  EUNICE, N.M. (May 27-28) – Michael Sheen had to give serious thought to describing his racing weekend at Cardinal Speedway. The winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Cardinal’s eighth annual Kelly Sheen Memorial, held in honor of his father, eventually got around to using the words “awesome” – twice – and “amazing.” “I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. We ended up getting lucky and pulled it off,” said Sheen, who won the Saturday qualifier to earn the Sunday pole start and then led all 25 laps of the main event. “There were a whole bunch of guys behind me who could have won this race.” The victory was good for $2,500 and Sheen, like a number of other drivers racing at Eunice over the holiday weekend donated his share of the purse to the scholarship fund established in his father’s name. West Liberty Raceway hosts Saturday IMCA Late Model special

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – Following two consecutive weeks of rainouts, West Liberty Raceway is set to host the Ideal Ready Mix Tri-Track Challenge. Winner of the Saturday, June 3 IMCA Late Model feature will walk away with a cool $2,000. The night’s racing action will also be the Jennifer Brauns Massey Memorial. Jennifer lost her bat­tle with cancer this past December, Jennifer’s brother Jon Brauns and nephew Jonathan are dedicat­ing this racing season to her memory and are racing to create awareness of ovarian can­cer. In addition to the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mach-1 Sport Compacts will all be in action. During Intermission, kids in attendance will take part in the world’s largest candy scramble. The West Liberty Raceway half-mile clay track is located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds. Farley, Dubuque set for IMCA Late Model specials 

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa – Officials of Farley Speedway Promotions have announced that both Farley Speedway and Dubuque Speedway will host IMCA Late Model specials this coming weekend, Friday, June 2 and Sunday, June 4. Tri-Track Late Model racing events sponsored by Ideal Ready Mix will highlight the racing action this weekend. Late Model drivers will battle for the winner’s prize money of $2,000. In addition to the high-powered Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will race both Friday and Sunday. Farley Speedway will host racing on Friday, June 2 with hot laps taking to the Palace of Speed at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Families battle for IMCA Modified crown at Perris

PERRIS, Calif. – When it comes to families in racing one must look no farther than the IMCA Modi­fieds when they return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, June 3. Four of the top five places in the championship standings are occupied by fathers and their racing chil­dren and all are expected to be in action Saturday, when spectator gates open at 5 p.m. and the first race will be at 7 p.m. Billy Wormsbecker is the IMCA point leader heading into round four at Perris. However, if he feels some families may stick together and gang up on him, it is perfectly understandable. IMCA rookie of the year awards new from Ricochet 

BRUSH, Colo. – Awards from Ricochet Race Components are new this season for rookies of the year in two IMCA divisions. Top first-year drivers in each of the five regions for IMCA Modifieds and in national standings for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods all receive sets of three shock guard covers. The Brush, Colo., company, a four-year IMCA sponsor, again gives the same awards package to Modified regional champions, the national Northern SportMod champions, and to feature winners and champions in the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Modified Tour and the Arnold Motor Sup­ply Hawkeye Dirt Tour. Meyer wins fourth straight at Off Road

(May 27) – With the biggest crowd ever at Off Road Speedway, an estimated 1,000 spectators, Ramsey Meyer extended his local victory string to four wins in four tries Satur­day in the Mach-1 Sport Compact division. After taking the lead three laps into the 15-lap race, Nate DeSive won his first local IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the season. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature ended with its fourth different winner in four nights of racing as Jason Wilkinson edged Chad Bruns in a green, white, checkered finish for his first Norfolk win of the year. Colby Langenberg bounced back from a third-place finish last week to win the Karl Chevrolet North­ern SportMod feature, getting to the front to lead the last eight laps of the 15-lap race.

Clay Sellard starts Dodge City streak 

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 28) – Clay Sellard started his own IMCA Modified winning streak Sunday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Sellard battled into the lead on the ninth of 20 rounds and led the rest of the way to put a stop to Cole Traugott’s recent run of domination. While Tracy Link paced the early rounds, Sellard worked forward from 12th on the heels of Mike Lunow, who started one row further up.  The duo reached second and third, respectively, behind Link within a half dozen circuits before charging by on the ninth round with Sellard taking command. Meanwhile, Traugott was working his way through the field from 13th after winning the “B” Main as the driver of the No. 9 was searching for his ninth win in his last nine visits to DCRP. Carter tops Marshalltown Modified main 

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 26) – Sixth row starting Cayden Carter was the IMCA Modified winner Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Jenae Gustin led the troops from the topside of the track. Carter capitalized on Gustin’s slight slip when her right rear dropped over the cushion. He quickly dove under to take over the top spot. Carter held that lead to the checkers.  Gustin had to be content with second.  Joel Rust took third, Todd Shute started 1tth and finished fourth, and Adam Larson was fifth. Todd Cooney’s last-corner pass put him in victory lane following the IMCA Late Model feature and Da­mon Murty paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Doug Smith led from the fifth lap to the end of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature and Shannon Anderson raced from the sixth row, going four-wide at one point, en route to another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory.
