First season wins at Boone go to Ward, Jerovetz, Sachau, Knutson, Zehm

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 14, 2022) – It was week number three of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Boone Speedway on Saturday night and there were new winners for 2022 in all divisions. Tim Ward captured his first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature. Troy Jerovetz won in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Jake Sachau took the checkers in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Eric Knutson visited victory lane for the first time this season in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division and it was Bryan Zehm taking his first win of the year in IMCA STARS Mod Lite action. In the STARS Mod Lite 15-lap feature, Zehm caught early leader Ben George and took over the top spot at lap six, never to look back. Lapped traffic was no issue for Zehm as he held the pack at bay to capture the win. Joel Huggins, who had won the two previous races, started 10th and finished as the runner-up. Brown, Anderson among winners at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 13, 2022) – Beautiful weather conditions greeted fans and drivers for the second night of racing at the CJ Speedway on Friday night. A swift racing program was run with the final checkered flag waving at 9:30 p.m. Jarrett Brown had his Bill Falyer-owned Modified dialed in and scored the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature win. Brown stated in victory lane “We have had terrible luck so far this season with having lost two engines in the first three races that we have entered.” Brown found the right combination on Friday night and scored a convincing feature win over last week’s feature winner Troy Cordes. Marshalltown season opener wins to Rust, Jaennette, Olson, Schluetter, Huggins, Gill

It was also API Solutions Salute to the Military night, and all veterans and active service members were admitted free to a full night of racing action. It was Joel Rust taking the honors in winning the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event and Michael Jaennette pulled off a spectacular late-race move to take the win for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Kyle Olson won the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod “A” main, and Luke Schluetter was a happy camper after winning his first-ever feature in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. McCollett scores emotional, fulfilling win at Diamond Park

(May 7, 2022) – Victory lane was full of emotions and plenty of tears Saturday night at Diamond Park Speedway as Paul McCollett, driver of the no. 94KB IMCA STARS Mod Lite, found himself amongst family and friends in celebration of his first feature win since his son’s tragic passing. The elder McCollett and his wife Veronica lost their son Caleb in a motor vehicle accident in October of 2021. McCollett said “Roni and I agreed that my first win for him was perfect because it was his and our home track for over 20 years. Nolan, Sobiesczyk, Schmidt are IMCA winners at Shawano

By Justin Zirngible. SHAWANO, Wis. (May 7, 2022) – Three IMCA drivers raced to season-first wins at Shawano Speedway on Saturday night. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars took to the track for the first “A” main of the night and The Class Too Tough To Tame did not disappoint. The father-son duo of Vern and Dylan Stedjee started on the front row for the 20-lap main event. Vern Stedjee got the jump on the start and led the first 15 circuits. A late caution tightened the field as the high line was starting to come in. Shawano’s Trent Nolan would use that groove to gain the advantage after the restart and go on to take the checkered flag. Hanna, Becerra top opening night Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway. All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two. The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot. While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win. Keller dominates opening night at Dacotah Speedway

By Becca Pelkey MANDAN, N.D. (May 6, 2022) – Jeremy Keller led every time around the track in winning Friday’s opening night feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Dacotah Speedway. Shawn Strand and Keller led the field to the green flag for the 25-lap feature. Keller pulled away as Strand tried to hold off Spencer Wilson for second. A series of mid-race cautions regrouped the field which allowed Travis Hagen to make it a three-car battle for second. They sliced and diced for position on the track as defending track champion Quentin Kinzley lurked in fifth. Hagen passed Wilson for third and challenged Strand for second but when the checkered flag waved, came up short to second running Strand. Spencer Wilson finished fourth ahead of Kinzley. Defending track champion Stan Thompson led early in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Stan’s son Alex quickly reeled in his dad and they raced side-by-side for several laps. A Saturday of Sioux City winners at Park Jefferson

(May 7, 2022) – Buoyed by Cody Thompson claiming the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory to lead a top-four sweep, Sioux City was well-represented on the top finishers list on the Saturday, May 7, program at Park Jefferson International Speedway. Thompson led fellow Sioux Citians Bob Moore and R.J. Merchant and South Sioux City native Ricky Stephan among the local racers in the Modified main. David Miller and Tyler Smith kept the theme going with a one-two River City finish in IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.The remaining victors for a beautiful early May evening were Devon McMartin, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods; Elijah Zevenbergen, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; and Anthony Clark, Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Chadwick, Fraser, Robles come back for seconds at Antioch

By Don Martin II ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 7, 2022) – Kellen Chadwick won the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Antioch Speedway. This was the second win of the season for Chadwick. Sean Wilson led the opening lap ahead of Bobby Motts Jr. before the yellow flag waved. On the restart, Terry DeCarlo Jr. made an impressive maneuver on the outside to gain the lead with brother Nick DeCarlo following him into second. DeCarlo Jr. led his younger brother on a lap three restart with Chadwick settling into third. Following the next yellow, DeCarlo Jr continued to lead with Chadwick moving into second on the lap six restart. Chadwick ultimately made an inside move on the backstretch on lap 17 to take over. Motts started pressuring DeCarlo a little bit for the second position as Chadwick pulled away. Fans hail Hall Saturday at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 7, 2022) – After he went back to the drawing board, Derek Hall went to victory lane. Hall led from the first lap to the checkers in winning Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event at Eagle Raceway. “We didn’t have a very good showing the first night so we went back to the drawing board. We had two weeks to do it because we got rained out again last week,” he said from victory lane. “So we spent those two weeks going over the car and found some things here and there that needed to be changed. It was pretty good tonight.” Ryan Arbogast and Gary Saathoff rounded out the top three.
