Drive For 5 opener goes to Andy Eckrich

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 28, 2023) – Mother Nature finally gave Lee County Speedway a beautiful night for racing and Andy Eckrich made the most of evening, winning the 25-lap Iowa Corner Growers Association Drive For 5 qualifying feature for IMCA Sunoco Late Models.  Eckrich took advantage of his front row draw to jump out into the lead on lap one over Sam Halstead and C.J. Horn. While Halstead, Denny Woodworth and Horn battled for the runner-up spot, Eckrich started to pull away. But when Dekota Job spun on lap 12 to bring out the caution, it brought the field back to Eckrich’s back bumper. On the restart Job spun in turn four to bring the yellow light back on, ending his night. The following restart saw Woodworth get up beside Eckrich for the top spot as the two raced side-by-side. Nezworski tops IMCA Late Models as Maquoketa Speedway opens season 

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 29, 2023) – The 2023 racing season got underway on Saturday night under cold and blustery conditions. A hearty group of race fans saw an outstanding field of 139 race car drivers take part in the Kinion Classic Cars season opener at the Maquoketa Speedway.   The opening night featured the return of the IMCA Sunoco Late Models to the ¼-mile oval for weekly racing. Nineteen Late Models were on hand and their 25-lap main event was the headliner of the night. Veteran racer Andy Nezworski was fortunate enough to draw the pole for the Kinion Classic Cars main event. Nezworski quickly established himself as the man to beat and led the main flag to flag despite several challenges by pesky Matt Ryan. IMCA point season begins at Off Road Speedway

In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Colby Langenberg took full advantage of his starting position on the pole to lead all 15 laps and lead by a significant margin during the final seven laps for the win. Jonathan Jensen took his shot at getting by Langenberg for eight laps, before Cameron Meyer slipped past in turn three and took his turn at pursuing Langenberg for the final five laps. Meyer finished second despite checking up his car coming out of turn four for safety reasons, while Jensen took third. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks ran 18 laps with three cautions before Tanner Uehling secured the win. Uehling took the lead following the restart after the first caution, getting by early leader Mark Arduser, but had to battle various challengers following the next two restarts. Maquoketa Speedway set to open Saturday

By Jerry Mackey  MAQUOKETA, Iowa (April 26, 2023) – The 2023 racing season is set to get underway at Maquoketa Speedway this Saturday, April 29 with the running of the Kinion Classic Cars season opener. Maquoketa Speedway welcomes the return of the Sunoco Late Model division as part of the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program.  Late Models will headline the program this Saturday with hot laps taking to the action-packed quarter-mile dirt track at 6 p.m. Maquoketa Speedway is located on the Jackson County Fairgrounds in Maquoketa.

IMCA Late Models Drive For 5 at Lee County Speedway

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 24, 2023) – IMCA Sunoco Late Model drivers will once again Drive For Five at Pepsi Lee County Speedway.  Seven qualifying features are scheduled for the Late Models, with $5,000 paid to win the main event Friday, Aug. 25.  Drivers must compete at a minimum of five qualifying features to be eligible for the $5,000 winner’s share in the finale.  All seven qualifiers will pay a minimum of $1,000 to win. Drive For Five dates are Fridays April 28, May 12, May 26, June 9, June 23 and Aug. 4. One qualifier will be held on Saturday, July 22. Rain date for the $5,000 to win show is Saturday, Sept. 9. Draw/redraw will be used for each qualifying night with two passing point heat races used for the finale. Two track provisionals will be given for the finale feature.
