IMCA championship chase starts Friday at Lee County Speedway

DONNELLSON, Iowa ­– IMCA Sunoco Late Models and IMCA Modifieds both race for $1,000 to win in their next Drive For Five qualifier this Friday at Lee County Speedway. The June 25 feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier for the Modifieds. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are also on the card. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and over, $5 for students ages 11-17 and veterans, and free for kids 10 and under. Pit passes are $30, or $20 for kids ages 7-13, $10 for kids ages 4-6 and $5 for three and under.  The Friday show at Donnellson will be broadcast by DoneRight.TV.  The track website is www.leecountyspeedway.com. 

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 23, 2023) –  Dennis Woodworth won the headline race and Nicholas Profeta won for the first time Friday at Lee County Speedway. The 25-lap Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For 5 IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature took the green flag with Woodworth and Nick Marolf on the front row. Woodworth edged Marolf to lead lap one over Tommy Elston. While Woodworth worked the bottom of the track, Marolf work the top and used the momentum off the top of turn four to edge ahead on Woodworth on lap four. Marolf pulled away from Woodworth before encountering lapped traffic on lap 12. This allowed Woodworth to close back in. Woodworth used lapped traffic to slip back by Marolf for the top spot on lap 16, only to have Marolf get the lead back on the next lap. By Brian Neal  DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 12) – Jeff Waterman began his pursuit of another Lee County Speedway track title with the opening night IMCA Modified feature victory.  Friday’s 20-lap Budweiser IMCA Modified main saw Dennis LaVeine and Dakota Simmons draw the front row. LaVeine took advantage of his spot to jump out into the lead over Andrew Schroeder and Simmons.  Schroeder looked under LaVeine over the next five laps, before the first caution of the race appeared. On the restart, LaVeine jumped back out front with Waterman, who started ninth, coming from fifth to second.  While LaVeine worked the bottom of the track, Waterman used the top to try and wrestle the lead away. Coming off turn four on lap nine, Waterman used his momentum off the top to edge LaVeine at the line to take over the top spot.  Waterman maintained his advantage following a lap 10 restart as Schroeder and LaVeine battled for second.
