$5,000 is top IMCA Modified prize at RPM Fall Nationals

HAYS, Kan. – RPM Speedway wraps up 2017 with one of the richest post-season events on the IMCA schedule, the Fall Nationals fueled by Casey’s.

IMCA Modifieds race for $5,000 to win and a minimum of $400 to start their main event at the 11^th annual event, scheduled Oct. 5-7 at Hays.

That feature is a qualifying event for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Also on the card this weekend are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars racing for $3,000 to win and $250 to start, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $2,000 and $175 to start, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $1,500 and $175 to start, and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $300 and $50 to start.

Registration fee and non-qualifier pay is $150 for Modifieds, $100 for Stocks and $75 for SportMods and Hobby Stocks. Tow money for Sport Compacts is $25.

A test and tune session for all divisions and the Sport Compact program are on Thursday, Oct. 5.

Grandstand admission is free on Thursday. Adults pay $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday; children are $5 both days. Pit passes are $25 on Thursday and $30 on Friday and Saturday.

Racing starts at 6 p.m. each night. RACEceivers are required.

Grabouski gets bookend hardware at Fall Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 6) – Jordan Grabouski came home from Hays with a bookend Fall Nationals trophy. Grabouski led all 40 laps of Saturday’s IMCA Modified main event at RPM Speedway. The victory was good for $5,000 and hardware to complement the trophy he got at the 2011 event. “I had a five second lead at one point so we definitely had a good car,” said Grabouski, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “It’s hard to know how much you’re leading by, especially when you’re in lapped traffic. There was a restart with six laps to go and I was able to pull away a bit after that.” He’s had mixed luck at RPM in the past – a late flat tire took him out of contention at last year’s Fall Nationals – but Grabouski won both his heat and qualifying feature on Friday night. Abelson gets 5,000 reasons to remember his first IMCA Modified Fall Nationals feature win

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 7) – If he’s remembering right, Chris Abelson had never won a race before Saturday at RPM Speedway. There are 5,000 reasons why he won’t forget his first IMCA Modified main event win at Hays. Abelson led all 40 laps of the Fall Nationals fueled by Casey’s feature, taking the $5,000 checkers ahead of Tyler Frye. After Friday’s program was lost to inclement weather, Abelson won his heat and topped the second qualifying feature Saturday afternoon to start on the outside of the front row in the main event that evening. “For the amount of rain they’d gotten, the track wasn’t that rough,” said Abelson. “I could run top, middle, bottom. Jake Smith Holds On to Earn SportMod Glory at Winter Nationals

This win marked Smith’s first triumph during the Winter Nationals, and he faced a challenging path to victory lane. The twenty-lap finale began with North Dakota’s Gabe Deschamp surging to the front from the initial start. Thompson Outduels Richards to Win Night Three of Winter Nationals

The twenty-lap race began with Thompson leading, closely followed by Dillon Richards in second place. The non-stop feature saw the top two drivers pull away from the rest of the field, racing around the track bumper-to-bumper at time. As the race approached its final five laps, lapped traffic became a critical factor. Tension escalated when Richards pulled out of line and dove under Thompson as they approached the white flag. Heinrich Captures Stock Car Winter Nationals Glory with Last Lap Pass

The veteran driver from Fargo, North Dakota, who started in third position, earned his first career Winter Nationals feature victory. The 25-lap contest kicked off with Heinrich outpacing Gary Pesicka to lead the initial lap. From there, the two drivers engaged in a thrilling cat-and-mouse battle on the 3/8-mile clay oval. Pesicka’s patience paid off when he finally passed Heinrich on the eleventh lap. However, Heinrich refused to let him pull away and regained the lead with ten laps remaining.
