on the line, Tyler Iverson stood his ground late in the race to score the $2,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win Saturday at Off Road Speedway. A stout field of 48 cars contended in the Crown Summer Series event. Ryan Harris led early in the 30-lapper before spinning in front of the field. That incident handed the lead to Iverson, who was constantly pressured by Jesse Sobbing. Sobbing got major runs off the top of turn two but could not get a big enough charge to get around Iverson and settled for second while Chanse Hollatz hustled to third after starting 15th. The biggest mover of the race was Minnesota driver Jeff Larson, who started dead last in the 24th position and charged all the way to ninth.  Iverson’s career seventh win in the division made him eligible to qualify for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. The series is presented by Herbster Angus Farms. The first-ever IMCA Modified feature at [Read More]

Green to checkers for Green at I-37

By J.M. Hallas  PLEASANTON, Texas (April 9, 2022) – After a scheduled week off, it was time for round two of the I-37 Speedway point season and Rick Green raced to his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season in flag-to-flag fashion. As green waved on the 20-lap main it was Green with a big run into turn one. Four cautions slowed the first half of the contest but the last half was run under green with Jared Maupin looking middle-up on Green in turns one and two and then the bottom in turns three and four. Greg Dinsmore closed in on Maupin looking low as Maupin tried high. This gave Doyon the chance to reel Dinsmore in for the closing laps. Up front it was the former track champion, Green inching ahead by a couple car lengths to score the victory. “They let me take the green flag tonight,” joked Green. “I actually drove it in a little too hard and saw him (Maupin) get beside me. The car finally bit and once [Read More]

Baca regroups, races to Eggstravaganza checkers

SOMERTON, Ariz. (April 9, 2022) – Saturday’s IMCA Modified main event at the Cocopah Speedway Easter Eggstravaganza got exciting when Chaz Baca didn’t want it to. After catching Ryan Roath for the lead and working his way through lapped traffic, the two-time defending Shaw Race Cars Western Region and track champion nearly lost the handle with eight circuits remaining in the $1,000 to win feature. “It was definitely a get your heart rate going thing,” Baca said after the near disaster. “Luckily we were able to regroup the last few laps and finish it off.” The checkers were the sixth of the season for Baca, already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible. Russell Allen was the runner-up and Roath ended in third.  Bo Partain topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature in front of Baca and Jake Nelson. Shelby Alves also notched win number six of the year in the IMCA Northern SportMods, chased across the stripe by Miles Morris and Ty Weidner. D.J. Werkmeister paced the Mach-1 Sport Compacts with ninth starting Jaxon Sanchez [Read More]

By John Rittenoure  ADA, Okla. (April 9, 2022) – After a couple nights of costly engine failures Terry Easum was more than ready to see things turn around. I think we got it turned around now.” The tough luck started last month at Lawton.  “We broke a motor,” Easum said. “The block started leaking. Just a freak deal. But Greg Meyers got it fixed up for us.” “At Thunderbird it would not run and we had an issue there. It has been one thing after another,” he continued. “Hopefully this is the turning point for the year.” When the green flag dropped on the main event, Zach Chappell chased Easum for the first lap before giving way to Whit [Read More]

Penfold makes good on youthful vow to own, promote Oregon’s Willamette Speedway

LEBANON, Ore. (April 7, 2022) – As a 12-year-old, Cory Penfold made the bold statement that he’d someday own and promote Willamette Speedway.  Thirty-six years later, he does. Penfold and wife Sandy have purchased the big 1/3-mile clay oval at Lebanon from Jerry Schram and Jimmy Schram. They’ll be in charge of Saturday night programs that feature four IMCA divisions starting with opening night on April 16.  “I believe that hands down, this is the best facility on the West Coast,” said Penfold. “I grew up here and started saying when I was 12 years old, when it was still owned by Clair and Evelyn Arnold, that I was going to own it.” “I have two passions in life – racing and football. When I became owner of this track, I compared it to when a college player hears his name called in the NFL draft,” he continued. “We did a lot of work to get here. When your dream comes true, it’s an amazing feeling.”  IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts [Read More]

Ford finishes first at Marysville

By Ben Deatherage MARYSVILLE, Calif. (April 2, 2022) – IMCA Northern SportMods were back on track at Marysville Raceway and Yuba City speedster Jimmy Ford made his way to victory lane following the Saturday night 20-lapper. Shaun Merritt captured the top spot when the green flag dropped. The race saw eight total stoppages taking place and five in the first five laps. Merritt was heavily challenged by Scott Savell on several restarts, going as far as taking the lead only for the pass to be negated due to yellow flags.   After Merritt spun on a restart, Savell inherited the lead on lap five. Savell himself, unfortunately, would get sideways on a lap 12 restart, relinquishing first place to Ford, piloting the Scott Kaams-owned entry, who then had to hold off a quick Damian Merritt.   Ford kept Merritt in check to pick up the victory while Shaun Merritt recovered to third. Hunter Merritt placed fourth over Savell.
