Spahr grabs first IMCA RaceSaver win

By Frank Buhrman & Stephanie Dodson SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Aug. 27, 2022) – After a couple of close-but-not-quite finishes at Selinsgrove Speedway, Logan Spahr was due, and the second-year Pennsylvania Sprint Series driver collected that debt Saturday night by scoring his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory Saturday after a torrid duel with veteran Doug Dodson. Spahr took the lead from Tyler Snook on lap three after some side-by-side racing. Then, after a red flag for an incident involving Mike Melair, Austin Reed, and Justin Mills on the front stretch, Spahr lost the lead to Dodson, who had charged from eighth starting. Undaunted, Spahr went after Dodson and the two swapped the lead back and forth until Spahr adjusted his line to take away Dodson’s preferred line. With the race staying green for the last 17 circuits of the 20-lapper, traffic also became a factor, but Spahr handled that situation like a seasoned veteran. His victory margin over Dodson was about 10 car lengths. In victory lane, Spahr said he had not expected a win so [Read More]

Season championship night at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 26, 2022) – It was North 3rd Avenue Dairy Queen Larry Wollam Memorial and Season Championship night at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday.  Seven classes were in competition that provided a full night of racing action at the High Banks. There were out-of-car introductions of the drivers on the front stretch to allow the fans to show their appreciation to the drivers who entertained them all year long. The first eight in points in each class were locked in and they would start inverted for their feature. The rest of the field was filled in by their finishing order from heats. The first feature to hit the track was the IMCA STARS Mod Lites. Their feature went 15 laps and was led from start to finish by Cory Sonner. He started from the pole position and rocketed off immediately as he pulled away from the field.  He finished well ahead of second place Ben George.  Trailing a distant third was 10th place starter Jason Masengarb. Fourth place was Randy [Read More]

(Aug. 26, 2022) – Seven hundred dollars awaited the winner in Friday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature at Outagamie Speedway and it was Jordan Jahnke jumping to the lead early on until Ryan Schmidt raced from row eight and to the lead on lap three. Cory Kemkes stayed in the title fight with second place finish, Janke took third, Matthew Radtke took fourth and Chris Kuchta rounded out the top five. Marathon man Ryland wins long race to checkers at Dwayne Melvin Clash

MEDFORD, Ore. (Aug. 20, 2022) – His off-track training regimen had Fred Ryland in shape for Saturday’s Dwayne Melvin Clash.  Ryland started on the pole and led the distance in the 69-lap marathon for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods at Southern Oregon Speedway.  “Luckily I hike and run a little bit. That really helped a lot,” the Brentwood, Calif., speedster said following the career-topping $3,000 payday. “It was hot and we spent a lot of time in the car on Saturday. We drank a lot of water when we could.” The Clash, stopped at lap 30 for a fuel-only break, was the longest on Ryland’s career by 19 laps. “The cautions were spread out just right and kept us from getting into too much lapped traffic, and I was able to pull away some on the restarts,” he said. “Ryan Peery challenged on the outside. I just did my thing and kept hugging the bottom.”  Fellow Californians Peery, Tyler Rodgers and Kenny Shrader finished two, three, four. Hard charger and hometown hotshoe Mike Medel was [Read More]
