Eckrich outruns Deery pack for Marshalltown checkers

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 5) – After he kept the pack behind him, Andy Eckrich picked up the top check from Marshalltown Speedway’s Steve Priske Miller Lite 50 Deery Brothers Summer Series show. Eckrich led the last 48 of 50 laps in earning the $2,000 victory Tuesday night and pocketed another $400 in bonus money from Rumours Bar and Grill for winning his heat and the main event. “We got going pretty early but I figured the pack of wolves would be coming,” said Eckrich, who set sail after the final caution came out on the 14th circuit. “I got into traffic around lap 30 and with six to go caught up with four lapped cars that were racing hard. It took a while to get by them.” Point leader Justin Kay started 12th and chased Eckrich across the stripe, but didn’t get close enough to challenge. Todd Cooney, Jeff Aikey and Eckrich’s brother Denny completed the top five. The checkers were his Deery career eighth and first since opening night of the 2014 tour. Eckrich [Read More]

Densberger delivers at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (June 2) – Mike Densberger ended a too-long absence from victory lane at Eagle Raceway with Saturday’s Runner Freight IMCA Modified checkers. The fifth starting Densberger passed Mike Lineberry for second on lap three and grabbed the lead the next time around. Jordan Grabouski, who had to transfer through the ‘B’ feature took over fourth with four to go and vaulted into second after two more laps but didn’t have enough time to make a play for the front spot. “It’s been a long time, almost three years now. I knew there were a lot of fast cars behind me, so I wanted to get to the front and keep them behind me,” Densberger said. “It was a little rough tonight but after how much rain we got last night you couldn’t ask for a better track. We set the car up for it and she was a rocket tonight.” Shawn Harker won for the fourth time in five Purdue University IMCA Northern SportMod outings at Eagle this season, by [Read More]

Poll rides to Maquoketa IMCA Late Model checkers

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 2) – He glanced at the green light each time he drove down the back stretch and front stretch. Jon Poll did not want that green to change to yellow. He got his wish and the Bellevue driver rolled to the Andover Meat IMCA Late Model 25-lap feature win Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway. “Just hoping there wasn’t a caution for me,” Poll said. “I did one final adjustment before I climbed in and it paid off.” Poll started on the pole, dodged a few raindrops late and held off veteran Joe Ross, who stayed there the entire race. Eyes were on Andy Nezworski, who had the previous two wins. He started deep in the field and hit the top five by lap three. He jumped two spots on laps 12 and 13, but could climb no further. Jeff Larsen started again on the front row and again led all 20 laps to win his second straight QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified finale.
