Seymour sets May 8, May 11 test and tune sessions

SEYMOUR, Wis. – Work continues to progress as the 2016 season quickly approaches at Seymour Raceway Park. The test and tune on Sunday, May 8 will take place from 5-8 p.m. Another has been added and will be held Wednesday, May 11, also from 5-8 p.m. Both sessions will be open to drivers in any division wishing to take laps on the new track surface to get ready for the season opener. The official season opener is set for Sunday, May 15 with racing at 6 p.m. WAPL 105.7 FM will be on hand with a live remote from the track from beginning at 4 p.m. Joe Verdegan will do a Life in the Past Lane book signing and will be joined by Seymour alumni Roger Paul, J.J. Smith and Denny Teshke. Schrader Night up next at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. — Last August, a new face entered a night’s racing action at the Salina Speedway, but it was a very familiar one as NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader visited the 3/8 mile oval. Schrader competed in the Long McArthur IMCA Modified division and finished a respectable sixth place after starting 13th in an exciting feature event that saw Corey Burch outlasting Corey Lagroon for the win. He returns on Friday, May 6 to go head to head against the local drivers once again. The IMCA Modified division will also be racing for $1,000 to win, with the winning driver earning a place on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot for the race to be held during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Coming up in May at Dodge City Raceway Park

With the page of the calendar, attention shifts to the month of May that features a pair of big events atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval in Southwest Kansas. The initial event of May takes place this Saturday night, May 7, with the initial appearance of the NCRA/Gomuddy.com NSL 360 Sprint Cars along with a full card of Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Rounding out the month of May will be the Saturday, May 21, round of championship chase action featuring all five track divisions of Precise Racing Products Sprint Cars, plus the four IMCA sanctioned divisions. Heartland Park Topeka checkers fly for Fuqua

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 1) – On a night that was less than perfect, one of the best features of the early season occurred Sunday night at the 2nd Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Night Showdown at Heartland Park Topeka. In the BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified feature it was a full-blown battle. Jared Rogers jumped out to the lead and would hold on for a majority of the laps but a yellow changed the complexion of the race. Following the restart, Jordan Grabouski took a slim lead over Rogers going into the first turn late in the race. Rogers fought back hard on the inside, but as the two exited turn two Darron Fuqua threaded the needle with a pass for the lead in the middle and it stuck. Quad City Speedway Deery show rescheduled for May 15

EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 2) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series show at Quad City Speedway has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 15. Rained out on May 1, the IMCA Late Model tour event at East Moline pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. No change in the daily schedule has been made from the original race date: Pit gates open at 3 p.m. while the grandstand opens at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 5 p.m. with racing to follow. Also on the card are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for all applicable points, along with street stocks. Box seating is $18. Other spectator admission is $15 for adults, $8 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $30. Ward keeps Tri-City streak alive

AUBURN, Mich. (April 29) – A.J. Ward raced to his second Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature wins in as many starts this season Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Defending track champion Myron DeYoung, and Tanner Pray paced the field of 20 to the green. DeYoung grabbed a straightaway advantage before he caught the back of the field by the halfway point of the 20-lapper. Ward worked his way to the back bumper of DeYoung before the caution flew for a spun car on lap thirteen. This set up the duel fans have seen frequently over the past few years between Ward and DeYoung. On the first restart, Craig Vance, running third, lost control in turn two and collected a number of top drivers. This set up another restart for the final seven laps. DeYoung and Ward swapped the lead three times on the first lap back to green flag racing, but Ward would prove to be too much as he took his second feature in a row to start the season. Van Straten wins again at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (April 30) – A hardy crowd turned out to see 132 competitors duke it out on the venerable Shawano Speedway half mile Saturday night. Brian Mullen and Kevin Bethke each won their first local feature of the year while Travis Van Straten won his second in a row. Kevin Feck took off like a rocket at the start of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature while venerable Jerry Muenster moved into second. Eighth starter Mullen worked his way up to third by lap five, before a scary incident on the front stretch slowed the pace and eliminated numerous cars from the race. Once the race went back to green, Mullen passed Muenster and set his sights on Feck. Mullen got to the inside of Feck on lap eight to take the lead away. Feck soon pulled to the pits, moving Lance Arneson to second. Arneson, who had started 14th, pestered the leader for the duration but Mullen was not to be denied on his way to victory lane. Michigan’s I-96 opens Friday with $1,196 to win IMCA Ice Breaker

LAKE ODESSA, Mich. – I-96 Speedway opens this Friday, May 6 with the $1,196 to win Ice Breaker special for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. The 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier pays a minimum of $125 to start. All applicable points, including local track points, will be awarded. There is no entry fee. Top two finishers in each Modified heat will be entered in the $500 to win dash for cash. Pit gates at Lake Odessa open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $8 for kids ages 6-12 and free for five and under. Oh what a night at Oshkosh opener!

(April 29) – Season openers have a way of getting out of control sometimes, and with 171 cars in 6 divisions filling the pit area at the Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway on Friday night, one could only hope for the best. The veteran staff at the Zone was up to the challenge and an entire program was complete in 3-½ hours. The drivers also did their job to near perfection with all very competitive features run in just under an hour. There were only a handful of cautions during the entire night, compliments of a very smooth, fast track. Defending national and track champion Travis Van Straten pulled away from the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field on his way to the feature win. Ryan Blank and Jerry Wheeler battled for second with Winkler taking the spot at the finish while Blank, in his first run in the Stock Car division, settled for a strong third place finish.
