Reay rules Tri-City, Eastern IMCA Allstars Modifieds

PORTLAND, Mich. (June 23) – After winning $2,000 on Friday night, Jeffrey Reay came up just three dollars short of matching that career-topping total in the second installment of the Eastern IMCA Allstars the following Wednesday. Reay led all 30 laps of the June 18 IMCA Modified feature at Tri-City Motor Speedway. He outran defending Dirt Works Eastern Region champion Mitchell Hunt and former regional king A.J. Ward to the $1,997 checkers on June 23 at Thunderbird Raceway. “We’ve got some tough guys we run against,” said Reay, one of 28 entries at Auburn, one of 37 at Muskegon and already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “We’re going to keep taking the wins as we get them and not get a big head on us.”  He’d started outside pole at Tri-City and dueled with Ward before winning ahead of Brenten DeYoung. Reay motored from fourth starting and caught Kody Johnson for the front spot en route to his fourth win of the season at Thunderbird.  “It was fun. It was a fun track,” [Read More]

Hoosier product bulletin for grooving IMCA tires

LAKEVILLE, Ind. (June 23) – With the recent announcement of the IMCA rules modification to allow grooving on the IMCA G60 tire, we felt it was important to release some guidelines for this process so drivers can avoid common mistakes and get the most benefit from this new rule.  The full intent of this rules modification was to potentially help customers get extra life from their IMCA G60’s. Grooving can be a useful tool in recreating the factory edge to the block and reducing block stiffness on a used tire, so its performance more closely matches a new tire.  We would NOT recommend grooving brand new tires. New tires are already as aggressive as a tire will ever be, so grooving them will only reduce the block stiffness and INCREASE tire wear on a new tire without dramatically assisting performance.  We would recommend that after the 2nd night of racing on an IMCA G60, customers should recut the factory groove lines with a #3 width grooving blade. Cut each block individually for best results as the [Read More]

Looft keeps plugging for career best payday at IMCA MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals

BRITT, Iowa (June 22) – The driver with the most Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature wins plugged his way to his biggest win Tuesday night at Hancock County Speedway. Matt Looft led all 30 laps of the MaxYield Seed SportMod Nationals from his outside row one start, outrunning Colby Fett following a late restart to take the $2,500 checkers.  “That was the highest paying win I’ve ever had so that was pretty cool,” Looft said following career win number 175 in the division. “I finally got a good draw. I wasn’t quite sure where I needed to be but I kept plugging along in the same line.” Running the top line in the first set of turns and the bottom groove in the second, Looft stayed in front following a couple key early restarts, first denying Jake Sachau then keeping Jared Boumeester in check.  Fett passed four cars in making a big move to third and got to second on the restart with five laps left. He challenged the rest of the way but could [Read More]

IMCA amends G-60 tire rule effective June 23

VINTON, Iowa – Due to nation-wide supply shortages, officials at the International Motor Contest Association have announced they will amend existing tire rules in all divisions mandating use of the IMCA stamped Hoosier G-60 tire. Effective Wednesday, June 23, drivers in those divisions will be allowed to groove Hoosier G-60 tires for use at all IMCA sanctioned events. “Product shortages across the racing industry are widespread,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “This situation is well outside of IMCA’s control. We want to provide our racers every opportunity to do what they feel is necessary to reduce consumption or extend the life of their tires. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.” At this time, the tire amendment does not apply to any division where use of the stamped G-60 is not required. Root also noted that any decision on tire rules for the Sprint Cars would be made at the discretion of RaceSaver’s Roger Hadan.

ROCK SPRINGS, Wy. (June 18-19) – Chase Hansen found the secret to a good draw and Regan Tafoya finally found his way to victory lane when the IMCA Pitt Stop Motorsports Wild West Tour made its annual visit to Sweetwater Speedway.  Hansen simply opted to take the last pill left and won Friday’s IMCA Modified feature after being rewarded with the pole start. The tour ironman, Hansen’s fifth career checkers came in his 120th consecutive start. Haudenshild Tribute IMCA Modified win is ‘something special’ for DeBenedetti

By Stephanie Deatherage  WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 12) – An IMCA Modified driver who’s won a lot of big races in his career won one he described as “something special” Saturday night. Jon DeBenedetti was in and out of the lead before taking the $2,000 checkers at Southern Oregon Speedway’s eighth annual Roger Haudenshild Tribute. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier had put an engine purchased out of a car that Haudenshild had sponsored into his own ride just the day before.  “We put it in Friday and won with it on Saturday. That was pretty cool,” DeBenedetti said. “I told (the previous owner) I’d buy it and win with it and that’s exactly what I did.” He’d started third in the 30-lapper and fell back to fifth before running the inside line back to second, behind Zach Fettinger. DeBenedetti’s first pass to the front was negated by caution but he moved ahead following the next restart, on lap 13.  Californian Darrell Hughes II saw his bold move rewarded with the front spot [Read More]

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (June 12) – Another IMCA Modified feature win at another North Dakota track put another $2,222 in Kollin Hibdon’s racing account Saturday night.  Hibdon led all 25 laps of Jamestown Speedway’s second annual Don Gumke Racers’ Memorial, leading the way through lapped traffic the first 21 circuits and then outrunning teammate Casey Arneson after a caution with four laps left. “I’ve had the chance to get into the Arneson program and come to some nice, slick tracks that I’ve never been to before,” said the 17-year-old from Nevada, who’d taken the win and $5,000 top prize at last weekend’s 100-lap Iron Man special at Dacotah Speedway. “I’ve had a lot of really good mentors in my very few years of racing and have been in the lucky position of being able to pick myself up a couple (wins). I’m lovin’ it.”  Rusty Kollman, Dave Shipley and Crist Pittenger completed the top five.  Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Hibdon won both his qualifying heats and started outside defending race winner Austin [Read More]
