Cleveland, Crompe top IMCA Modified mains at Santa Maria Spring Nationals

SANTA MARIA, Calif. (May 23-24) – Duane Cleveland led every lap on Saturday, Christopher Crompe got the lead back on the last lap Sunday and both drivers earned $1,200 for their IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature wins at Santa Maria Raceway’s Budweiser Spring Nationals. Cleveland made the long tow from northern California worth his while, starting from the pole and avoiding a late-race hiccup when a lapped car got sideways just ahead of him. Josh Vogt made up ground as Cleveland ran in traffic but had to settle for second. Roger Holder completed the top three finishers on opening night. Kay becomes first to repeat with Deery checkers at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (May 25) – Justin Kay became the first repeat winner this season in the Deery Brothers Summer Series, on the night Richie Gustin nearly raced to his first IMCA Late Model tour victory. Gustin caught the defending series champ on the white flag lap Monday at Boone Speedway and had the edge as the front pair charged down the backstretch. The yellow flag was thrown for a spun car in the upcoming set of turns, however, and Kay got the front spot back for the restart as the leader of the last scored lap. Jeff Aikey caught Gustin for second but couldn’t challenge Kay, who topped the green, white, checkered finish by two car lengths. The $3,000 win was the series career 11th for Kay, who also banked the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing prize. Tyler Droste and Ray Guss Jr. completed the top five and point leader Andy Nezworski ended in sixth. Memorial Day Hawkeye Dirt Tour show canceled

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 25) – The Memorial Day IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour event at I-35 Speedway has been canceled due to the weekend of wet weather. Up next in the series for touring IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds is the Tuesday, June 9 show at Jackson County Speedway. The Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models is also at Maquoketa that evening.

Sites wins, Fleming is second after early Empire State Series spin at Black Rock

By Steven Ovens DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 22) – With increased pay on the line, Eddie Sites made the most of his run Friday night to pick up the Empire State Series checkers at Black Rock Speedway. The two-time IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified tour champion led the last 11 of 25 circuits in earning $500, plus lap money, and his career seventh series victory. Chris Fleming, another former Empire State Series champion, set the fast pace the first three laps, restarted at the back of the field and charged through the field to finish second. Fleming and rookie Sparky Hills brought the field to the green flag. Fleming led before very uncharacteristically spinning in turn three but heads-up driving allowed the 23-car field to avoid him. Battle Mountain hosts May 30 Iturriaga Memorial for IMCA Modifieds

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – Battle Mountain Raceway hosts its second annual Iturriaga NAPA Memorial special this Saturday, May 30. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds race for $1,000 to win and a spot on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and local track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. All drivers must check in at the pit window by 7 p.m.; racing follows the 7:15 p.m. drivers’ meeting. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students ages 6-18, and free for kids five and under when accompanying a paying adult or senior. Skip Rose Memorial, Reinhart Memorial both rescheduled

MASON CITY, Iowa (May 24) – Two more IMCA specials scheduled for tonight (Sunday) have been rescheduled due to inclement weather. I-35 Speedway in Mason City will hold its Skip Rose Memorial, headlined by IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds running for $1,000 to win in their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, next Sunday, May 31. Monday’s IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour event is still on as scheduled at I-35. Another All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event, the Gary Reinhart Memorial at Quad City Speedway in East Moline, Ill., has been postponed to Sunday, June 7. Weekly shows at Dubuque Speedway and Benton County Speedway were also kayoed by rain. IMCA Late Models will be added to the May 31 program at Vinton.

IMCA Southern SportMods go topless in $5,000 to win event at Route 66 on May 30

AMARILLO, Texas (May 24) – A top prize of $5,000 is on the line for Route 66 Motor Speedway’s Saturday, May 30 topless special for Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods. Twenty cars will take the green flag for the main event, with $2,500 paid for second, $1,500 for third and $1,000 for fourth. Minimum start money is $200. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points, but no local track points will be given. Entry fee is $100. Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. on race day. Hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15. Pit passes are $30. STUART, Iowa (May 24) – Tonight’s Ron Little/Bones Memorial for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Stuart Speedway has been rescheduled due to inclement weather to Sunday, June 14. Modifieds chase a $1,000 check at the 15th annual event. If not already vote eligible, the winner becomes a ballot candidate for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Droste takes IMCA Modified Madness cash at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 22) – The IMCA Modified Madness 50 was the big show Friday night at Davenport Speedway. When the checkered flag fell, the spotlight was on Tyler Droste. Making his first visit to Davenport with an IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, Droste topped the $2,000 to win feature after swapping the lead and a little paint with Milo Veloz. “There were a lot of good cars here and a lot of very good drivers in the feature,” said Droste. “It helped having been here once before this year (in a Late Model) because every track is just a little bit different.” The main event started with 2012 race winner Veloz on the pole. Veloz jumped out to the early race lead but was in and out of first before Droste took over for good on the 46th of 50 circuits. Reeser picks up PASS win at Williams Grove

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (May 22) – Tyler Reeser picked up his first-ever Williams Grove Pennsylvania Sprint Series win Friday night, in a race complete with three-wide action for the lead. The IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature took several tries to get started as first-lap incidents slowed competition. Reeser took the lead following one of those restarts. Reeser then took the lead and was in command as Zach Newlin and 10th starting Daren Miller closed in. The trio was in a close race when the rookie Miller took the lead from Newlin and Reeser. The race ended as it began with several restarts and as tires wore down. Miller was unable to dominate and Reeser again took the lead.
