Gould nears 100 IMCA Modified career wins with Ice Breaker sweep

ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 17-18) – William Gould had planned to crew for teammate Matt Guillaume at Abilene Speedway’s season-opening Ice Breaker. He borrowed an engine from Guillaume instead and raced to $700 IMCA Modified checkers Friday and Saturday night, upping his career win total in the division to 98. “Normally when I go to Abilene I run up front or I break,” Gould said. “The track was fast both nights and the preferred lane was on the bottom.” Gould started fourth on opening night and had the lead three circuits into the 20-lapper. CRSA announces 22 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint dates in New York, Pennsylvania

By Curtis Berleue SODUS, N.Y. – The CRSA Sprints presented by Super Gen Products with Champion Power Equipment are proud to announce their tentative 2017 schedule. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour has 22 race nights slated, and another three dates to be announced. The standard purse sees a minimum of $325 paid to win and $140 to start. National and New York or Pennsylvania state points will be awarded for CRSA events through Sept. 22. The first-ever Allstar Performance State Champion New York state champion will be crowned in the IMCA RaceSaver division this season. The traditional kick-off of the 2017 season will once again be at the New York State Fairgrounds for the 31st annual Gater News Motorsports Exposition and Trade Show on Saturday and Sunday March 12 and 13. Spring Kick-Off set this weekend at Kennedale Speedway Park

KENNEDALE, Texas – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars race for $1,000 to win on opening night of the Feb. 25-26 Spring Kick-Off special at Kennedale Speedway Park. Saturday’s main event for the Sprints pays a minimum of $150 to start. Running Saturday and Sunday nights are IMCA Modifieds for $500 to win and $75 to start and both IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods for $400 to win and $60 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Modified and Stock Car regional and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday. IMCA Modifieds chase $3,000 payday at Canyon’s Desert Classic

PEORIA, Ariz. – Their top check is $3,000 and IMCA Modified drivers also run for a spot on the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot at Canyon Speedway Park’s Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25 Desert Classic. The Modified main event is 40 laps and pays $1,500 for second and a minimum of $125 to start. Friday’s 25-lap qualifier pays $600 to win and a minimum of $75 to start, with the top eight redrawing for starting spots in the big show. Entry fee is $150 for the weekend or $200 for Saturday only. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods will race for regular weekly purses both nights. Marriott takes Arizona IMCA Modified Tour finale, crown at Canyon Speedway Park

(Feb. 17) – Hunter Marriott claimed the inaugural Arizona IMCA Modified Tour championship in style Friday night as he topped a 29-car field to win the 25-lap series finale. Marriott drove his way from the fourth starting position to capture his first $1,250 feature win of the tour. He was already on the ballot for the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I really liked the car. We had some good runs and we’ve been trying hard all week. The races and tracks have been tough but we prevailed on this one,” said Marriott in victory lane. “I’m just thankful to be here.” Marriott used the second attempt at a lap nine restart to drive around the outside of Curt Lund to take the lead down the back straightaway. (Feb. 16) – The outstanding parity of the inaugural Arizona IMCA Modified Tour continued Thursday at Canyon Speedway Park as Spencer Wilson became the fifth different winner in as many nights. Seventy-one IMCA Modifieds were checked in for the first of two nights at the Peoria, Ariz. one-third mile dirt oval. Wilson netted $1,250 for the victory along with spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. After getting by Ryan Roath on lap two, Wilson took command of the race lead and set sail. At the midpoint of the race, Wilson had amassed a three second advantage over second-running Jimmy Gustin and looked to have the race in hand. However, Wilson encountered heavy traffic in the latter stages of the race, which allowed Gustin to erase Wilson’s huge lead in a matter of a few laps. Schott sails to IMCA Modified tour win at Arizona Speedway

(Feb. 14) – Lucas Schott found victory lane Tuesday at Arizona Speedway to become the fourth different Modified winner in as many nights of the inaugural Arizona IMCA Modified Tour. Front row starter Troy Gemmill shot out to a comfortable advantage and looked as though he had the car to beat early on. The first caution fell on lap seven and Schott put pressure on Gemmill as the pack charged into turn one on the restart. On the following circuit, Schott completed a big slide job on Gemmill in turn two to momentarily take the lead, but Gemmill countered with a crossover move to regain the point. Lap nine proved to be disastrous for Gemmill as his no. 721 machine slowed to a stop. As a result, Schott inherited the lead for the ensuing restart. IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour has Memorial Day opener, new title sponsor in Arnold Motor Supply

VINTON, Iowa (Feb. 8) – IMCA’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour will have a new title sponsor when the series opens on Memorial Day at Benton County Speedway. Arnold Motor Supply has signed on as sponsor of the eighth annual Modified tour and will provide a portion of $5,650 point funds to be paid each of the next three seasons. The champion takes home $1,000 along with a Traeger Lil’ Tex Elite Pellet Grill, valued at $700, courtesy of Arnold Motor Supply, the Spencer-based auto parts supplier. Sport Compacts have first IMCA national decal program, Big Daddy, Summit both have new Hobby Stock roles

VINTON, Iowa – IMCA’s Sport Compact division has a national decal program of its own beginning this season while Big Daddy Race Cars and Summit Racing Equipment both have new roles in backing the Hobby Stocks starting in 2017. While Sport Compact drivers have been receiving decal packets, this season will be the first where they are required to provide proof of decal placement to become eligible for national point fund shares. In addition to Speedway Motors and division title sponsor Mach-1, Sport Compact drivers must display Karl Performance and DynaBatt and Screamin’ Demon – both Performance Distributors brands – decals. “All these decals were sent to Sport Compact drivers last year but this season will be the first where they have a specific location to put them on their race car,” IMCA Marketing Director Kevin Yoder noted. “Hopefully this will alleviate the number of questions drivers have had about decal placement. Only rain can slow Stone in postponed race to Arizona Modified Tour checkers

YUMA, Ariz. (Feb. 11-12) – Paul Stone considered asking to keep the one spoon as a souvenir after drawing the pole start for the second installment of the Arizona IMCA Modified Tour. After inclement weather postponed the main event from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon, Stone had two better mementos: A trophy and a check for $1,250.
