Dodge City sets June 14 practice to precede season opener

(June 16) – Jake Martens survived a wild last lap to pocket more than $4,000 by winning Saturday’s Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP vs. URSS 305 Sprint Car Nationals 30-lap championship feature at Dodge City Raceway Park. Martens took the lead away from Brian Herbert, then kept Chad Koch at bay before escaping a last-lap slider from Jake Bubak to pocket $4,040, an amount that included $1,040 in lap money along with the posted $3,000 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint car winner’s share. Martens raced to the stripe ahead of Koch and 15th starting Luke Cranston for the lucrative pay­day. By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Dodge City Raceway Park Sprint Car Nationals is expanding from two to three nights in 2019.  And with the June event rapidly approaching, entries are now being accepted for the upcoming third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service-sponsored event.  The $3,000-to-win IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car event that could potentially climb to as much as $4,500 with lap money included is set for June 13-15 atop the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas. The rapidly-evolving event includes the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars along with the United Rebel Sprint Series and Sprint Series of Oklahoma. DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 24) – The Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicked off its season atop the 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval of Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday. Twenty-one cars were in action for the season opener as Ty Williams claimed the victory. Williams and Connor Atkinson set the early pace for the 30-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event with some heat from Jeremy Huish and Luke Cranston. On lap three, Huish got past Atkinson and lap four saw Cranston passing Atkinson and Huish to take second.   Williams, Cranston, and Huish remained in the top three while defending URSS champion, Zach Blurton made his march forward from the 10th place starting position. Cranston pull several slide jobs on Williams only to have Williams cross under and continue to lead. Trouble for Cranston ensued on lap 13, ending his run for the evening. A restart saw Williams, Huish, Blurton, Atkinson, and Herbert sitting within the top five.
