IMCA Empire State Series returns to Thunder Mountain for Saturday show

CENTER LISLE, N.Y. – Round three of the Empire State Series for IMCA Modifieds brings the tour back to Thunder Mountain Speedway for a Saturday, July 15 event. The Farmer Insurance Night feature pays $750 to win with IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, Allstar Performance State and track points at stake as well. Pit gates at Center Lisle open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. There is no entry fee. Pit passes are $30 while spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students, and free for kids ages 10 and under. Southwest IMCA Dakota Tour checkers are third for Marriott

DICKINSON, N.D. (July 12) – Hunter Marriott raced to a couple firsts Wednesday night, en route to his third win of the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour for IMCA Modifieds. As a result, the defending champion is just three points out of the top spot in the point standings heading into the Thursday tour finale. Marriott caught Justin O’Brien for the lead, then withstood numerous challenges to the finish of the 30-lap main event at Southwest Speedway before picking up his latest $2,300 winner’s check. The ninth starting Marriott had raced three-wide with point leader Johnny Scott and O’Brien, follow­ing O’Brien into second and ultimately taking charge up front. He became the first driver since Jeff Taylor in 2014 to win back-to-back Dakota Tour Modified features, and the first since Taylor in 2012 to win three times in the same year. July 16 is deadline for 2017 point fund eligibility

VINTON, Iowa – All drivers competing at sanctioned events are required to purchase licenses to make themselves eligible for the benefits of IMCA membership. Those who have not yet purchased a 2017 license are affecting their eligibility to receive point fund shares. While licenses will be sold through the Duel In The Desert at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in November, drivers who fail to buy a license by Sunday, July 16 will not receive point fund money, or plaques and jackets should they be the top driver in state or track point standings. Licenses can be purchased by calling the IMCA home office at 319 472-2201.

URSS readies for Wheatshocker Nationals 

KAYS, Kan. – After a grueling four races in seven days, with three of those races held last week­end, United Rebel Sprint Series drivers will lock and load for the much-anticipated ninth annual Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., this Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16. Being one of the “Big Ones” of the year, look for many of the top Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers to be on hand vying for the $2,000 winners share on Sunday night. A customized Pit Boss Smoker Grille provided by Lance Pittman and S&W Supply in Hays will be awarded to the two-day overall point champion. Hunt paces Crystal IMCA Modified main

CRYSTAL, Mich. (July 8) – Jerry Hunt got the early lead in the Lane Automotive IMCA Modified main event and scored his first feature win of 2017 at Crystal Motor Speedway Saturday night. Brady Hollenbeck grabbed second place, followed by Chad Wernette and Cory Ruesink.

Ganoe takes PASS win at Selinsgrove 

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (July 9) – Kyle Ganoe was in the right place at the right time Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. Ganoe was running third in the Pennsylvania Sprint Series main event when frontrunners Austin Bishop and Tyler Reeser tangled on lap nine. Both were out for the night. Ganoe inherited the lead and stayed on the higher line to lead Jaremi Hanson across the stripe. Zach Newlin, Nathan Gramley and Dave Grube were the rest of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car top five. Williams wins URSS Night Four, Richards is Summer Sizzler champ

LEXINGTON, Neb. (July 9) – Ty Williams capped off Summer Sizzler Week with the United Rebel Sprint Series as he topped the Sunday feature at Lexington Raceway. With his eighth place finish, Terry Richards earned the $1,000 champion’s share of the four-race Summer Sizzler Tour. Williams, Steven Richardson, Darren Berry and Zach Blurton rounded out the top five in points and got checks for $700, $500, $300 and $200, respectively. Williams inherited the lead for a lap 13 restart. Second running Nick Nichols started putting pres­sure on Williams as Stuart Snyder moved into third. Nichols made a last-lap charge and got to Williams bumper coming off turn four but settled for runner-up and the best finish of his short IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car career as Snyder, Richard­son and Blurton completed the top five. Defending champions Marriott, Zevenbergen earn Dakota Tour repeat wins at Williston Basin

WILLISTON, N.D. (July 11) – Familiar faces were in a familiar place following Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour main events at Williston Basin Speedway. Defending champions Hunter Marriott and Elijah Zevenbergen became the first repeat winners of the 2017 tour on Tuesday night, Marriott in the IMCA Modified feature, Zevenbergen in the headliner for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Marriott started fifth and was quickly into the lead. Multiple cautions, however, prevented him from checking out. Marriott held off the 12th starting Justin O’Brien and Marlyn Seidler in leading all 30 laps for the $2,300 victory, his ninth in a 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. Jeff Taylor and 13th starting Johnny Scott completed the top five. Drivers from 11 states and Canada were represented in the starting grid. IMCA Modified Madness 50 at Davenport Speedway this Friday 

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The long-anticipated and twice re-scheduled IMCA Modified Madness 50 is up next at the Davenport Speedway this Friday, July 14. Drivers will be competing for the $2,000 first-place prize along with a 2017 Fast Shafts All-star Invitational ballot berth. This is the seventh straight year DRT TRAK Racing Inc. has offered a $2,000-to-win race for the IMCA Modifieds. Kyle Brown of Madrid is the defending champion race winner. Last year, 49 Modi­fied drivers representing four states competed. Also racing will be the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models, Koehler Electric Street Stocks, and the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods, competing for weekly track points. Wilinski shines at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (July 8) – Konnor Wilinski ended a season of frustrations with his first feature win of the year at Shawano Speedway in Saturday’s IMCA Modified feature. Shawn Frelich led early as Wilinksi tried to find a way past.  On lap four, Wilinski was able to get to the inside of Frelich entering lap three and made the pass for the lead. Marcus Yarie and Jerry Wilinski soon joined Konnor in the top three.  Driving the highest line on the track, Konnor Wilinski was too tough to beat and went on to win.  Yarie, Jerry Wilinski, Jason Czarapata, and Mark Weisnicht rounded out the top five. Kevin Bethke also broke through for his first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win of the year while Travis Van Straten scored his sixth IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature after having to come through the last-chance qualifier just to make the show.
