Deadline is Friday, Aug. 21 to request RaceSaver® rule no. 5 repair authorization

RaceSaver® wants our technical staff to be aware of issues that pertain to engine rule no. 5 and we ask for their help and cooperation in resolving these issues.  5: Only an iron or steel crankshaft, with a minimum weight of 48 lbs. will be permitted, (-1%). The main bearing diameter will be 2.450 (-.030). Weight added to crank except balance metal, which must be welded in place, will not be permitted.  In an effort to identify those non-compliant engines and bring them into compliance, RaceSaver® offered a grace period of 90 days for engines that are identified as possibly containing non-conforming, but legal weight crankshafts. RaceSaver® will issue a repair authorization number to allow steel to be added to the crankshaft to bring it to 48 pounds. In these instances, the 1% tolerance will not be allowed. The crankshaft must be weighed before and after adding the weight. A photo of the completed repair to the crank will be submitted by email with the tech form. The engine must be brought into compliance within the [Read More]

Mather takes Cedar County win, Brown is new Hawkeye Dirt Tour point leader

TIPTON, Iowa (Aug. 11) – Colt Mather became the seventh different winner in as many different Hawkeye Dirt Tour events Tuesday night while Kyle Brown became the new point leader with one race left in the series for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. Mather started outside the front row and led all 30 laps of the Cedar County Raceway show. The only caution came out on the third circuit. Justin Kay, who would go on to win the Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model main event later in the program, closed the gap on Mather but finished a car length off the pace. Mather’s win paid $1,000 and put him on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Mitchell Morris, Brad Dierks and Mike Burbridge completed the top five. Brown, meanwhile, was the final qualifier for the main event field. He started 22nd and ended in seventh. Mike Van Genderen led Brown by one point going into the night and finished 12th at Tipton. Four points will be the difference between the two in the [Read More]

Kay continues Deery dominance with Cedar County checkers

TIPTON, Iowa (Aug. 11) – Justin Kay nearly had two trophies to show for his Tuesday night efforts at Cedar County Raceway. Kay won his sixth Deery Brothers Summer Series feature of the season, adding to his lead in the IMCA Late Model tour point standings. He’d run second in the Hawkeye Dirt Tour feature for Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds earlier in the evening. Dan Shelliam started outside row two in the 50 lap Deery Series main event and led the first 14 times around the Tipton oval. The third starting Kay drove by the next time around and was not challenged. Restarts at midway and on lap 39 took out lapped traffic and Kay’s margin of victory was most of 10 car lengths. The victory was Kay’s career 15th and paid $3,000. Shelliam matched his career best finish in second – he’d also been runner-up to Kay at Jackson County Speedway on June 9 – and Ray Guss Jr. was third. Kevin Kile was fourth. Richie Gustin caught Scott Fitzpatrick for fifth with two laps [Read More]

Barr wins at Abilene for career first SST victory

ABILENE, Texas (Aug. 8) – Even after Adam Barr won his Saturday night Sprint Series of Texas heat at Abilene Speedway, crew chief Josh Freeman saw room for improvement. Some tinkering produced a second place finish in the dash. Barr then went out and promptly won the 20-lap main event, his career-first SST victory. “It was amazing,” Barr said following the IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car triumph. “To be able to pull something like this off against this level of competition was an honor, and something I’ll always cherish.” Barr started outside row four and was up to second just before a lap nine yellow. He passed Craig Woods for the lead just after midway and held off Jerry Hammock and Dustin Woods for the victory following a couple late restarts. Friday night winner Jason Howell was fourth and Michelle Melton completed the top five. Feature results – 1. Adam Barr; 2. Jerry Hammock; 3. Dustin Woods; 4. Jason Howell; 5. Michelle Melton; 6. Howell best at Boyd again in Sprint Series of Texas show

BOYD, Texas (Aug. 7) – To absolutely no one’s surprise, Jason Howell was happy to see the Sprint Series of Texas pay a return visit Friday to Boyd Raceway. Howell motored from 10th starting to win his third IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour event of the season. The defending champion had also taken the checkers when the SST opened at his “home track” back in April. “I took the outside line to get to the front and passed teammate Danny Merrell on the bottom to take the lead about midway,” said Howell. “Luckily, there was enough room for me down there.” Merrell ended as the runner-up, close enough to keep Howell from feeling comfortable as the 20-lapper wound down. “I felt like second place was right behind me,” Howell admitted. “I ran like a dog with it’s tail stuck between his legs.” Cody Whitworth was third and Michelle Melton took fourth. Point leader Dustin Woods, another teammate of Howell’s, borrowed his father’s car and finished fifth after engine problems during hot laps. Feature results [Read More]

Big Eagle jets to first night Can-Am checkers

WILLISTON, N.D. (Aug. 7-8) – Jett Big Eagle wasn’t quite sure on the date of his career first Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature win. You can bet he won’t forget the date of his second. The 15-year-old from Manor, Sask., started on the pole and led every lap of Williston Basin Speedway’s Can-Am Shootout opening night main event on Friday. He held off older brother Masen for the $1,200 checkers and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth. “Masen got close on that last lap but I was able to close the door on him,” said Big Eagle, pumped at the prospect of being elected to the 2016 All-Star field. “It was great to get this win with him second and my other teammate, Joey Galloway, third.” The only caution of the 25-lap contest flew on the opening circuit. Big Eagle was slowed by lapped traffic but still beat his brother across the stripe by about a car length. “I got the better of him coming out of the final turn,” said Big Eagle, who’d [Read More]

Shryock scores abbreviated All Star Night win at Britt

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 8) – The rainbow stretching over the backstretch at Hancock County Speedway led Kelly Shryock to an $8,800 jackpot. After starting deep in the field in Thursday and Friday features at Britt, Shryock led every lap of Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified All Star Night feature shortened from 50 to 36 circuits because of rain and slick track conditions. Mark Elliott started ninth and found the fastest line up top. He had closed on Shryock before the sudden checkers flew. Kyle Brown, Benji LaCrosse and Hunter Marriott followed the front pair across the stripe. Shryock earned $4,000 for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win, plus $2,800 in lap money and a $2,000 bonus for having raced at least eight times previously this season at Hancock County. “We’ve been trying to win here all year and finally got it done on a big night,” said Shryock, who agreed with the decision by track officials to call the race early. “It was a handful out there. Ruter reels in LaCrosse for Night of 10,000 Stars honors

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 7) – The stars aligned Friday night at Hancock County Speedway for Ryan Ruter. Ruter passed Benji LaCrosse with 10 laps left in the Night of 10,000 Stars main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, then stayed in front to the finish for a $9,000 payday. LaCrosse, the 2013 race winner and last year’s runner-up, led most of the 50-lapper before getting caught behind a lapped car in the second set of turns. Ruter shot to the lower line for the lead, then pulled away in traffic. “Benji had about a half a straightaway lead when I saw him move up. I followed him to the higher line and started making up ground,” said Ruter, who’d run second to another Wisconsin hotshoe, Mike Mullen, in Thursday’s Night of 1,000 Stars at Britt. “It wasn’t that Benji made a mistake. He was just in the wrong lane at the wrong time,” Ruter continued. “I had an opportunity and I capitalized on it.” Forty cars representing nine states started the feature, which saw [Read More]

Mullen cashes in at Night of 1,000 Stars

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 6) – Another big Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified event ended with Mike Mullen’s name on the Pay To The Order Of line of another big check. Mullen worked his way up from 15th starting and took the lead from Jesse Hoeft following the mandatory pit stop at midway, then led the last 25 laps of Hancock County Speedway’s Night of 1,000 Stars special. Including lap money, the victory was worth $4,750 to Mullen. He’d recently cashed in to the tune of $10,000 at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek. “I laid back the first 10 laps or so and thought the bottom would be the place to be,” said Mullen, new to the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “About 20 laps in I decided the high side was where I needed to be with my car.” Ryan Ruter raced from 21st starting to second, pulling to Mullen’s back bumper before finishing three car lengths off the pace. Kyle Strickler started 10th and finished third and giving up the runner-up position to Ruter with [Read More]
