Toland adds 2016 title to IMCA Late Model national championship collection

VINTON, Iowa (Sept. 2) – Rob Toland ended a season-long run atop point standings for IMCA Late Models with his career third national championship. Toland adds the 2016 trophy to titles from 2001 and 2005. He won 10 features and local track crowns at his hometown Davenport Speedway and at Quad City Speedway as well. His Davenport title paid off with 15 bonus points, as Toland topped Luke Goedert of Guttenberg by an 800-797 margin for the national prize, worth a $5,500 share of the $21,300 point fund for the division. “When I won my first one in 2001 we were still kind of new to chasing points,” said Toland, at 54 the oldest driver to win an IMCA national championship. “It was different this year. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 at Stuart’s Night Before the Nationals

STUART, Iowa (Sept. 2) – A $1,000 check and a berth on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot are at stake at Stuart Speedway’s Sunday, Sept. 4 Night Before the Nationals special. Also on the card are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running for $700 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $500. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and Allstar Performance State points will be given. Pit gates open at 3 p.m., the grandstand opens at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing gets underway at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $4 for kids and free for five and under. Southern Oregon special boasts $5,000 prize for IMCA Modifieds

WHITE CITY, Ore. – The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner of Southern Oregon Speedway’s 21st annual Lon Skinner Memorial earns a hefty $5,000. The Sunday, Sept. 4 main event pays a minimum of $500 to each of the 24 starters and is a qualifier for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Modifieds also race for $600 to win in their Saturday, Sept. 3 feature. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods race for top checks of $400 on Saturday and $600 on Sunday. Early registration and practice is Friday, Sept. 2 at White City. Entry fee for the Modifieds is now $200 or $250 at the gate. Transponders are required and must be furnished by the driver. Hoosier tires, fuel and tearoffs will be available in the pits. Grandstand admission is $15 for Saturday, $20 for Sunday or $30 for a two-day pass. Pit passes are $35 a day or $60 for a two-day pass. Mighty Axe IMCA Modified wins go to Martini, Kendall

BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 26-27) – Eric Martini’s efforts to win the Mighty Axe Nationals took five years while Billy Kendall needed just seven minutes to race his way to the top step of the Modified podium at North Central Speedway. Martini topped Friday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner at Brainerd and earned $1,000, Kendall’s Saturday checkers were good for $1,200 and their wins landed both drivers on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Martini gained the Friday lead on the fifth of 25 laps, passing Erick Thiesse on the bottom and josh Beaulieu on the top. He led to the finish, holding off Don Eischens, Larry Zeller and Kendall in check following numerous restarts in the final laps. “I’ve called this the Elusive Axe for years. Oklahoma driver is wishing for sooner start to Super Nationals

HENNESSEY, Okla. – Social media has helped Hesston Shaw follow who’s won what at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s for the past two years. He hopes to give his Facebook friends plenty to talk about this September. The Hennessey, Okla., driver makes his first trip to Boone Speedway to experience the motorsports event everybody’s been telling him about since he started racing an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car two years ago. “When I moved up to the Stock Cars, I ordered a new Jet from Johnny Saathoff and everybody was talking about Super Nationals,” said Shaw. “The last two years I’ve kept up with it on Facebook. Super Nationals race of champions events bring bragging rights

BOONE, Iowa – A season’s worth of bragging rights will be on the line Saturday, Sept. 10, when race of champions winners take their turn on stage at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The winner of the 28th annual Harris Auto Racing Modified Race of Champions earns $1,000 while $500 is the top prize in the 16th annual Sunoco Race Fuels Race of Champions for Stock Cars. Both the BSB Manufacturing Race of Champions for Northern SportMods and Stephenville Starter Race of Champions for Hobby Stocks pay $300 to win. Those events will be held for the seventh time. SportMod and Hobby Stock ROC qualifying will be Tuesday, Sept. 6. Modified and Stock Car ROC qualifying is Friday, Sept. 9. Winebarger first in Fast Friday feature

(Aug. 26) – Friday saw a full house at Cottage Grove Speedway as the ¼-mile clay oval hosted the final Fast Friday of 2016 and all fans through the front gate got in for free. Eric Ashley was quick out of the box in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event. Ashley paced the field until around lap 16 when he was passed for the lead. The driver to make it around him was Collen Winebarger. Winebarger led the rest of the way to score his fifth win of 2016 at CGS. Ashley was a second followed by John Campos in third. Craig Hanson was fourth while finishing fifth was Jeff Lovell.

Osborn leads at Lexington

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (Aug. 28) – Colton Osborn got the best of his Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified foes on season championship night Sunday at Lexington Raceway. Osborn and Anthony Roth were in a see-saw battle during the early laps. Osborn was able to gain a little breathing room and never looked back to earn the main event victory. Roth was the runner-up while Scott Smith ended in third. Cole Egge finally punched through for a feature win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Egge has led the most laps in numerous features this season but it was on the final night of competition that that young gun was able to lead all of the circuits to capture his first win in the division after starting on the outside of the first row. Williamson is $1,000 winner at Willamette

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (Aug. 27) – Jesse Williamson’s first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win of the season at Willamette Speedway was worth $1,000. The opening laps of Saturday’s main event were pretty competitive but once Williamson got to the front he was remained there unchallenged. The victory landed him on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Schram Brothers Excavating ponied up the extra purse money.
