Design 500 giving new Lady Eagle awards in addition to Deery, IMCA Modified prizes

TUKWILA, Wash. – The company that popularized IMCA’s Lady Eagle award goes above and beyond for female drivers again in 2017. The Tukwila, Wash., driver suit and apparel manufacturer will give $250 product certificates to the top female competitor in each of the eight IMCA sanctioned divisions. The top driver in overall Lady Eagle point standings also receives a set of No Fly Zone SFI underwear. Design 500 is in its 19th year as an IMCA sponsor. Lady Eagle awards have been part of that sponsorship program for 11 years. “Though the evolution of the Lady Eagle program, it is important to not only crown an overall champion but to recognize our outstanding female drivers in each division,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder said. “Design 500 continues to do that in 2017 and based on early results it will be a great battle all season.” Two hundred and twenty-three drivers vied for Lady Eagle honors in 2016. Strickler strikes gold in green to checkered Fury at the Fairgrounds feature

(June 24) – One night after scoring a $10,000 victory, Kyle Strickler earned another $5,000 by picking up the win in the IMCA Modified feature in Shawano Speedway’s the Fury at the Fairgrounds. The 30 lap IMCA feature saw Strickler, the two-time IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champion out of Mooresville, N.C., take the lead at the drop of the green flag. Nebraska racer Dylan Smith, also a former Super Nationals king and with a national title to his credit as well, took the lead on lap two. Smith used the high side of the track to race to a sizeable advantage over Strickler by lap 10. Strickler, known by the nickname ‘The High Side Tickler,’ searched the track looking for an advantage. MSD renews decal program support of IMCA Stock Car division

EL PASO, Texas – IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers are chief among beneficiaries of MSD sponsorship support for the sanctioning body. The El Paso, Texas, manufacturer and distributor is part of the national decal program for the division again and gives $100 product certificates to top 10 drivers in final standings for both Northern and Southern regions. This season is MSD’s 14th as an IMCA sponsor. Kay wins thriller, Freiburger repeats at Dubuque

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 25) – The Out-Pace IMCA Late Model main event was a thriller on a fast-paced night of racing Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. Dan Shelliam quickly took the lead by using the extreme high line around the track and appeared to be planning on celebrating his anniversary in victory lane, but the late race heroics by Justin Kay changed those plans. Shelliam saw his huge lead erased by a lap 17 caution. Kay and Shelliam swapped the lead on every corner the last eight circuits by using very well executed slide jobs. When the final checkered flew it was Kay holding off Shelliam to garner the win. While the leaders were battling it out, the race for third was hotly contested as well. Gereau, Thies take first Raceway Park wins of season

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 25) – Two drivers broke into victory lane for the first time this season Sunday at Raceway Park. In the Casey’s General Stores IMCA Stock Car feature, Todd Gereau took control at the front of the field after a mid-race pileup in the first turn involving six cars shook up the field. In the final laps, Gereau came under heavy pressure from multi-time champion track Jason Ward but kept control of the inside line to take the win. The Total Motors IMCA Modified feature saw Jim Thies take his first win of the year in a near flag-to-flag performance. The Golden Auto Sales IMCA Hobby Stocks had another big field of cars, with action coming right down to the checkered flag. Murray takes top IMCA Modified honors at Lexington

(June 26) – The drivers with the most feature wins in IMCA history was back in victory lane Sunday as Sunday’s main event at Lexington Raceway was dominated by David Murray Jr. Murray took the lead from Brandon Clough on lap four after Clough and Charles Stryker exchanged the lead multiple times in the first three laps. Stryker ended up bringing out the only yellow flag of the race after he spun out in turn four with five laps to go. All-time divisional wins leader Mike Nichols added another checkered to his 2017 resume in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Nichols took the lead on a lap-two restart following a spin in turn three. Casey Werkmeister gave Nichols a challenge for the lead late in the race but spun with only four laps remaining. Hoskinson charges to Off Road Hobby Stock checkers

Hoskinson passed front-runner Tracy Buck with five laps left and held off Cameron Wilkinson and Sal Hernandez to join Austin Brauner as the only drivers with two wins in the competitive division. Wilkinson grabbed second for a sixth top five finish with Hernandez taking third place. Jason Wilkinson added a third win, his second in a row, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature with son Kyle earning second ahead of Shawn Primrose who interrupted a potential one-two-three Wilkinsons finish by edging Jason’s father Dean for third place. July 1 is deadline for rookie application

VINTON, Iowa – Eligible IMCA drivers who have yet to do so have until this Saturday, July 1 to complete and submit their rookie of the year application. First-year competitors can call Director of Membership and Points Virginia Lindsey at the home office (319 472-2201) to sign up. Rookie application forms are also published in the Inside IMCA newsletter and can be mailed to IMCA at 1800 West D Street in Vinton, Iowa, 52349. Those applications must be postmarked on or before July 1.

Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour travels to Hancock County for June 27 salute to veterans

BRITT, Iowa (June 22) – Hancock County Speedway salutes those who have served our country when the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour comes to Britt next Tuesday, June 27. IMCA Modifieds race for $3,000 to win in the fourth installment of the 2017 tour. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier is sponsored by Mike and Barb Schroeder. Completing the busy race night program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running for $2,500 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $2,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,800 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $400 to win. Rice gets IMCA RaceSaver pavement win at Shenandoah Speedway

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 24) – ‘Bullet’ Bill Rice would tell anybody who would listen he didn’t know if he could put it all together and win a pavement race. But after Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event at Shenandoah Speedway, Rice could tell about getting the lead early and then holding off all challengers for his first big IMCA RaceSaver win. Rice and Mike Keeton paced the field to green and they stayed virtually side-by-side for five laps until Rice inched ahead. The battle was on up front as Rice and Keeton were joined by Ryan Price and Jerald Harris. The leader made sure he hit his marks and kept the car where it was happy as the cars behind were moving all over to find a way by. With one to go, Rice was still using his same line as they came to traffic. Keeton tried a low line pass around the traffic but it cost him momentum.
