Marriott, Green, Nordman win big at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 3) – Six-foot-tall trophies and $1,000 checks went to three IMCA winners at Kossuth County Speedway’s county fair show Thursday night. Hunter Marriott made his first appearance at Algona and that was bad news for the other 20 IMCA Modified drivers. Marriott built the comfortable lead each time and cruised to the easy Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory. Todd Shute was a distant second and Tim Ward placed third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars had the most exciting race of the night as Bruce Wickman grabbed the early lead while Jake Masters stayed right on his bumper. Derek Green joined in the battle in lap number five as Chad Palmer made it a four-car breakaway for the lead one lap later. Reception in victory lane convinces Alvarado his 100th win was “a big deal”

DELTA, Colo. – Ricky Alvarado didn’t realize the magnitude of his career 100th IMCA Modified win until he saw the reception waiting for him in victory lane. Alvarado collected the landmark checkers on July 29 at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway. He’d been runner-up the night before at Cortez to Aaron Spangler, the only other Colorado driver to reach 100 wins in the division. “There were a lot of people who were all about this win. After I pulled into victory lane and saw their emotions, I realized what a big deal it was,” said Alvarado, from Delta. “None of us ever dreamed we’d pull this off. PASS pre-registration passes 40 for Port Royal show

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – Pre-registration for race number five of the Beer Hill Cup Series has topped 40 as IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car teams look forward to a beautiful Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway. Aug. 5 is   Slivinski Law Office Salute to the Military/Fan Appreciation Night at Port Royal and adult general admission is $10 for the evening race program. All veterans and active military personnel with proper ID receive free grandstand admission Saturday night and PASS American flag decals will be available to these honored guests.   Student admission is $7. Beer Hill Cup shirts for sale and a number of shirts will be given away during the program. Jake Waters will be the guest announcer and have some special announcements of upcoming events for the series.

Three more former race winners, three first-time starters join Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational field

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 4) – Three more former race winners, along with a trio of first-time honorees are among the second group of drivers elected to start the upcoming Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Jay Noteboom (2005 and 2008), Chris Abelson (2011) and Todd Shute (2013) return to the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s with All-Star victories on their resumes. Steven Bowers Jr., Clay Money and Jeremy Payne make their first All-Star starts on Friday, Sept. 8 at Boone Speedway. Three All-Stars from each of the five IMCA Modified regions, were elected in the first round of voting. The next 13 All-Stars were elected through at-large balloting from the 116 remaining candidates. Also advancing from the second round to the All-Star starting field are Kyle Brown, Corey Dripps, Darin Duffy, Mike Jergens, Jeff Taylor, Tim Ward and Jason Wolla. BRITT, Iowa – The stars of the IMCA Modified division will shine during a rich three nights of racing at Hancock County Speedway. The Thursday, Aug. 10 Night of 1,000 Stars at Britt pays a guaranteed $3,500 to win, plus a bonus of $1,000 to the leader at halfway and another $1,000 if they have perfect attendance this season at Britt. Mackenthun regains lead late for $1,500 win at Sibley County Fair Stock special

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 2) – A driver who’s enjoyed his share of success and then some at Arlington Raceway was back in victory lane following Wednesday’s Sibley County Fair IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Shootout. Nine-time track champion Dan Mackenthun regained the lead from Matt Speckman with two laps left and stayed in front to the $1,500 checkers. Mackenthun had taken the early lead ahead of Jeff Holstein, who stayed with him for several laps before getting too high in the second set of turns and losing several positions. Derek Green, who had enjoyed a big payday of his own Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway, started seventh and moved up quickly to challenge Mackenthun. The two pulled away from the rest of the field and had their own race, trading the top spot several times. By lap 20, Green was in front and had a little distance on Mackenthun. By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 2) – Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway was Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Night and the night saw returning visitors to victory lane Cayden Carter grabbed the lead early and pulled away to his fifth Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature win of 2017. Nathan Wood was the third and final different leader in the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car main, earning his fourth local checkers of the season. Shannon Anderson won for the 12th time in as many starts in the KBOE Radio/Mahaska Bottling IMCA Hobby Stocks while Curtis Van Der Wal’s Oskaloosa True Value IMCA Northern SportMod victory was his 10th win of the season at Osky and seventh in a row. Trent Orwig notched Kelli Steil State Farm IMCA Sport Compact win number two on the season.

IMCA RaceSaver Sprints new to Front Row Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – IMCA RaceRaver Sprint Cars have been added to the lineup at the Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Monday, Aug. 7. The feature will pay $750 to win, and in Front Row Challenge fashion there will be more contingencies for heat and feature winners. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. The 410 winner of this year’s Front Row Challenge will again bank $20,000, one of the highest one-day payouts in the country. IMCA Harris Clash set for Aug. 8 at Hamilton County Speedway

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – Hamilton County Speedway plays host to the 26th annual Harris Clash on Tuesday, Aug. 8 when IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods travel to Webster City. The 25-lap Modified main event pays $2,000 to win, a minimum of $250 to start and is a qualifier for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Twenty-five cars start the Modified main. Tow money is $75. A 10-lap dash for cash, open to Modified winners on designated nights at 10 area tracks, returns to the Clash program and pays $500 to win and a minimum of $100 to take the green flag.
