Hanna, Becerra top opening night Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway. All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two. The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot. While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win. Keller dominates opening night at Dacotah Speedway

By Becca Pelkey MANDAN, N.D. (May 6, 2022) – Jeremy Keller led every time around the track in winning Friday’s opening night feature for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds at Dacotah Speedway. Shawn Strand and Keller led the field to the green flag for the 25-lap feature. Keller pulled away as Strand tried to hold off Spencer Wilson for second. A series of mid-race cautions regrouped the field which allowed Travis Hagen to make it a three-car battle for second. They sliced and diced for position on the track as defending track champion Quentin Kinzley lurked in fifth. Hagen passed Wilson for third and challenged Strand for second but when the checkered flag waved, came up short to second running Strand. Spencer Wilson finished fourth ahead of Kinzley. Defending track champion Stan Thompson led early in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Stan’s son Alex quickly reeled in his dad and they raced side-by-side for several laps. A Saturday of Sioux City winners at Park Jefferson

(May 7, 2022) – Buoyed by Cody Thompson claiming the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory to lead a top-four sweep, Sioux City was well-represented on the top finishers list on the Saturday, May 7, program at Park Jefferson International Speedway. Thompson led fellow Sioux Citians Bob Moore and R.J. Merchant and South Sioux City native Ricky Stephan among the local racers in the Modified main. David Miller and Tyler Smith kept the theme going with a one-two River City finish in IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.The remaining victors for a beautiful early May evening were Devon McMartin, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods; Elijah Zevenbergen, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; and Anthony Clark, Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Laney, Partain, Jernagan close IMCA Clash with wins at Merced

By Ben Deatherage MERCED, Calif. (May 7, 2022) – Cody Laney raced his way into the record book on the sixth and final night of the IMCA Central California Clash Saturday evening. Laney won a second straight Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Merced Speedway, and for the record fourth time in wrapping up the series crown. Opening salvos had Bobby Hogge go toe to toe with Troy Morris III, with Laney joining them to make it three-wide before the first circuit was scored. A pair of early cautions prevented Hogge from getting away from the rest of the pack and he’d trade a couple sliders with Laney before falling to second on lap five. Laney had a couple cautions to deal with himself but kept an even keel on both restarts and won ahead of Morris, Hogge, Jerry Flippo and Kyle Heckman. Four IMCA features each pay $1K at Stuart’s Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel

STUART, Iowa (May 10, 2022) – Drivers in four IMCA divisions are in the running for $1,000 top checks during a rare Monday show at Karl Chevrolet Stuart International Speedway. The May 16 Dynamic Drivelines Dirt Duel sees Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods contend in $1,000 to win features. Modified and Stock Car winners also earn Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility, respectively. Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the card. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded. BSB Manufacturing awarding $11,000-plus to IMCA weekly, special events competitors

WELLINGTON, Kan. (May 10, 2022) – IMCA drivers in seven divisions chase shares of more than $11,000 in contingency awards to be given again this season by BSB Manufacturing. The Wellington, Kan., high performance parts manufacturer and 14-year sponsor gives product certificates valued at $300, $200 and $100, respectively, to top three eligible drivers in each Friesen Performance IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock region, and in national standings for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMods. The Bullring is back in action May 15

VINTON, Iowa (May 10, 2022) – Increased purse money will be up for grabs Sunday, May 15 at Benton County Speedway. Billed as the Dirt Knights TV Special, five weekly divisions will compete on the quarter-mile Bullring for the second night of weekly points racing. A winner’s share of $750 will be on the line in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by KISS Country 96.5, while winners of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company will pocket $500 each. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will pay $300 to win and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts vie for $200 to win. Laney, Foulger, Bannister collect California Clash checkers at Merced

By Ben Deatherage MERCED, Calif. (May 6, 2022) – Night five of the IMCA Central California Clash saw Cody Laney put another $1,000 in his racing account. The Torrance standout won his third Friesen Performance IMCA Modified start of the week when the Clash shifted locations to Merced Speedway Friday evening. Ryan Porter paced the competition on the initial start and held down the front position being overtaken on lap five by Laney. A series of six stoppages slowed things down, but Laney, already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, kept his mount ahead of all challengers, equaling Ethan Dotson’s 2021 feat for the most wins in a single season with the series. Chadwick, Fraser, Robles come back for seconds at Antioch

By Don Martin II ANTIOCH, Calif. (May 7, 2022) – Kellen Chadwick won the 20-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Antioch Speedway. This was the second win of the season for Chadwick. Sean Wilson led the opening lap ahead of Bobby Motts Jr. before the yellow flag waved. On the restart, Terry DeCarlo Jr. made an impressive maneuver on the outside to gain the lead with brother Nick DeCarlo following him into second. DeCarlo Jr. led his younger brother on a lap three restart with Chadwick settling into third. Following the next yellow, DeCarlo Jr continued to lead with Chadwick moving into second on the lap six restart. Chadwick ultimately made an inside move on the backstretch on lap 17 to take over. Fans hail Hall Saturday at Eagle

Hall led from the first lap to the checkers in winning Saturday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod main event at Eagle Raceway. “We didn’t have a very good showing the first night so we went back to the drawing board. We had two weeks to do it because we got rained out again last week,” he said from victory lane. “So we spent those two weeks going over the car and found some things here and there that needed to be changed. It was pretty good tonight.” Ryan Arbogast and Gary Saathoff rounded out the top three.
