All roads lead to Boone for Sept. 7-12 Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – Boone Speedway becomes the center of the dirt track racing universe for the Sept. 7-12 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Drivers from more than 20 states and Canada are already registered for IMCA’s centennial season Super Nationals. They’ll chase shares of a purse that exceeds $275,000 and more than $60,000 in contingency awards at the 33rd annual version of America’s Racin’ Vacation. “We continue to pride ourselves on the total purse paid out and contingencies awarded to drivers at Super Nationals and rightfully so,” IMCA President Brett Root said. “We’re looking forward to celebrating our 100th year at Boone Speedway during the biggest and the best race of the season.” A very driver and fan-friendly format will be continued as racing begins at 2 p.m. each day of Super Nationals. $250 Added to IMCA Stock Car purse at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – Eric Mahlik and Advocare have chipped in $250 for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars this Saturday, Aug. 22. Racing gets underway with the six divisions in action beginning at 6 p.m. The Stock Car feature winner will pull five pills. Each pill is worth $50 to that finishing position. One pill will be drawn from the 1-4 finishing positions. The other four pills will be drawn from the 5-20 finishing positions. “Advocare is a proud sponsor of the IMCA Stock Car Chase division. We see they are an exciting division just like we offer exciting products like Spark. We will be on hand offering free Spark to anyone who would like to try it. This will be on a first come, first served basis, so I suggest fans arrive early,” said Eric Mahlik, Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified driver and Advocare representative. Early entries for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals soar past 100

EAGLE, Neb. – Early entries for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Nationals have already soared past 100. Drivers from 13 states and Canada will converge on Eagle Raceway Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 3-6 for the third annual event. The Sunday finale sees the winner take home $2,000 and all other main event qualifiers earn a minimum of $1,000. The field of 27 will start three wide. Pre-tech runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and will be followed by an open practice on Thursday, The front three rows qualify and Jake Ita Memorial heats are on Friday. Rows four, five and six qualify on Saturday, rows seven, eight and nine on Sunday. Friday and Saturday qualifiers pay $700 to win while the top prize in Saturday’s Ita Memorial is $1,000. Clay County cancels for this weekend

SPENCER, Iowa – All racing at the Clay County Fair Speedway this weekend has been cancelled. This includes IMCA races scheduled Friday, Aug. 21 and the National Sprint League Race on Saturday, Aug. 22. “Water is still standing in the speedway area this morning and the weather forecast for Saturday doesn’t look good,” said CCF Manager Jeremy Parsons. “I made a mistake holding a race earlier in May when track conditions were too wet and it caused a very bad experience for some of our drivers. I am not going to make the same mistake twice.” Racing will resume at the Clay County Fair Speedway next month during the Clay County Fair. Two straight for Wilinski at Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 15) – Jerry Wilinski cruised to his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win in as many weeks Saturday at Shawano Speedway. John Peters and Kevin Feck took turns in the runner-up spot trying to track down the Wilinski machine. Feck eventually grabbed hold of second and held on through the last half of the race. Brandon Nygaard ran the high side to perfection in racing to his career first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Dan Michonski picked up his first local win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Two hundred and twenty-five backpacks, complete with school supplies, went home with kids as Little Caesar’s and Mike’s Videos presented Backpack Night at the Shawano Speedway. With the help of numerous race teams and sponsors, backpacks were given away during intermission.

Wilson wins again at Merced

By Don Martin II MERCED, Calif. (Aug. 16) – Alex Wilson collected his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win of the season Sunday at Merced Speedway. Wilson set a fast pace from the onset and won ahead of Ryan Porter, who gained second on lap 12 but wasn’t able to make up enough distance to pressure the leader. Bruce Nelson impressed with his second win of the season in the 20-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Nelson slipped underneath Dwayne Short for the lead on lap nine. Nelson set a rapid pace up front and had nearly a half-lap lead on Gary Tucker at the finish.

Zuhlsdorf reigns at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 15) – Kris Zuhlsdorf picked up his first feature win of the season in Saturday’s Unhinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMod feature at Arlington Raceway. Zuhlsdorf took the lead following an early restart. Jeremy Brown moved up from his sixth place start, tried unsuccessfully to pass and settled for second ahead of Chris Issacson and Matt Looft. Justin Luinenburg won the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock feature, leading flag to flag and holding off point leader Cory Probst, who had battled with him for 10 laps after moving up from his ninth place start. The B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature had four different leaders. Ultimately, Matt Speckman was the final leader, beating Dan Mackenthun to the finish line by the width of his bumper. Edler dominates 141 SportMod main

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (Aug. 15) – Billy Edler won his first career 141 Speedway feature in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division in dominating fashion Saturday evening. Phil Mott held the point before Edler decided on lap five that it was his night to shine. Edler moved underneath the leader and never looked back. Edler opened nearly a straightaway lead by halfway. Scott Besaw ran to second but couldn’t cut into the lead until it was too late. Edler worked in lapped traffic the final five laps but was never touched in earning his first career win. Besaw finished second ahead of Scott Boyea. Kevin Bethke beat Travis Arenz for the fourth spot. Eric Scribner celebrated his birthday by winning the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and Devin Snellenberger topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Matt Brehmer started way back in ninth, was in the lead on lap two and sped to the Mach-1 Sport Compact win.

VanLaanen cruises at Thunderhill Raceway

(Aug. 16) – After taking the lead on lap two and surviving a number of restarts, Jarred VanLaanen’s cruised to victory Sunday in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event at Thunderhill Raceway. VanLaanen built a straightaway advantage, only to see it taken away by a caution on lap eight. VanLaanen again set sail on the restart, leaving the battle for second. Jacob Zellner bobbled while running near the front, setting off a chain reaction wreck that collected title contenders Bernie Reinhardt and Tom Stark. Stark returned on the lead lap after a trip down pit lane. Several mid-race cautions kept the field tight but no one had anything to challenge VanLaanen, who dominated the remainder of the event with his second feature win of the season. Vince Engebregtsen was second and Cody Rass placed third. Other feature winners were Greg Gretz in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, Tom Brumlic in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Dave Schmidt in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.
