CJ Speedway opens with large field of racers

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 6, 2022) – After three consecutive rain outs the 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Race season finally got underway at CJ Speedway on the Louisa County Fairgrounds. A large field of drivers took part in the season opener. The final checkered flag of the night flew when the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds completed their main event with Dunkerton, Iowa ace Troy Cordes, making the two hour drive to Columbus Junction pay off by recording the win. Cordes started in the seventh position and steadily worked his way to the front, taking over the top spot from Jarrett Brown. Cordes led half of the 16 laps and took the checkers ahead of a fast-closing Maguire DeJong, who had started in the sixth row. Brown held on to finish third ahead of Kyle Montgomery. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never fail to delight the fans with great racing and the opening night feature was certainly no exception. IMCA Modifieds are Florida bound for 2023 Speedweek

BAKER, Fla. (May 6, 2022) – Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers can start making plans for a Florida vacation early in 2023. The inaugural Clash on the Coast opens with Feb. 27 and 28 features at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, then travels to Southern Raceway in Milton for March 3 and 4 shows. All four main events pay $1,000 to win, $900 for second, $800 for third, $700 for fourth and $600 for fifth. Nightly purses total $7,500 with a minimum of $100 to start. Drivers competing all four nights are eligible for shares of a $10,000 point fund. The top driver in points earns $2,500 with $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third. Monumental IMCA Rushmore State Wide Open Tour travels to Wagner, Park Jefferson, New Raceway Park

WAGNER, S.D. (May 6, 2022) – A monumental tour for five IMCA divisions is in the works at three South Dakota speedplants. Opening night Friday, May 13 for the Rushmore State Wide Open Tour is at Wagner Speedway with the Saturday, May 14 show at Park Jefferson Speedway and the Sunday, May 15 finale at The New Raceway Park. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both race for $1,000 to win, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks both for $400 to win and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts for $200 to win each night. Foulger brews up Thunderbowl Central California Clash win

TULARE, Calif. (May 5) – Troy Foulger delivered an impressive Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win on night four of the Central California Clash Thursday at Thunderbowl Raceway. The Oakley speedster led all 25 laps to earn the $1,000 checkers along with Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. The race stayed green following a lap three caution as Foulger did his best to host Jake Pike at Bay. “I had only made a few starts before at Tulare,” said Foulger, fifth in Wednesday’s Clash main event at Thunderbowl, “so we made driving style changes and not didn’t a lot of setup changes. The bottom line was real good. TULARE, Calif. Laney rules Central California Clash night two at Keller

By Ben Deatherage HANFORD, Calif. (May 3, 2022) – Cody Laney reigned in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, on night two of the Central California Clash at Keller Auto Speedway. Racing like he was shot out of a cannon, Laney was flawless on each of the long green flag runs punctuated by five stoppages Tuesday night. After the third restart, he was joined at the front by Monday night winner Bobby Hogge. Hogge tried to overtake Laney once the field got going, but the leader kept him in check. The last two cautions came with just a couple of laps to go, setting up a green, white, checkered finish. Hogge had his hands full with Dalton Houghton, which allowed Laney to set sail from the rest of the pack and take the $1,000 win. Sites on target in NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series opener at Skyline

(April 30, 2022) – After a solid season in 2021, the off-season was not kind to Eddie Sites and his brother, Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by Precision Hydraulic & Oil defending champion Brad Sites. On Feb. 13th, their race shop burned to the ground, causing them to lose much of their racing organization. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and their cars were able to be salvaged. Hogge opens Central California Clash with victory at Hanford

(May 2, 2022) – A veteran and a youngster ran 1-2 in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Keller Auto Speedway Monday, opening night of the Central California Clash. Bobby Hogge cruised to the $1,000 checkers for his fourth win of the season and career 98th in the division while Jake Pike, the Shaw Race Cars Western Region rookie of the year just three years ago, navigated his way to runner-up honors. The main event began with a great battle between Troy Foulger and Hogge, champion of the 2020 version of the now rebranded Speedweek. Foulger had the initial advantage coming across the stripe, but that lap was negated due to caution. On the second attempt, it was Hogge leading the charge. Hogge had no real issues at the point as he piloted the Paul Guglielmoni-fielded entry around the track.
