Red River Tour checkers fly for Davis at Heart O’ Texas

By Jackson Braun WACO, Texas (May 26) – A late-race pass by Cory Davis of teammate Chris Elliott extended the streak of new winners on the Lone Star Super Gas IMCA Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products Sunday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. Elliott got the lead on the initial start, with Cody Tidwell and then Chris Morris running in second. With five laps remaining in the 25-lap contest, Morris took his shot in turn four. He made contact with the inside of Elliott’s machine and spun himself out, ending a strong run. After a few restarts, Elliott shot back out to the lead, with Davis in pursuit. The final restart occurred with three laps to go. Bragg gets 100th IMCA win at opener for Red River Tour

By Jackson Braun KENNEDALE, Texas (May 25) – Career win number 100 for Chris Bragg came on the big stage of opening night of the Lone Star Super Gas IMCA Red River Modified Tour presented by Smiley’s Racing Products. Bragg led all 25 laps of a main event that ran caution-free Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park, negotiating lapped traffic while holding off Tyler Stevens and Chris Morris. Bragg became the 55th driver in division history to reach the 100-win mark with the $1,500 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. “This is definitely a career highlight. I’ve qualified at Super Nationals a couple times and I’ve been elected to the All-Star race. To do this is pretty cool, too,” he said. “It’s been a lot of work but it’s been a lot of fun. As a family, we’ve enjoyed racing for 25 years. 2019 IMCA Red River Modified Tour set to start this weekend, May 25-31

By Jackson Braun KENNEDALE, Texas – Pre-registration has officially closed for the 2019 edition of the IMCA Red River Modified Tour. If the quality of racing from last year is any indication, everyone is in for a treat during the tour’s second running. Eighty-one IMCA Modifieds have registered, along with 62 Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods and 19 IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Inaugural champion Chris Elliott from Abilene looks to defend his Modified crown as the stacked field of racers will try to figure out how to put together a championship run. IMCA Modifieds will compete for a $1,500 prize every night, with an entry into the feature worth a $100 payday. Winners of these events will all be qualifiers for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Deery Series is Quad City Speedway bound for Memorial Weekend show

EAST MOLINE, Ill. – A Memorial Weekend date takes the Deery Brothers Summer Series to Quad City Speedway. IMCA Late Models run for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start their Sunday, May 26 main event at East Moline. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:15 with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $8 for seniors and students ages 6-12, and free for five and under. Pit passes are $35. Sunday’s event will be the 492nd in series history, with 21 of those previous races held at East Moline. Sports Park Raceway postponed, Benton County Speedway to host Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights opener

FORT DODGE, Iowa (May 21) – Rain has been declared the winner of tonight’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour event at Sports Park Raceway. The Fort Dodge speedplant was to host opening night for the 10th annual tour for IMCA Modifieds Tuesday evening. IMCA and track officials hope to reschedule that race for later this summer. The tour now gets underway on Memorial Day with a $1,500 to win, minimum $150 to start show at Benton County Speedway in Vinton. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods complete the Monday, May 27 program, to be broadcast by IMCA.TV. Thornton motors to Durbin Memorial checkers

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 15) – There was no catching Ricky Thornton Jr. in the race to the $1,000 IMCA Modified checkers Wednesday at Stuart Speedway’s inaugural Jake Durbin Memorial. Thornton, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, and Jesse Dennis drew the front row starting spots and it was Thornton jumping out to the early lead. Kyle Brown and Nick Roberts battled for second with Brown holding it down for the first six laps. Roberts got past Brown on lap seven, just before a caution flew. Two more quick yellows on laps 12 and 13 allowed Hunter Marriott to get past Brown and Roberts and on Thornton’s bumper. That was as close as anyone was coming on this night, however, as Thornton roared off into the sunset to take the win. Marriott finished second with Dennis third. Four sections of aluminum bleachers will be put in place and the leader board relocated to the front stretch before Sports Park Raceway rolls out the red carpet for opening night of the Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour. Wild West IMCA Modified Tour returns; Alvarado wins 99th event, DeVilbiss 100th

AZTEC, N.M. (May 3-4) – The opening weekend of the Wild West IMCA Modified Tour was guaranteed to be one for the history book, and two drivers that already had their name written all over that volume added new chapters. Ricky Alvarado, a three-time champion during the tour’s inaugural 2007-2014 run, extended his WWMT career wins best total to 32 with the Friday checkers at Aztec Speedway. And Zane DeVilbiss, the 2010 champion, earned his career 13th victory in the 100th event in tour history Saturday at the New Mexico speedplant. Both events paid $1,000 to win. DeVilbiss and Justen Yeager completed Friday’s top three while Alvarado was runner-up and Yeager third again on Saturday. Night of firsts precedes 100th event for IMCA Wild West Modified Tour

AZTEC, N.M. – After a night of firsts, IMCA’s Wild West Modified Tour celebrates a milestone 100th event on night two of its season-opening doubleheader at Aztec Speedway. First-ever tour events for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods along with the first tour event for Modifieds since 2014 will be held Friday, May 3. The same three divisions are on the Saturday, May 4 card. That evening’s Modified feature will be the 100th in the history of the tour, which debuted in 2007 for its initial eight-year run. Gemmill becomes three-time Stampede king with latest Dodge City IMCA Modified victory

(April 27) – Brendon Gemmill pocketed $1,000 by racing to victory lane in Saturday night’s seventh annual IMCA Modified Stampede atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park. Gemmill fought off a late bid from Tanner Black to win the 25-lapper and earn a spot on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Gemmill had briefly surrendered the point to Black on the 17th round before slipping away in the final circuits for his career third Modified Stampede triumph. Starting from the front row outside, Gemmill outgunned pole starter Nick Link with Black making his way from fourth into second after a lap three caution. Following the race’s second and final caution with eight laps in the books, Black tried to keep pace with Gemmill in the ensuing rounds.
