Savage dominant in Quincy Stock Car win

(May 11) – Brandon Savage dominated the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature event Sunday at Quincy Raceway as he was never seriously challenged by the rest of the field. Terry Houston scored the second spot followed by Beau Tayler in third, Abe Huls in fourth and Jim Lynch in fifth. The Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA SportMod main event was marred by the caution flag during the opening laps but the race to the checkered flag was a great one as the field found its rhythm. Brad Holtmeyer picked up his first-ever feature event win as held took to the high side to blast his way through the field to take over the lead from Tanner Klingele. Rogers, Wehling are new to winner’s circle at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (May 10) – Jason Rogers and Ron Wehling became first-time winners this season at RPM Speedway Saturday night. Rogers took the lead from Cody Williams on the second lap of the 20-lap Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car feature and led the rest of the way. Wehling took control of the 20-lap Rebel Tank Service IMCA Hobby Stock feature on lap five. Mike Giesenhagen led the opening lap before Monte Honas moved into the top spot. David Murray Jr. won his second local S & W Supply IMCA Modified feature this season. Jesse Richter led the first eight laps before Murray made the pass. Dylan Sherfick made a late charge but had to settle for the runner-up spot. IMCA Modified win at Dodge City is career first for Jesse Smith

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 10) – Jesse Smith snared his first career IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Smith battled past defending track champion Austin Allen on the second lap and led the rest of the way in the 25-lapper. “I’ve been trying to win one of these here for ten years now,” the happy victor exclaimed in victory lane. While Smith started the feature from the pole position, Allen led the opening round from the second row outside only to have Smith battle back into the lead the next time and stretch out a comfortable advantage until the race’s only caution with just five laps to go closed Allen back up to his rear bumper. Allen challenged Smith for the point with the duo battling side-by-side for two laps before Smith reestablished command for keeps. Defending champion scores SportMod win at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 10) – Defending track champion Gary Saathoff won his first local NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature of the season Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Saathoff moved under Joey Feyen on the 10th circuit for the lead before Benji Legg vaulted all of the way up to 2nd after another lap. “I got a good start for the feature and that’s the key here at Eagle. The track ended up slick in the ‘A’ but there was some moisture down on the bottom,” Saathoff said. “So I put my left rear in it and stayed there.” Dylan Smith won his second straight Kaplan University IMCA Modified main while Eric Reichwaldt was promoted to the top spot in the Mud In America IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature after the apparent winner failed post-race tech. Benton County XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour race postponed

VINTON, Iowa (May 13) – Blame all that rain on Monday and this morning’s unseasonably cool temperatures for postponement of tonight’s XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour event at Benton County Speedway. The fifth annual tour for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds was to have opened Tuesday at Vinton. That race will now be rescheduled on a date to be determined. First night for the series will now be on Memorial Day Monday, May 26 at I-35 Speedway in Mason City. The feature pays $1,000 to win, a minimum of $150 to start and is a qualifier for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing to follow. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are also on the holiday card.

Pounds races to ‘awesome’ 100th career IMCA Modified win at home track Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (May 10) – The winning driver might not even have been the happiest person in victory lane Saturday night at Bakersfield Speedway. Brad Pounds raced to the 100th feature victory of his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified career and then shared in the accomplishment with his father Scott, IMCA’s national champion in 1994 and an 82-time winner in the same division during his own career. “My dad was just on top of the world about it. It means a lot to both of us to have the top two win totals in the state,” Pounds said. “We work real hard at this. He’s given me 100 percent of his knowledge. Dailey delivers with late pass in Fairmont North Star show

FAIRMONT, Minn. (May 9) – Tenth starting Eric Dailey was first following a green, white, checkered finish to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature in Friday’s Redline Racing Parts North Star Series feature at Fairmont Raceway. After running third much of the way, Dailey had slipped into second before getting caught in a multi-car tangle on the 25th and final circuit. He went low and caught leader Josh Meyer on the final turn for the victory, his series career and division-leading fifth. Meyer, Jay Noteboom, Roger Nielsen and Tad Reutzel completed the top five. Nielsen also advanced nine positions while Reutzel was a plus seven spots. Derek Green started on the pole and led all 15 times around the track in topping the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Thornton Strikes again at Canyon

(May 10) – Ricky Thornton Jr. continued his mastery of the 3/8-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval by winning the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified portion of Saturday night’s Fourth Annual Mother’s Day Race for the Cure. A dominant force in Winter Challenge action before wins at both the Copper on Dirt and Spring Speed event, Thornton padded his point lead by taking the win from the pole position. Thornton won the Mother’s Day Race for the Cure event for the second year in a row ahead of Cody Center with Mike Strobel, Chris McCurdy Jr. and Mark Stewart rounding out the top five.

Emerson, Sherbon, Brown continue trend of first-time winners in Independence

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 10) – For the third straight week, three drivers became first-time winners at Independence Motor Speedway. For two of them, the victories were the first of their careers in their respective divisions. John Emerson had won numerous IMCA Sunoco Stock Car features in recent years in Independence, but it took just the third night of the season for the first-year IMCA Late Model driver to find victory lane. From his second row starting spot, Emerson quickly worked past front row starters Joel Brasch and Rick Wendling to assume command. He paced the field through a handful of cautions over the first six laps before the race went non-stop over the final 19 circuits of the 25-lap feature. IMCA Modified, Stock Car, Late Model drivers pursue Penske Racing Shocks prizes

READING, Pa. – Penske Racing Shocks builds on a strong first season of sponsorship with renewed contingency awards for three IMCA divisions in 2014. Product certificates good for $350, $250 and $150, respectively, go to top three eligible finishers in each of the five regions for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and in both IMCA Sunoco Stock Car regions. Certificates in the same increments will be awarded to eighth, ninth and 10th place finishers in national standings for IMCA Late Models.
