Thunderhill Raceway drivers’ meeting is Friday, Dec. 13

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Thunderhill Raceway will hold a drivers’ meeting on Friday, Dec, 13 at The Draft Haus Sports Bar beginning at 7 p.m. Promoter Woody Wodack will have Sonny’s Pizza on hand along with snacks. We are looking for everyone’s input as we plan to make 2014 the best season yet. Lots of big news regarding several track improvements and possible contingencies. We ask pit spots be paid before or at the meeting. Any pit stalls that remain unpaid or open will then go to a lottery of drivers who want to purchase them. Front row spots $100, with second and third rows being $50. The 2014 Street Stock rules will be up for discussion. Several other items will be addressed at the meeting include schedule, pit pass costs and general track rules. Champions, top rookies honored at Antioch banquet

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Nov. 23) – Driver Troy Foulger was honored for an unprecedented fourth straight championship at the 2013 Antioch Speedway awards banquet. Champions and rookies of the year in the speedway’s weekly divisions were applauded at the Contra Costa Fairgrounds on Saturday night (11/23). Foulger, 22, who drove a car owned by Billy Bowers, scored five wins and 13 top five finishes in the highly competitive IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division. He heads to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to be honored by the organization. Foulger praised the work of Bowers and his crew. “They worked on the cars every night of the week, all season long,” said Foulger. “We sometimes raced both cars, back to back, and it isn’t easy to maintain and race two cars. LINCOLN, Neb. (Nov. 30) – A record number of champions took home a record amount of point fund and bonus money from the IMCA national awards banquet, held Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. The 2013 national champions were William Gould, IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds; Justin Kay, IMCA Late Models; John Ricketts, IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars; Brandon Czarapata, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars; Devin Smith, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks; Matt Looft, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods; Gabe Tucker, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods; and Ramsey Meyer, Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Top four finishers at Duel pass tire test

VINTON, Iowa – Tire samples taken from top four finishers in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event at the Duel In The Desert revealed no use of any foreign substance(s). It’s the second year samples were taken and submitted to a testing laboratory following the special at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Samples from 2012 were also found to comply within the baseline for chemical composition of the Hoosier G-60s. “We used this facility throughout 2013 and will do so again in 2014,” promised IMCA Vice President of Operations Brett Root. “We are very confident in the capabilities of this facility to detect foreign substances and will use them throughout 2014 in conjunction with the normal inspection process at local tracks and special events.” A grooving iron is used to take samples from the tires. First IMCA sanctions in Montana are at Electric City, Billings

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA will sanction its first tracks in Montana next season. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds will run Friday nights at Electric City Speedway in Great Falls and Saturdays at Billings Motorsports Park. Both venues will be part of the Larry Shaw Racing Western Region. Electric City is a 3/10-mile high-banked clay oval in north central Montana; Billings, located some 220 miles to the south, is a 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval and will be designated as a border track, meaning Modified drivers from North and South Dakota can race there for home region points. Both tracks previously sanctioned their Modified divisions with WISSOTA, Electric City since 1990 and Billings for the past two seasons. “We’ve been talking to IMCA for 12 years, maybe longer. Their rules, and the cost of racing influenced our decision,” said Electric City promoter Dan Mann. “Our economy hasn’t progressed the way engine costs have. 2013 IMCA point fund is record $593,791

VINTON, Iowa – A record $593,791 in point funds will be paid to IMCA drivers, based on national, regional, special series and local track standings, this season. That’s approximately $33,000 more than last year. “Point fund amounts are based on the number of sanctioned tracks, the number of licensed members and the number of drivers racing at 50 percent or more of the sanctioned events at their local track or tracks,” explained IMCA Director of Points and Membership Virginia Lindsey. “The 2013 point fund speaks to the loyalty of our members,” she added. Individual point fund amounts are published in the November Inside IMCA newsletter. Point fund checks will be presented to all drivers attending the Nov. 30 national awards banquet. Checks will be mailed beginning the following week to drivers not in attendance that evening.

Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidates number 75 with influx of state champions

Wendt earns LVMS Duel Best Appearing Car honors

By Ryan Clark WILLISTON, N.D. – Although he didn’t experience much success on the track, Darin Wendt left the Duel In The Desert with some extra green in his pocket. The third-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver from Williston, N.D., won Best Appearing Car honors in the Las Vegas-themed contest at the dirt track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, taking home the $500 top prize in the process. In addition to the cash courtesy of XSAN, Wendt walked away with a trophy and new RACEceiver. Wells Design of Ogallala, Neb., also paid for his 2014 Modified membership license. Wendt spent just 22 nights behind the wheel of his race car this season prior to his trip to Las Vegas. Belleville Motorsports earns 4th IMCA Manufacturers’ Cup title

BELLEVILLE, Kan. – Belleville Motorsports won its fourth title in the five-year history of the IMCA Manufacturers’ Cup program this season. The Belleville, Kan., chassis builder had the top point total among the record 24 manufacturers entered in the 2013 contest and will receive a $500 cash prize and trophy during the IMCA national awards banquet on Nov. 30 in Lincoln, Neb. Points were awarded to 15 different manufacturers based on top 10 drivers in each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions (10 points for first, nine points for second, etc.). Points from each of region were then combined to determine a national manufacturer of the year. IMCA to honor 40 tracks with sanction awards at national banquet

LINCOLN, Neb. – Forty tracks will be honored with sanction awards during the national IMCA banquet on Saturday, Nov. 30 in Lincoln, Neb. Marshalltown Speedway will be recognized with a 30 consecutive year award for Stock Cars. Tracks receiving 25 consecutive year plaques are Arlington Raceway for Modifieds, Sprint Cars and Stock Cars; the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway and Shawano Speedway for Modifieds; and Jackson Speedway for Stock Cars. Awards for sanctioning 20 consecutive seasons go to Abilene Speedway, Beatrice Speedway, Dawson County Raceway and U.S. 30 Speedway for Modifieds and Independence Motor Speedway and Luxemburg Speedway for Stock Cars. Aztec Speedway and Salina Speedway receive plaques for 20 total years of sanctioning their Modifieds with IMCA.
