Hoskinson charges to Off Road Hobby Stock checkers

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (June 24) – Jeremy Hoskinson raced from the eighth row starting to win Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature at Off Road Speedway. Hoskinson passed front-runner Tracy Buck with five laps left and held off Cameron Wilkinson and Sal Hernandez to join Austin Brauner as the only drivers with two wins in the competitive division. Wilkinson grabbed second for a sixth top five finish with Hernandez taking third place. Jason Wilkinson added a third win, his second in a row, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature with son Kyle earning second ahead of Shawn Primrose who interrupted a potential one-two-three Wilkinsons finish by edging Jason’s father Dean for third place. July 1 is deadline for rookie application

VINTON, Iowa – Eligible IMCA drivers who have yet to do so have until this Saturday, July 1 to complete and submit their rookie of the year application. First-year competitors can call Director of Membership and Points Virginia Lindsey at the home office (319 472-2201) to sign up. Rookie application forms are also published in the Inside IMCA newsletter and can be mailed to IMCA at 1800 West D Street in Vinton, Iowa, 52349. Those applications must be postmarked on or before July 1.

Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour travels to Hancock County for June 27 salute to veterans

BRITT, Iowa (June 22) – Hancock County Speedway salutes those who have served our country when the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour comes to Britt next Tuesday, June 27. IMCA Modifieds race for $3,000 to win in the fourth installment of the 2017 tour. The Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier is sponsored by Mike and Barb Schroeder. Completing the busy race night program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars running for $2,500 to win, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $2,000 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,800 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $400 to win. Rice gets IMCA RaceSaver pavement win at Shenandoah Speedway

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 24) – ‘Bullet’ Bill Rice would tell anybody who would listen he didn’t know if he could put it all together and win a pavement race. But after Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event at Shenandoah Speedway, Rice could tell about getting the lead early and then holding off all challengers for his first big IMCA RaceSaver win. Rice and Mike Keeton paced the field to green and they stayed virtually side-by-side for five laps until Rice inched ahead. The battle was on up front as Rice and Keeton were joined by Ryan Price and Jerald Harris. The leader made sure he hit his marks and kept the car where it was happy as the cars behind were moving all over to find a way by. Dotson collects Sunday checkers at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 25) – Another first-time tour winner made his way to victory lane following Sunday’s Wild West Modified Shootout main event at Cottage Grove Speedway. Ethan Dotson took the $1,000 checkers at an event contested by 45 drivers from Oregon, California, Nevada, Montana and Colorado, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. Collen Winebarger paced the field early. Several cautions kept the race close and Winebarger was challenged past midway. The leader had a close call late in the race. While navigating lapped traffic, he made contact with a slower car and nearly lost the lead before the yellow flag came out for separate incident. Not too long after the restart, he was passed on the inside by Dotson. The California charger made the maneuver on lap 31 and took off after that. Luellen made an early charge to the front from the fourth row and won handily ahead of Josh Gilman and Randy Havlik. Marcus Fagan paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Jamie Schirm prevailed in an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event that ended green, white, checkers following a late caution. Chase Rudolf ran out of laps in his pursuit of frontrunner Austin Luellen in the Karl Chevrolet Nortern SportMod main and John Gill led from lap eight to the finish of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature.

Clear sailing for Day in Sprint Series of Oklahoma at Ardmore

By David Smith Jr. ARDMORE, Okla. (June 23) – Michael Day took the lead at the start and never looked back in topping the Sprint Series of Oklahoma feature Friday night at South Oklahoma Speedway. Day started on the pole for the 20-lap feature IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event, presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, and led wire-to-wire to capture his first career SSO victory. Third-starting Michelle Melton, who picked up her one and only series victory in Ardmore last year, held off repeated challenges from defending national and series champion Andy Shouse to finish second. Lauer conquers Southern Oregon Wild West Shootout feature

By Ben Deatherage WHITE CITY, Ore. (June 24) – Danny Lauer scorched the Wild West Modified Shootout field on a scorching Saturday night at Southern Oregon Speedway. Lauer’s $1,000 IMCA Modified win came on a day when the mercury hit 100 and then some. The new Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier won his career-first Shootout feature after a disappointing 17th place outing in the opener the night before at Yreka. Ethan Dotson took control right off the bat at White City but was overtaken on the fifth circuit by fellow Californian Lauer. Lauer built comfortable leads that were erased by cautions. Despite the restarts, Lauer held on the rest of the distance to become the 16th different main event winner in the history of the Wild West Modified Shootout. Trenchard wins Wild One at Yreka

(June 23) – Siskiyou Motor Speedway hosted opening night of the Wild West Modified Shootout for the first time and Nick Trenchard was on top of his game from start to finish of the Friday night feature. Trenchard was the $1,000 IMCA Modified feature winner in a lidlifter contested by 33 entries from California, Oregon, Nevada and Colorado. He grabbed the initial lead after the first two attempts to start the race resulted in cautions. The Klamath Falls, Ore., chauffeur stayed sharp and stayed in front of his challengers following every restart. Kellen Chadwick mounted a late race-charge toward the front. Chadwick got close to the leader in traffic only for another yellow to come out. On the ensuing restart Chadwick went off the top of the backstretch and flipped.
