Deery Series heads to West Liberty for $5,000 to win Liberty 100 finale

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – The final Deery Brothers Summer Series checkers of the sea­son fly this weekend at West Liberty Raceway. The 21st annual Ideal Ready Mix Liberty 100 program is also the final event IMCA Late Model drivers can vie for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points. Time trials, qualifying races and a $1,000 to win race of champions are on the Friday, Sept. 22 card. Last-chance qualifying precedes the $5,000 to win, minimum $600 to win 100-lap main event on Saturday, Sept. 23. Season championship night at Arlington honors Schoknecht

ARLINGTON, Minn. – The Saturday, Sept. 23 season championship night program at Arlington Raceway will be in honor of Scott Schoknecht. Schoknecht, from Belle Plaine, was very instrumental in helping many drivers with his unselfish knowledge in setting up race cars. Friends have collected donations from almost 40 individuals and businesses to add to the purse for the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Both features will be $1,500 to win, $800 for second, $500 for third, $300 for fourth and $200 for fifth through 24th place. The Modified feature is a 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. After the race, four numbers will be drawn for finishing positions 5-24 and each of those spots will receive a total of $1,000. There will also be a $500 hard charger award in these two classes. Septemberfest at Beatrice features five IMCA divisions 

BEATRICE, Neb. – Five IMCA divisions are featured at Beatrice Speedway’s season-ending Septem­berfest special this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win their opening night qualifier, with the top four finishers locked into Satur­day’s $2,000 to win main event. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Na­tional, Jet Racing Central Region and Allstar Performance State points, as well as a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot bid, are at stake on Saturday. Restad IMCA Modified Memorial slated Saturday at Siskiyou

YREKA, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds race for $2,000 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for a top prize of $1,000 at Siskiyou Motor Speedway’s Saturday, Sept. 23 Rod Restad Memorial. The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The $100 entry fee for Modifieds and $85 for Northern SportMods includes car and driver. All applicable IMCA points will be awarded. Phillips shows the way to $10,000 World Nationals checkers

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Sept. 16) – Veteran Terry Phillips made his way to Marshalltown Speed­way from the Show Me State and showed his IMCA Modified expertise on the track, top­ping Saturday’s $10,000 to win World Nationals main event. Richie Gustin of Gilman gave Phillips a run for the big money when he took the lead on lap 21, only to have Phillips come right back and regain it on the next lap. From there on, Phillips put distance between himself and Gustin, and took the 50-lapper by a comforta­ble margin. Along with the big payday, the checkers put Phillips on the ballot for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Gustin had to be content with the runner-up spot. Cayden Carter of Oskaloosa started ninth and finished third, fourth was Chris Abelson of Sioux City and Joel Rust of Grundy Center rounded out the top five. By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – Each year, more than 200 drivers take part in at least some portion of Dodge City Raceway Park championship chase action with upwards of 100 or so possible on any given race night. With Saturday’s fifth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event set to bring the cur­tains down on 2017 DCRP title chases, this year is no exception with 208 drivers having already competed in at least one round of racing action. Getting a racecar to the track isn’t always an easy task.  Any number of factors can force any racer to miss a night at the track.  From the time of maintenance and the cost to do so, to work and family commitments, and to any other number of things that just go hand in hand with the overall life experience. Championship Night is Saturday at Canyon 

By Rowdy Briggs PEORIA, Ariz. – It has been a long season at Canyon Speedway Park but it all comes down to Championship Night Saturday in the four IMCA divisions that compete regularly at the Arizona speedplant. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMods and the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will be crowning their champions. Admission is $15 for adults. Seniors 60 and over and military are $12 and children 11 and under are free. All-access pit passes can be purchased for $35 for adults while kids ages 7-11 are $20 and 6 years and under are free. All minors under the age of 18 must have a minor release Form filled out and notarized prior to entry into the pits. The form can be found on the track’s www.canyonspeedwaypark.com website.

Stief takes MASS point lead to Grandview

By Erika Palmai Wagner BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. – Rick Stief inches closer to his first career Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series champion­ship with two races remaining on the 2017 schedule. Stief, a two-time feature winner this season, is the current point leader as MASS heads to Grandview Speedway this Friday, Sept. 15. DODGE CITY, Kan. – After two weeks off for drivers to compete in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Nationals and a weekend to regroup, the Myers Engine United Rebel Sprint Series will return to Dodge City Raceway Park for the fifth annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial this Saturday, Sept. 16.
