Mashl dominates Hall of Fame Night feature

By Tom Wagner LUXEMBURG, Wis. (July 31) – Friday was Hall of Fame night at Luxemburg Speedway and perfect night for one of the track’s stars of the past to shine again. Mike Mashl, a Luxemburg Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified champion nearly two decades ago, powered away to his first feature win of the season on a night that included the induction of three new members into the Speedway’s Hall of Fame. When he ran the circuits full time, Mashl was one of the top IMCA Modified competitors in the area, with a resume that included the 1997 Luxemburg championship. Back behind the wheel on a limited basis now, he was making only his second run at Luxemburg this season. Crowell dominates, Ferguson wins first

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Aug. 1) – Aaron Crowell dominated the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified class, winning both his qualifying race and the main event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The 2004 champion was untouchable as he blasted into an early lead and never looked back. Crowell’s family and friends work on and sponsor his car. When his engine started going bad a couple of weeks ago, they feared the season would end early. Earlier in the week, Crowell borrowed an engine from Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod racer Fred Ryland. “I was just trying the engine out, and the thing ran like a top,” Crowell said in victory lane. “I’ve got to see if I can keep it.” Terry Kaiser finished second with Nick Viscusi III chasing him across the finish line. Off Road IMCA Hobby Stock win is first for Koch

(Aug. 1) – Hometown driver Gage Koch earned his first feature victory in three years of participating in the competitive IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division Saturday at Off Road Speedway. Koch began the race with the outside front row position and immediately moved to the lead, with Cameron Wilkinson in pursuit. Surviving three restarts that closed the field behind him, including the last one with five laps to go which involved Wilkinson’s spin, and placed two different cars on his rear bumper, Koch faced a final challenge for the lead. Jim Kimmel and Tejay Mielke were in a heated battle for second before Mielke passed Kimmel on the low side coming out of turn two with two laps remaining. Thornton schools IMCA Modified foes at Canyon

Thornton rallied from the 11th starting position for his third consecutive Back to School Special triumph ahead of Steve Stultz with Lance Mari, Garrett Funk and Guy Norton in the top five.

Cole three-peats at Tri-State

(Aug. 1) – Tate Cole went back to back to back – yes, that’s three – for his seventh Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win of the season Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. Van Gemmill finished in second and Jake Davis was third. Justin Johnson collected his third IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win of the season ahead of a hard-charging Dalton Ragsdale and former winner Chris Patterson. In the IMCA SportMod feature, Ken McCarty took home his fifth win of the season and second in a row ahead of former winner Steve Little and Lonny Flanagan.

Smith wins fifth at I-90

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D, (Aug. 1) – Colin Smith added to his impressive streak of wins and runner-up finishes in I-90 Speedway’s Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car division by driving to his fifth victory of the season Saturday. Smith won handily as he led all 20 laps, finishing ahead of Ben Waxdahl and Dusty Ballenger. Smith’s streak of top two finishes is now at seven. That includes four wins over the last five nights of racing. Smith credited his father for finding the right set up and said, “He told me to just go out there and race.”

Lynch, Gower and Abbott grab Quincy checkers

(Aug. 2) – Jim Lynch, Joey Gower and Kimberly Abbott all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceway on Sunday, Aug. 2 during Titan Wheel and Tire Mid Season Championships. Lynch worked his way to the front of the Powder Coat Plus IMCA Stock Car main event on the ninth lap and held off Beau Taylor for the final nine circuits to capture the feature event win. Michael Long scored third. Gower took over the lead of the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event on the fifth lap and held off a succession of challengers for his third feature win of the season. Bobby Six scored the second spot followed by Brandon Lennox in third. Abbott and Brandon Lambert put on quite as show as the two battled for the win in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main event. Ballard, Cordes, Roster, Olson among winners at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa – Nathan Ballard continued his winning ways Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock point leader drove to his third straight win and eighth of the season on the Vinton quarter-mile. Pole-sitter Jason Cox held the lead for the early stages of the 16-lapper before Leah Wroten made her bid for the top spot on the fifth circuit. As Wroten made her way into the lead, Ballard chased her into second. Wroten fought off pressure from Ballard until he was able to sneak by for the lead with four laps to go. Ballard held on for the win while Wroten fought off pressure from Justin Wacha to finish second. Troy Cordes first used the high side and then the low groove on the way to his second Cassill Motors IMCA Modified win of the season. Snyder takes first checkers of season at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 31) – Jon Snyder took the lead early in Friday’s Coors Light IMCA Modified 20-lap feature and stayed in front to the checkers, despite the best of efforts of Jake Strayer and then Brian Irvine. The local win was the first of the season for Snyder. Irvine ran second the last 11 circuits and Strayer ended in third. Donavon Smith took charge just before a couple mid-race cautions and drove to his sixth Miller Lite IMCA Stock Car victory at Marshalltown this season. Garrett Eilander worked his way through lapped traffic and held off hard-charging Austin Luellen for Toby K’s Hideaway IMCA Hobby Stock honors. Jared VanDeest caught Sam Wieben for the lead and eventual win, his fourth locally in 2015, in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event.

Cook wins second straight at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 30) – After not picking up a feature win in more that a year, Doug Cook did not wait long to make it two in a row as the hometown driver topped the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Cook raced from the fifth starting spot to the lead on the first circuit. The only thing that slowed his trip to the winner’s circle was a yellow flag on lap 10. Jeramie Faber had his best run of the summer by placing second with Jake Simpson third. Rob Hughes captured his first local Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature of the season, leading the whole way despite being unable to shake off challenges from Tad Reutzel and Jesse Hoeft. Hoeft passed Reutzel with one lap to go to place second. Heath Tulp led the distance in recording his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory this season at Algona.
