Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour checkers fly for defending champ at Minot

MINOT, N.D. (July 9) – Once he found his way back to the front, there was no catching Hunter Marriott on night two of the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic IMCA Modified Tour. The defending tour champion got the lead back from Billy Kendall and checked out on the way to the $2,300 checkers Sunday at Nodak Speedway. The 30-lapper ran caution-free and Marriott was in and out of lapped traffic much of the way. Ninety Modifieds, plus 42 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, checked in at Minot. Johnny Scott, former tour champions Ricky Thornton Jr. and Aaron Turnbull, and Joel Rust rounded out the top five behind Marriott. Anderson wins JB Life Hobby Stock special

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 6) – Shannon Anderson took full advantage of drawing the pole position, led the whole race and went onto take the $1,000 first place winnings in the JB Life IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Special at the Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday, July 6. Anderson built a big lead after a pair of early caution flags before Chanse Hollatz slowly reeled in the Des Moines driver. But after the yellow flag again flew with three laps to go, Anderson regained control for his fifth feature win of the summer at the track. Cody Nielsen finished second in the race as Brandon Nielsen was third, Hollatz took fourth and Kyle Sidles rounded out the top five as a total of 19 Hobby Stocks answered the call. “I got lucky and drew up front,” said Anderson. “My hat is off to everybody who helps me with the car. IMCA Modifieds race for big checks during I-30’s Ed Jordan Memorial Weekend

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A pair of 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events fill the card for I-30 Speedway’s Ed Jordan Memorial Weekend. The Friday, July 21 Preliminary feature for IMCA Modifieds pays $1,500 to win and a minimum of $150 to start while the Saturday, July 22 Ed Jordan Memorial pays $2,500 to win and a minimum of $250 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region, Allstar Performance State and track points will be given both nights. If paid by July 19, the $125 entry fee for the weekend includes the driver’s pit pass for both nights. Grandstand admission for adults is $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday. Kids ages 6-12 get in for a buck when accompanying a paid adult and youngsters five and under are free both nights. Pit passes are $25. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. both nights. Kay doubles down Friday at Farley

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (July 7) – A big crowd turned out Friday as Farley Speedway hosted Driver/Fan Appreciation night. Justin Kay scored his third clean sweep of the season at the Farley Speedway Promotions tracks by winning both the Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model Feature and the GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modified main event. Kay overtook early leader Nick Marolf and set sail to score an impressive 25-lap Late Model feature win. Kay raced with Tyler Bruening for much of the main event before opening a late advantage of approximately 10 car lengths. Bruening took second ahead of Dan Shelliam. Kay’s win in the Modified feature was certainly not easy as he was challenged throughout the 20-lap feature. Kay passed early leader Mitch Manternach on lap eight and then had to fight off the late-race challenges of Mark Schulte to score the win. Richards sizzles at Thomas County

COLBY, Kan. (July 7) – Terry Richards put in a dominating performance as he led every lap of night two of the Summer Sizzler Week for the United Rebel Sprint Series at Thomas County Speedway. The 25-lapper ran green to checkered. Jake Martens charged past Scott Rhoades for second at the halfway mark and began reeling in Richards but fell short of reaching his back bumper. The win was Richards’ URSS first. Zach Blurton made a late-race charge of his own to capture third, followed by Rhoades and Mark Walinder to complete the top five. Thirty-one cars vied. 100 IMCA Modifieds at Jamestown as Wilson tops record-setting Dakota Classic Tour opener

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (July 8) – Spencer Wilson laughed when he was asked if he was ready to consider himself an IMCA Modified special series specialist. The answer was no – not yet, anyway. With a track record 100 Modifieds checked in for opening night, Wilson led all 30 laps of Saturday’s 28th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour main event at Jamestown Speedway. The win paid $2,300. Wilson had raced his way onto the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot in February with a win in the Arizona Modified Tour. The Saturday checkers came on a night when Modified drivers from 17 states and two Canadian provinces converged on Jamestown. “I enjoy going to big shows like this and racing with this level of competition,” said Wilson. “This was a great group of drivers. Boone’s 50th anniversary special event combines with Prelude to Sept. 4-9 IMCA Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – As its name would imply, Boone Speedway’s 50th anniversary event will serve as a Prelude to the World’s Largest Dirt Track Event. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods fill the card at the Saturday, Sept. 2 Prelude, giving early arrivals for the Sept. 4-9 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s another night on Iowa’s Action Track. The Modified feature will be a qualifying event for next fall’s Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. 2017 Super Nationals logo required for best appearing car contest

BOONE, Iowa – There’s no particular theme, just one important requirement for Modified and Northern SportMod drivers planning to enter the Best Appearing Car contest for their respective divisions at the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. In addition to required decals for the divison, entries must incorporate the 2017 Super Nationals logo, in original and unaltered colors, in the overall design. The logo must be a minimum of 20 inches wide and 13 inches tall and located on the nose or side of the car. “Designs can and should be unique,” commented IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder. “I will email the logo to graphics companies and anyone else who needs the logo can contact me at the IMCA home office.” Golden Empire Towing of Bakersfield, Calif., awards $200 in cash to drivers of the cars judged best appearing in both divisions. United Rebel Sprint Series conclude Summer Sizzler Tour this weekend

COLBY, Kan. (July 7) – With night one of the Summer Sizzler Tour in going to Nebraska’s Toby Chapman, United Rebel Sprint Series drivers are preparing to finish out the four-race series with the final three races this weekend in pursuit of the $1,000 winner’s share for the overall championship. Tonight (Friday) the Rebels make their appearance at Thomas County Speedway in Colby, Kan., after being rained out there earlier this spring.
