Kay wins a wild one in Dubuque Deery

DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 13) – He’s won six straight races at Dubuque Speedway this season and eight in a row dating back to last year. But Justin Kay has never won a race anywhere like he did at Dubuque on Sunday night. Kay inherited the lead in the Deery Brothers Summer Series main event when Mike Murphy Jr. broke with seven circuits left in the IMCA Late Model tour 50-lapper. Brian Harris then came from deep in the field to challenge before getting into the wall with two to go. Five lead changes, eight cautions and plenty of excitement preceded Kay’s $3,000 payday, the third this season and second straight for the top driver in the series point standings. “It was a wild night, that’s for sure. Auringer earns second Hogan Memorial win at Benton County Speedway

By Ryan Clark VINTON, Iowa (July 13) – The last time J.D. Auringer won the Hogan Memorial, he led every lap except one. He did himself one better Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Auringer, who first won the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified special in 2007, led all 40 laps Sunday night to earn his second victory in the event’s 20-year history. Auringer earned $1,250 for winning the race, plus $2,250 in lap money and the halfway leader bonus and additional bonus money to bring his total share of the purse to $3,850. He also receives a free wrap from Tenacity Graphics, plus a new Hoosier tire from IMCA. The win also put him on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Kay, Marolf tires pass post-Deery test

VINTON, Iowa (July 11) – Results from the July 8 Deery Brothers Summer Series event at West Liberty are now official, as testing at an independent lab showed that samples from the tires of the top two finishers conformed to IMCA benchmarks. Justin Kay was the winner and Nick Marolf the runner-up. Tire samples have now been tested following multiple sanctioned races, two of them being IMCA Late Model tour events this season. Those tires were determined to be IMCA legal in each occasion.

Hawkeye State Speedweek sports three XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour dates

VINTON, Iowa (July 11) – Following in the tire tracks of the high-paying Hogan Memorial, three XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour events are scheduled over the course of just five nights during the Hawkeye State Modified Speedweek. Touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start on Monday, July 14 at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson and Tuesday, July 15 at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa. Top prize is $2,000 at the Thursday, July 17 Harris Clash at Knoxville Raceway. That event pays a minimum of $250 to start. Carter doubles up at Southern Iowa

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (July 9) – Cayden Carter was a double winner Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway, following his run to the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car checkers with a visit to victory lane after the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified main. Carter took the lead on lap eight and stayed in front to the Stock Car finish. He shot out to the early lead in the Modified go and never looked back in taking his first local win of the season in that division. Ryan Fullenkamp led every lap of a caution-free KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Mike Hughes won his third straight and seventh local Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling Company IMCA Hobby Stock feature while Bill Whalen Jr. lead all 10 laps in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature to take his fourth win of the season at SIS.

Wild West IMCA Modified Speedweek Right Around The Corner

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – Over the span of a week’s time later in July, three tracks will host a total of six Wild West IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Speedweek races to determine bragging rights for the division in the Pacific Northwest. Beginning on Saturday, July 19 at Sunset Speedway Park and ending on Saturday, July 26 at Willamette Speedway, the six-race series will determine who are the best IMCA Modified chauffeurs in the region at three of the most competitive tracks in the state of Oregon. Cottage Grove Speedway will host two mid-week events on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22 and 23. Since 2011 there have been three completed Modified Speedweeks. Jesse Williamson has won the last two while the inaugural edition went to Brian Poppa. Already a stout field of competitors plan to make the journey in 2014. Touring IMCA Late Models are at Dubuque Speedway for a Sunday, July 13 event that pays $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Also running are IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, for all applicable points. Benson stands tallest at SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (July 4) – Aaron Benson finished first on The Fourth. As a result, he drove out of the pit area at Hancock County Speedway with a check for $3,500 and a trophy taller than himself. Benson led all 25 laps from the pole in the twice-rescheduled, MaxYield Seed-sponsored Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Nationals. The victory was good for $2,500; Benson also got $500 bonuses for having won previously this season at Britt and for racing at least three times there previously in 2014. “I’ve been second at big-money races before. We finally got a big win here,” said Benson, at 5-8 four inches shorter than the hardware he took home. ”There were a lot of good cars lined up behind me.
