Wilson repeats Mod Lites of Arkansas checkers at Mississippi’s Greenville oval

GREENVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 13, 2022) – Blake Wilson started on the pole and held off challenges from Bryce Vowan and Cameron Wagner in winning Saturday’s main event, when the Mod Lites of Arkansas made their sole IMCA STARS stop this season in Mississippi.  Wilson took the lead on the opening lap beside Kevin Simkins and begin navigating the trick and tacky gumbo surface that Greenville is known for. Vowan came under challenges from Wagner and Gage Raines while chasing Wilson.  As the leaders came upon lapped traffic and with both cars running different lines, Vowan made a pass for the lead, pulling up beside Wilson before a caution.  After the ensuing restart, Wilson had clear track to work with and despite having some close calls running the fast groove along the wall, went on to take his eighth win of the season. “Greenville is a driver’s track. It’s tricky and challenging, being one of the fastest quarter mile tracks around. It just so happens the fastest way around is next to the wall. That groove [Read More]

Berry is best in Bald Tire Bash at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2022) – Sure, the $2,000 was nice, but Tom Berry Jr. had extra motivation Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Berry, who already earned qualifying eligibility for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational in his IMCA Modified, was looking to do the same in his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car for the B&B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational. He did just that during the Bald Tire Bash, which required drivers to use tires with a tread depth of no more than 5/32”. Leah Wroten led throughout the early stages of the 25-lapper while Dallon Murty and Kaden Reynolds gave chase. Wroten’s pursuers became the pursued when they made their way around her and into a battle for the lead while Berry worked from a row five start. Murty maintained the point when caution slowed action with 19 laps complete. Berry, who restarted in the second row, kept pace with Murty when racing resumed and positioned himself to steal the lead in turn four on the ensuing lap. Berry completed the slide job and then [Read More]

Fast car, help from above take Williams to Elting Memorial win

DESHLER, Neb. (Aug. 7, 2022) – He might simply have had the fastest car. Or maybe Jed Williams was just spot on when he credited help from high above in winning Sunday’s Remington Elting Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Thayer County Speedway. The victory, Williams’ first of the season and first at Deshler since April of 2016, came in the third annual event held in memory of his life-long friend and in a field mde up of more than its fair share of former IMCA national and IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champions. “I pulled onto the track thinking this race was 30 laps and that’s a long ways to keep all those guys behind me,” said Williams, who started from the pole after finishing second to one of those former national champs, Jordan Grabouski, in his heat. “Winning this race meant more than $5,000 to me. It’s unreal that I could pull this off with this stout of a field.”  “I could hear the crowd cheering for me. I [Read More]

Zevenbergen makes it look E-Z after late restart at Sibley County Shootout

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 3, 2022) – Opportunity knocked and Elijah Zevenbergen answered Wednesday night at Arlington Raceway.  The second-running Zevenbergen dove from the top of the track to the bottom following a late restart, taking the lead from Jim Horejsi and ultimately taking the $2,500 checkers in the Sibley County IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout.  Already eligible to qualify for the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational, Zevenbergen was the fifth different leader in the 25-lapper and crossed the stripe ahead of Horejsi and Curt Lund.  Michael Jaennette had drawn the pole and ran in front of Jeffrey Larson before spinning out of first. Larson’s turn at the front ended with turn two troubles that saw him exit for the pits. Lund inherited the lead, surrendering the point three laps later to Horejsi, who stayed in charge until the lap 22 restart.  Tim Pessek and Tim Johnson rounded out the top five. Matt Speckman was the $500 king of the hill winner.  Matt Looft repeated as the Shootout Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod winner [Read More]
