Disqualification leads to Kay’s career 22nd Deery Series win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 6) – Justin Kay won for the 22nd time in his Deery Brothers Sum­mer Series career Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway.

The victory came in unique fashion for Kay, who was awarded the top spot when apparent winner Jer­emiah Hurst was disqualified in post-race tech after a failed rear end inspection.

John Emerson became runner-up and IMCA Late Model tour point leader Jesse Sobbing was third after starting 15th. Jeff Aikey and Jake Neal completed the top five.

Neal had led the first half of the 50-lapper before giving way to Hurst. The last caution of the race came on lap 48.

Kay is now tied with Gary Webb of Blue Grass for fifth on the all-time Deery Series career wins list.

The ninth event of the 31st annual Deery Series is next Tuesday, June 13 at West Liberty Race­way.

The Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds is on the same card.
